View 1 RepliesI am noticing a weird behavioral on some pages with flash file that loads XML in IE7 or IE8. If the browser is visible, the XML loads right after the flash. If the browser is minimized, while the load xml happens, it takes like 500 - 900 ms to load the XML. The same issue if its loading an image, say JPG.

I work on a project where FMS will be used as the main streaming server. We are going to use p2p/multicast technology which is available in FMS. My first question is : What are the approximate hardware requirements for such a server ? REMARK : this server will be connected to a switch with 1G/bits ports. I want to build a silverlight web application that could installed on a user's computer. So any hosting requirements would be subject to whatever configuration the user has. What are there requirements to host a silverlight application? I need the same question answered for Flash and WPF.
Is it required that the .Net framework (or whatever Flash uses in that case) be installed on the machine? Obviously some webserver must be installed, what are the restrictions on the webserver for these three technologies?
I have exported a flash file as exe which works fine on my machine but when it is delivered to the client it does not work. Does a exe file require that the machine have a browser flash environment. I that everthing was packages in the exe.

View 1 RepliesI got a textfile who i am reading on a serverside script and passing it as a script to my client side as3 code. The problem is that i am using characters like ä,ö,ü,ß and this isn't well displayed. I tried System.useCodePage but the compiler complains about : 1120: Access of undefined property 'System'. It doesnt matter if I tried this on the first line of the 'Action' in the first scene or in the first line of the first .as file i am loading. (btw i am only working with .as file and not in the timeline). When i am importing flash.System.* the compiler complains he dont know useCodePage.

I need a file upload component that has a progress bar and "upload" button next to it (= standalone functionality, no connection to the submit event of a surrounding form).
It should be either Flash or Prototype based. No JQuery or Moo, as the app runs with prototype.
If server-side scripting is needed, it must be PHP. No Perl, no ASP.
On successful upload, I need a custom Javascript function triggered. (I need to update a file list that is displayed on the same page.)
The possibility of filtering file names before upload (no Umlauts, spaces..) would be a plus.

Is it possible to make this a mask? The system contains one movieclip of a circle called ball, also a class called ball and a class called particle. I want the particle system movieclips to display an image...I'm sure this is possible...just have not been able to find a way. I have a string in XML format and I want to use this string as flex XML type as following : This is my string :

I cant pass this to an API, it complains that this is string and it expects an XML type. How can i convert this string to XML with minimum effort, ie: without iterating the string and the nodes etc. Is there such method as : var data:XML = new XML(str:String);

There's Number.MIN_VALUE, but, as the name implies, that's for Number, not for int.

Is there a minimum amount of segments (or something that I'm not doing) that need to be drawn in order to close a polygon shape created with the pen tool. I've found in many instances I seem to be closing the polygon and yet when I go to fill the object it won't fill. I then discover that the beginning and end points are not "joined" together (as in Illustrator).

I have created a spark ButtonBar which is dynamically populated with XML and skinned to look like a standard TabBar. When I used the TabBar in Flex 3, the width of each Tab would shrink or grow to the size of the Label, plus a little padding either side. When using the spark ButtonBar in Flex 4, I find that no matter how short the label (even an empty string), the Buttons will be at least 70 pixels wide, and will expand for longer labels. I have tried setting the minWidth to 20 in various places, including on my ButtonBarButton skin, but this has no effect.

I do however have a problem.. I want the site (SWF) to scale according to browser size.But, I want to implement a maximum and minimum width and height.
I dont want it to scale so that it is bigger than my stage size (1365px x 845px), and I dont want it to scale so that it can be smaller than for instance (800px x 600x). And I also want the SWF to be centered at all times.

You'll notice that the pictures will shrink, but won't scale above their obvious 100% size. I tried looking at the page source, but I didnt understand much. Looks like they have used Actionscript for the resizing/aligning.
I'm building a photographer's gallery website and I need it to resize to fit in browser window. So far so easy...What I would really like to achieve is a maximum and minimum size that the gallery will go to.
So, if the images I am using are 1400x1000 (for example) when this size is reached by the user expanding the browser window i don't want the gallery to expand any more, just sit in the middle of the page.
Similarly I don't want the gallery to go below say 800x600... how to set a max/min?
