What Does The Following Line Of Hit Test Code Mean

if (_root.Limits.Border.hitTest(this._x + xspeed, this._y + yspeed, true))Beginning with (this._x), I do not understand what effect that has on the hit test itself. I understand that the_root.Limits.Border.hitTestcalls a hit test on Border, which resides within the movie clip Limits. What effect is had on the outcome of the hit test by adding in those specific variables, along with the "true" at the end? I'm making a game that of course uses extensive hit test collision detection, and this code is from a sample I've been working on to get my collision detection down pat.
I am trying to dispatch an event but not sure when I should do it to get the right results. The first event "submitClicked" is in the right spot and works great. However, the second event "dataReady" seems like it might be a problem. I need it to be dispatched after this.compiledFormData is set.Does AS3 wait for each line of code in a function to be executed before moving on to the next line?

I want to use a non-standard font on the web in a various combinations of font-color and font-size without having to assign individual configs for each. So far sIFR seems to pick up font-size no problem. but not font color, so I am working on a work around.
The problem I am running into: sIFR is breaking text to the next line without a linebreak <BR> being present.

For the sake of the project I am working on, it looks like setting the standard to block level elements only with font-sizes of 18px and above will be the route taken to keep from holding it up further, but I still have personal interest and would like to pursue understanding sIFR and the line breaking further.

How can I test if my AS3 code is executing from root or from a child mc that has been imported into a larger project via the loader class? Details:I've got a tutorial that is published both as a standalone projector (exe) and as an swf imported at runtime into a larger project. If the tutorial is running by itself as a standalone projector it needs to execute a few fscommands and perform some other housekeeping chores. If the tutorial is running as a child of the larger project these chores must be skipped. I canā't test Capabilities.playerType because the parent can also run as a standalone projector. It's simple, but here's what I had before I realized the parent might also be standalone:
I have the following problema: I have an audio file that makes a line move using the computeSpectrum method in as3 like this:

The thing is that I have 16 objects at the same time doing this, and it gets too slow. So I came up with an idea to solve this, and my idea is to instead of calculating the spectrum every frame that I would have a defined movement that looped, like the movement of a flag repeting.
We all know that you can make a frame lable in a movie clip and call it on press,rollOver ect...

My question is how to get the line of code to run without and buttons. I have made a few sites and never had to do this. I have tried making a function. But to no avail. I just want it to load when the frame reads the code..
for (var i = 0 ; i < 10000000; i++) ;stop();I've placed this code in frame 1 of a flash app. As you can see it does nothing but count to 10,000,000. This takes about 20 seconds to execute.
In C#.NET, this one line runs over 400 times faster. It can count to one billion in less time. Why? I could see it being faster in C#, but what could possibly be going on under the hood that could make it 400 times slower in AS, given that the one line should reduce to just a few machine instructions?
(If you're wondering, I've been tasked with porting some C# code to ActionScript. The code has some scientific calculations in it. But in AS they run so slow that it is unusable. This is the most basic example of the problem.)

ok so I am trying to draw a curve and then make it into a mask, the problem is, flash only calculates the mask for a fill and thus using the line does not work. Does anyone know of a way to convert a line to a fill with as3 without using something like bitmap data as I would like to keep it as vector data if possible, below is my code:

I have a movieclip called myButton,inside of myButton i have a textfield called buttonLabel. I've created an movieclip button that onRelease: moves to the highest depth and expands to the entire page and onRelease again: contracts to a thumbnail and moves to a lower depth.'ve got the animation working. However, I'd like the movieclip to finish playing the contracting to a thumbnail animation to the end before moving to a lower depth. I am trying to rewind the time line inside a movie clip using the enclosed code - it works fine on Rollover but only for 2 frames on Rollout - what do I need to add to repeat the prevFrame function and go back to the beginning?

It loads the XML variable fullimg into an empty movie clip on its own layer in the timeline.The movieclip, "container", is assigned this code, but the code isn't on the movieclip, it's on a frame designated for just actionscript.This is the code
The Problem Is...When there is no image loaded into the movie clip, it works fine, and shifts around depending on the location of the other movie clip, "content". But, once there is an image loaded into "container", it stops shifting around depending on the location of "content", and just sits in its last location.The only thing i can IMAGINE being problematic is, on another frame, where I have the XML being cut up and assigned to variables, at the end I have a remove _root.onEnterFrame, removing the onEnterFrame at the beginning of the XML to variables line of code, so that is stops running.
I created a rigged character in Flash Prof. CS 5.5 that has a mouth that moves when the user types letters. Is there any way I can insert a line of code that will simulate the user hitting a key and thus trigger the functions that I have already written?
We just shipped Xuggler 3.4 this weekend which now has the ability to record and publish RTMP streams. That means you can now write Xuggler (a Java API for encoding and decoding video) programs that can publish to FMS or record from FMS.
We've worked closely with the FFmpeg team to get the core RTMP stack into that project, and have put together a tutorial on how to use FFmpeg to record or publish streams, including re-encoding media to H264/AAC while publishing.
of course i could hardcode that - but if I then change something about the as file, the linenumbers won't be correct anymore, or maybe i rename the as file and so on. It'd be great to be able to create that string somehow using compiler directives. Is this Possible in an AIR application created with ActionScript 3.0?
