What Is The Recommended Scripting Language For Talking Between Flash And Facebook API

Dec 10, 2009

Currently I have a flash based application (game) which I need to put on facebook, the users could save their scores and resume their game. For the task I was wondering which scripting language would be appropriate. And are there any API's available which could in the process. Or does one has to make all of it from scratch.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Scripting Language In Flash?

Dec 2, 2009

I'm using Flash CS3 with Actionscript 3, and I need to have a scripting language that the user can use. If they could type in their own actionscript and have it evaluated, that would be perfect. Another scripting language such as Lua would be fine too. I looked into lua alchemy, but it seems poorly supported so I'd rather not use that. The Eval command from actionscript 2 isn't available in as3, and some of the things I've heard indicate that it's functionality is pretty limited, although I've never used it before.

Flash :: Load Facebook ID Vars Into Client Side Scripting?

Sep 2, 2011

I'd like to simply display the users name and photo inside a flash app. I hope to do this only in the client without using any backend scripting. The ActionScript 3 SDK for Facebook Platform is under construction for the next few weeks to comply with new facebook requirements so I don't trust the current build to be useful.

We have searched and built tests for a week with no luck. I have a feeling the answer is either very simple or not possible.

Javascript :: The Best Scripting Language For Web Audio / Sound

Jul 1, 2010

I'm looking to start learning a scripting language for web audio and sound development. It needs to be able to handle simultaneous audio events, eg; to trigger a sound when another is playing (I'm not sure if and how this is possible, but have witnessed this kind of presentation: [URL] (can this kind of thing be done with JavaScipt?, this looks like AS / Flash)).

From what I can tell the choice appears to be between JavaScript (JS) and ActionScript (JS), with details as follows: - If going the JS route (look into JS and HTML(5) audio capability) Learn about the basics of HTML and CSS, and then start to look into JavaScript, Ajax, and JQurey (library / framework for JavaScript). If going the AS route Will not need to know as much about HTML and CSS. AS is the language behind Flash. Not supported on the i-phone(?) I know Java to around an intermmediate level.

Flash :: Adobe Facebook API Facebook.login VS Facebook.ui Popups?

Oct 24, 2010

I'm currently building an application using the Adobe Facebook API and I've run into an issue where for the login method the Facebook login popup displays but when doing a Facebook share/post the popup is blocked.

This code works fine and displays me a Facebook login popup without question (Firefox):

var permissions:Array = ['publish_stream'];

Facebook.login( onFacebookLogin, { perms:permissions.join(',') } );

However, the following code running in the same application throws up a popup blocker (again Firefox):

Facebook.ui( "stream.publish", "popup", params );

Does anyone know of a work around this issue to make the share popup come up just like the login popup?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Largest Recommended Size For Flash Site

Jul 12, 2011

So, after just being dumped on from a great height by our development company I need to create an entire site in flash with login and dynamic addition of content etc etc.. What would be the recommended maximum size (pixel wise) for a flash site... what I have here is 1600px sq? It's mostly database driven so shouldn't lag too much from a point of view of file size, I'm just concerned because of the short deadline and I find this kind of large size wise to do 100% in flash..

Printing - Recommended Printer For Flash PrintJob() (Name Badges)?

Mar 29, 2011

A client needs a standard consumer color printer for printing name badges from my flash app. Last time we used the app, I couldn't do any pre-testing of their computer and printer beforehand. So, of course, the margins were completely wrong when the time came to print. Ideally, I'll have the flash app's bugs worked out for the next run, but for safety's sake does anyone know of a printer that has good controls for custom margins and offsets, in case some minor adjustments are needed?

Flash :: Facebook Connect And Actionscript - Make All Of The Facebook API Calls Via JavaScript

Jun 1, 2009

I'm trying to determine the practical difference between using the com.facebook.session.WebSession and com.facebook.session.JSSession. The documentation ([URL]) has more around WebSession - but the example I have which is closest to what solution I'm trying to implement uses JSSession and it looks like I could avoid all of the JavaScript pass-through & ExternalInterface calls I'm making. It appears that the benefit of using this new ActionScript Facebook API is to avoid having to make all of the Facebook calls via JavaScript.

Flash :: Facebook :: Facebook Pages And Content - Autoplay?

Dec 6, 2011

I've recently used the 'Static HTML' application to add autoplaying flash content to a Facebook Page.Nothing too fancy, no sound, and only a few secs long. Now, Facebook say:-"Apps on Pages must not host media that plays automatically without a user's interaction."

What do they mean by 'Media' exactly? I can understand a ban on autoplaying audio content but does the ban extend to something as harmless as an animated GIF? Or more to the point, does an autoplaying .swf file fall under this?

Lastly, what course of action would Facebook take if I did violate this rule? Would they issue a warning (giving me an opportunity to remove the 'offending' item) or would they just shut down my page without any consultation?

Recommended Size For .SWF On Website?

Jul 21, 2009

I'm producing an interactive video piece for my New Media masters project.  I've put it up on my website, and was wondering out of curiousity, whats the recommended upper limit for the size of a .SWF file on the internet to run smoothly? I realise CPU and internet speeds vary greatly from machine to machine along with RAM, but is there a general upper limit which shouldn't be exceeded for .SWFs?

My project's .SWF is currently at 260kb.  It also pulls in .FLVs that are between 800kb - 1.5mb and .mp3s between 1.5mb - 2mb via XML.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Classes Talking To Each Other

Aug 27, 2010

Now I am trying to another very simple thing.

In my main time line I have:
var _side = new Side();
var _main = new Main();

I have Main.as and Side.as saved in the same folder as Main.fla.

Here is Main.as

ActionScript Code:
class Main {
public function Main(){

[Code]....

Now the Main.as knows nothing of the variables speed and velocity. Is there a way to reference back and forth? Say for instance I have a dog class that drinks water from the water class.

If it rains then the water class changes var Water from 4 to 8; When the dog drink the water he can drink until the water is gone, but how the water variable was changed in the water class not the dog class.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Scripting 3D In Flash?

Jul 28, 2007

I'm going to have a bunch of questions as I progress through the tutorial.http:[url]....At the bottom of the page, sen writes this:Finally the function to make it all happen.This will base camera movement off of the arrow keys and use

clip._x += Math.cos(angle)*radius;
clip._y += Math.sin(angle)*radius;However in his code he writes this:cameraView.x += Math.sin(cameraView.rotation)*movement;
cameraView.z += Math.cos(cameraView.rotation)*movement;what happens is he switches the sin and cos methods from what he said. However, for displaying all the "figures" those far and including this example, cos was used for "x" and sin was used for "y" like so:
var x = Math.cos(angle)*this.radius;
var z = Math.sin(angle)*this.radius;

ActionScript :: Recommended Initialization Values For Numbers

Jul 12, 2009

Assume you have a variety of number or int based variables that you want to be initialized to some default value. But using 0 could be problematic because 0 is meaningful and could have side affects. I have been working in Actionscript lately and have a variety of value objects with optional parameters so for most variables I set null but for numbers or ints I can't use null. An example:

package com.website.app.model.vo {
public class MyValueObject {
public function MyValueObject (
_id:String=null,
_amount:Number=0,
[Code] .....

The difficulty is that using 0 in the above code might be problematic if the value is not ever changed from its initial value. It is easy to detect if a variable has a null value. But detecting 0 may not be so easy because 0 might be a legitimate value. I want to set a default value to make the parameter optional but I also want to later detect in my code if the value was changed from its default without hard to debug side affects. I suppose I could use something like -1 for a value. I suppose it depends on the nature of the variable and the data.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Child Swf Talking To Parent SWF?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Talking To External SWF Doc Class?

Jun 11, 2009

I have a file structure similar to the following:

LoadingSWF
LoadingSWFDocClass
ContentSWF
ContentSWFDocClass

In my ContentSWFDocClass I reference library elements that were "exported for actionscript", so they only exist in the ContentSWF. The ContentSWF compiles fine because my ContentSWFDocClass can find all the resources in the library....

The problem is that I need my LoadingSWFDocClass to talk to my ContentSWFDocClass. However, when I try to include a variable (or make any reference to something) of type ContentSWFDocClass in my LoadingSWFDocClass I get a compile error because the compiler doesn't recognize the library symbols that ContentSWFDocClass is referencing.

How can I get around this? I really need to reference elements in the library in my ContentSWFDocClass, and I also really need to be able to send commands from my LoadingSWFDocClass to my ContentSWFDocClass.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Intermittent Error Talking Between Classes

Mar 17, 2011

I am building a quiz using XML for the questions and a ButtonTopLevel class to control the behaviour of the buttons tasked with choosing a question. Basically, the docClass imports the XML, makes sure it is fully loaded and then adds these top level buttons as children. I need to maintain the MouseEvent.CLICK in the button class because once the button has been used, it will switch to feedback mode and no longer be available as a button. Once clicked, the button says:

[Code]....

I have a sort of "go back" button in during development, and if I go back to the top level buttons and click any one of them, it works as it should. There is nothing undefined, with the possible exception of a variable or two I've declared and not yet used. Is it something in the way I'm telling the child to talk to its parent? My code is rather lengthy, but I will post if need be - just hoping it might be something I'm missing in this call to the parent.
