View 2 RepliesHowever as a programmer it's kind of important that I learn the language. Now, I know about myself that I won't learn anything if I read guides or try to learn the functions. I need tutorials to learn, in my opinion the best way to learn is to actually make stuff.So I was wondering, can anyone point me to a few tutorials for beginners?
View 2 RepliesI am struggling with what seems to be a simple problem. Searched and can't find the answer, it seems. I have an FLA I said I'd edit for a friend... just a few simple text edits. However, when I go to publish the movie, it makes a call to an external "State Manager" that it can't find, so the movie loops endlessly. Here is the actionscript: Code: Select allimport com.exanimo.managers.StateManager;
So I'm guessing it's looking find that at that domain. I guess that's the doing of the original programmer. However, I have noticed that there is a StateManager.js file on the webserver in the same directory where the SWF resides. Have I received an old FLA that pointed externally instead of to the local js manager? How can I change the syntax so that it finds the state manager locally?
I was trying to follow the photo gallery instructions in Flash MX from this site. I was fine until I got to the line that said... "now copy and paste this code into the actions dialog box." Well, when I opened the action box...where/how do you paste this action. I opened the action box, then clicked movie control, but I do not see a line to add the code. [URL]..
View 1 RepliesI have a contact us form (I got with a pre built template)However when posting form data to PHP all the fields in the form show as undefined.When I run the file with trace mode on [code]I have ensured my input text has an instance name (ss)I have tried setting a var for ss This allows me to set the data ok but it is still undefined when I try to load it.I have added a keyframe to this frame as this is on frame 4 of a 4 page/frame timeline.
View 1 RepliesI would like to attempt to accomplish the following using Flash:I have a graphic representation of an LCD screen. The screen represents a display used to control a machine. Think of it as a kind of calculator. There are numeric keypads (1 - 0) as well as "enter" and "cancel" and "up" and "down" arrows.The LCD screen is two lines by 20 characters.First; I want to display in the two lines the data that would be displayed on the actual device. I have 160 lines of data in an ascii text file.I want to be able to "import" the ascii text file into the two line display, and be able to "scroll" up and down using the arrow buttons. What want to accomplish is that if the data changes,I can simply update the text file that is called. I saw a similar flash application, but it used a slider thing. I don't want a slider. I want to be able to scroll lines of text into and out the two line display. That is the first part, anyway. The second part will be to be able to change the displayed number values with the number keypad and update the text file with the data. But for now, just to get the text file to display and buttons to make it scroll.
View 1 RepliesI am struggling to find a way to animate a fill of text in Flash CS4. The concept I am looking for is that over a time period have the color rise from the bottom to the top. My initial attempt was to have 2 objects, one filled with the color and the other filled with white. I was hoping to just adjust the borders of the object or text to have it disappear, but that just reshapes the object, not cropping it. If you know how to crop into objects and reveal the object beneath, let me know.
I am very new to Flash so hopefully it is a simple answer, but I am not seeing it yet.
I'm producing an interactive video piece for my New Media masters project. I've put it up on my website, and was wondering out of curiousity, whats the recommended upper limit for the size of a .SWF file on the internet to run smoothly? I realise CPU and internet speeds vary greatly from machine to machine along with RAM, but is there a general upper limit which shouldn't be exceeded for .SWFs?
My project's .SWF is currently at 260kb. It also pulls in .FLVs that are between 800kb - 1.5mb and .mp3s between 1.5mb - 2mb via XML.
I am changing the flashvars variables v1=value&v2=value ect then after the flash movie runs I am changing the variables externally by javascript, so far so good.when flash first loads it reads the vars correctly.when I try to read them ( after the change ) it keeps reading the old values.[code]everything works except I cannot seem to read the changed FlashVars.
View 1 RepliesAssume you have a variety of number or int based variables that you want to be initialized to some default value. But using 0 could be problematic because 0 is meaningful and could have side affects. I have been working in Actionscript lately and have a variety of value objects with optional parameters so for most variables I set null but for numbers or ints I can't use null. An example:
package com.website.app.model.vo {
public class MyValueObject {
public function MyValueObject (
_id:String=null,
_amount:Number=0,
[Code] .....
The difficulty is that using 0 in the above code might be problematic if the value is not ever changed from its initial value. It is easy to detect if a variable has a null value. But detecting 0 may not be so easy because 0 might be a legitimate value. I want to set a default value to make the parameter optional but I also want to later detect in my code if the value was changed from its default without hard to debug side affects. I suppose I could use something like -1 for a value. I suppose it depends on the nature of the variable and the data.
I would like to know Adobe's Recommended system requirements for a PC running Flash Catalyst (not simply the minimum that are posted on this page: url...
View 1 RepliesWith the following recommended spec from Adobe website, how many concurrent users ? Flash Media Streaming Server system requirements OS : Windows Server 2003 SP2 or Windows 2008
H/W Requirements
- 3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4 Processor (dual Intel Xeon or faster recommended)
- 2GB RAM ( 4GB recommended)
- 1Gb Ethernet card
So, after just being dumped on from a great height by our development company I need to create an entire site in flash with login and dynamic addition of content etc etc.. What would be the recommended maximum size (pixel wise) for a flash site... what I have here is 1600px sq? It's mostly database driven so shouldn't lag too much from a point of view of file size, I'm just concerned because of the short deadline and I find this kind of large size wise to do 100% in flash..
View 10 RepliesCurrently I have a flash based application (game) which I need to put on facebook, the users could save their scores and resume their game. For the task I was wondering which scripting language would be appropriate. And are there any API's available which could in the process. Or does one has to make all of it from scratch.
View 1 RepliesA client needs a standard consumer color printer for printing name badges from my flash app. Last time we used the app, I couldn't do any pre-testing of their computer and printer beforehand. So, of course, the margins were completely wrong when the time came to print. Ideally, I'll have the flash app's bugs worked out for the next run, but for safety's sake does anyone know of a printer that has good controls for custom margins and offsets, in case some minor adjustments are needed?
View 1 Repliesmake a trivia game though the big question is how shuld i load the questions (with multiple answers) from flash or from txt or from asp?
View 1 RepliesThere are a few things regarding best practices in ActionScript that I would like to know about:1. When a class uses other classes located in the same package, I know that it is not necessary to import them.But what is the best practice ? Should they be imported, just for the sake of clarity and order or is it recommended not to import them ?2. Is there a recommended order in which to arrange the imported classes ? I am just interested if there is a general idea regarding the order.Maybe display object classes before event classes, maybe event classes before component classes, and so on.3. Is there a recommended order in which to arrange the class properties and methods Regarding the properties, private, public, protected, constants. Regarding the methods, private, public, protected, getters, setters.Again, I am simply looking for best practices and recommended practices regarding these issues, I am aware that they are not essential to the code and that each person can choose to do different things.
View 12 RepliesI need to do an in-place upgrade from 3.5.2 to 3.5.3 on my origin servers. Is there a recommended precedure to acheive this? I want to have the minimum downtime possible. CentOS, x64. I think something along the lines of :

View 1 RepliesI am doing an Actionscript 3.0 project which involves introspection. I am wondering if there is a way to get all the classes within a given package structure.

The project will have a web based interface but the actual presentation will be in flash. So the premise is you create a presentation, flash then reads the XML data, creates a menu and presents the other XML data in a linear fashion and my first question is whether the XML is in the correct format. I am not the one programming the XML side of things we have a .NET programmer doing that and he has not worked with Flash too much and this is also something new for me as well.
Code: Select all<presentation>

I recently made a website and the links for the main page do not seem to link properly to their rightful pages when I put the site online (but it does work well when Im just testing the site on my computer in my Flash program) I know that the website I made is very large - so I was wondering if that could be a reason for why the pages don't load properly - also one of the pages links to another site and although that seems to work on my swf when I play it in my Flash player - it doesn't work when I put it online-
Finally my sound quality is not that great for the site. The songs are in mp3 format - would it be better to make them .wav files?
Or are all these problems related and its just that my computer does not have enough power to convert this massive flash website into a proper swf file? If this is my problem. What do I do?
The site that I made is [URL]
I have a move that reads class files located in folder called 'src' and has been working once I changed the path to absolute. for some reason now my movie has decided not to work.
this is how I create the path:Go to porperties and click 'Edit' then clicking the AS3 'settings'. I then go to the 'Source path' tab and click 'browse folder' icon to the folder of the classes.having done all this my movie still does not work.
I have an XML doc that was exported from FileMaker Pro that I need to read into flash to get the variables from. The XML doc is laid out like this (shortened for brevity):
<FMPXMLRESULT>
<ERRORCODE>0</ERRORCODE>
<PRODUCT BUILD="06-20-2006" NAME="FileMaker Pro"/>
<DATABASE DATEFORMAT="M/d/yyyy"/>
[code]....
It keeps telling me a term is undefined and has no properties. This I've isolated to the backgroundArray.push statement. Just not sure how to fish the data out of that XML doc properly. What call would I use to iterate thru the different ROW tags to get to the DATA info?
I'm creating a interactive 'thing' where I've got buttons which when clicked show a an image and display text relating to the value in the XML file.
The XML is working and I can trace the any percentage(value I'm looking to find).
Code:
function LoadXML(e:Event):void
{
xmlData = new XML(e.target.data);

using the authoring tool to test,I find I can only read certain keys via:stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyDown);
But when I test in a browser, I can indeed read all the keys. So the IDE must be intercepting certain keypresses. E.g., I can read w and d but not e.
How can I read all keys? Testing in a browser all the time is a bit inconvenient
I would like to have two applications communicate with each other. One app is a Flash running the browser and the other one is another app of ours that is distributed as *.exe file. We need the C/C++ application to read some info out of the SOL file, that is written by the Flash app.
Any other mean that can be used to read the SOL file from a C/C++ application? How often is the format of the SOL file being changed ?
I know there is a way to read variables from PHP, i have seen the many tutorials. What I want to do is slightly different. I need to load the flash file with a variable.I want the user to have a url containing a variable, the PHP will then get the posted variable and load it into the flash file on the page. Is there a way to load the variable into the flash file?URLtest.php?var="list.xml"Inside PHPget posted variableload flash file and load the var into the actionscriptFlash embeded on page or on a redirect pageActionscript uses variable which was originally embedded in the URL
View 3 Replieson my first frame in the main timeline, i specify a var var geklikt:String = "About";
now on the same timeline, on the same frame, theres an MCin that MC, i want to read the value of the var created on the maintime line.
What I have so far...sure there is a better way to do this and as I learn AS3 I will figure it out. The following is what I put together where I now have three instances of the segmented thumbnail button that shows an image when cliked on. What I figure out why it only reads the one xml file.
My XML files: images, images_a, images_b
