ActionScript 3.0 :: Test If Code Is Executing From Root Or From A Child Mc?
Jun 17, 2009
How can I test if my AS3 code is executing from root or from a child mc that has been imported into a larger project via the loader class? Details:I've got a tutorial that is published both as a standalone projector (exe) and as an swf imported at runtime into a larger project. If the tutorial is running by itself as a standalone projector it needs to execute a few fscommands and perform some other housekeeping chores. If the tutorial is running as a child of the larger project these chores must be skipped. I canā't test Capabilities.playerType because the parent can also run as a standalone projector. It's simple, but here's what I had before I realized the parent might also be standalone:
Is there any way to execute some actionscript in a child swf from the parent without actually having the script in the child swf,or having to add a callback.I'm new to flash so i don't know what can be done,or if it's easy to do.to be more specific,i need search a array.
I have a main.mxml, child.mxml and headermenu.mxml. I click a button on the headermenu that dispatches an event up to the main.mxml which then executes a method in child.mxml. I know this works because I put an AlertDialog in the function I'm calling inside of the child.mxml. The child.mxml contains a drawingArea object that has an erase(). When I call this directly from child.xml it executes, however if I put drawingArea.erase() inside of the function being called by child's parent (main.mxml) nothing happens.[code]...
I have this movieClip "Container" and within it on two different frames I have two movieClip/buttons, "pause_btn" and "play_btn", respectively. I would like to call a function on the main timeline on frame two of "Container" where "play_btn" is located. I think I'm getting close but really have no idea. I know about the visible property and have been considering that, but isn't there a way to call a parent function from within a child movie clip? The code looks like this.
I'm trying to create a RTMP Streaming application but I can't seem to get the server-side code to run. I've checked the logs on RootInstaller/logs/test, but nothing inside it. I am running everything locally also.Here's what I have:
ActionScript3 file
public function btnConnectHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { nc = new NetConnection(); nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);[code].....
This problem is probably very simple to solve but it is not clear to me. It may simply be that I am doing something incorrectly. I have studied OOP and AS3 for quite a few hours so I am familiar with the concepts but not the flow. This is a project that I put together in order to reinforce what I have been studying.The goal here is to load an instance of a pre-created movieclip to the stage from the library then execute a positioning function in the FLA's timeframe ActionScript and execute a function from within the AS files's class ActionScript to both a resize the movieclip and output a trace.I have two files:smileface.flasmileface.as
I have several skin parts defined in a custom component and I want to execute some code after all parts have been added.Currently, my only idea is to use if statement in overrided partAdded method to test if all parts have been added. Something like this:
override protected function partAdded(partName:String, instance:Object):void { super.partAdded(partName, instance);[code]....
Is there a way to execute code (like a preloader) before loading the embedded assets? I'm using the [embed] tag with CS5, and I'd like to avoid using an external preloader.
I have a data group that displays profile picture of people on facebook.Im also pulling their status but I do that inside the item renderer [code]Now what happens is that the statuses are mixed up.Only few people are really shown their true status and the others get other people status.Im guessing thats because Flash builder executes the code before i get a call back from Facebook server, and thats why statuses arent synchronized.Is there a solution for this problem? like stopping the item renderer from processing before he get all data?Iunderstand i can pull the data in the Main program, but im asking if theres a way to do that inside the item renderer for future uses 10x for your answer, but im still experiencing the same problem when using class. because theres is no way of knowing when ill get the call back from the Facebook server. The problem with facebook api for flash is that you get the info in a diffrent function from the one your send the call.[code0so what happens is that i need to return the info from the function profilepic, but i have no idea if it already got the data.
I've created an movieclip button that onRelease: moves to the highest depth and expands to the entire page and onRelease again: contracts to a thumbnail and moves to a lower depth.'ve got the animation working. However, I'd like the movieclip to finish playing the contracting to a thumbnail animation to the end before moving to a lower depth. Here's a concatenated version of the code://Variable that I set to know when the button was clicked first to expand.
One of the swf files in my project is acting strangely.The file compiles perfectly, and is functional when running stand-alone.If I try to load it into the main swf in my project, the code stops executing just prior to the first for..
loop.To find out where the code was stopping, I placed a textfield on the stage named "stageText", and assigned different strings to it at various points in the flow of actionscript.It stops executing immediately after stageText.text = "init2";, and just before the first for..loop. (see comments in code)Why is the code stopping at the for loop?Why does it only happen when the file is loaded into another swf?
Code: import gs.*; import gs.easing.*; var locationsXML:XML;
How do I reference the root frame label in a function for event dispatching using a switch statement.
SUMMARY: This is simple, but as I've stepped away from ActionScript for too long, I'm having trouble figuring out the proper test expression to reference the root timeline frame label (e.g., switch(the root frame label)).
Nothing i've tried works: switch(this.label)://obviously this would look at the button timeline switch(event.root.label)://player says there is no "root" property ...
STRUCTURE: I have five MCs, one on each of five frames. I have a forward button and a back button. I created a switch statement to specify different actions, based on the root frame label. Frame labels are f1, f2, f3, f4, fend.
Is there a way to load a file and waiting for the event listener with out continuing executing other code.
I tried using a while loop with a flag that is set by the on Complete in order to exit the wait loop.
This generates a timeout error. private var loaded:Boolean = false;
function SpriteLoader(filepath:String){ trace("Attempting to Load File:" + filepath); FileLoader = new Loader(); var FileRequest = new URLRequest(filepath);
I've seen some discussion on how to load a child swf using swfLoader and accessing it's variables but I am wondering if it is possible to do this without adding any code to the child swf.Either accessing public vars or listening for funciton calls would work fine
I'm loading a movie in externally. The external movie has a button to unload itself from the main movie. It loads into _root.calContainer. The button is called xButton. This is the script that's not working:
In Flex 3.2 I had implemented a tooltip manager and I used the topLevelSystemManager from ISystemManager to add a child to the sandbox root: The code was as follows:
I got a variable "VideoFolder" well defined in my root level. However when I used this variable directly in child layers, my script does not recognize it and I get error 1120: Access of undefined property VideoFolder. I tried changing VideoFolder with _root.VideoFolder in all my child layers scripts, but it changes nothing.
i have navigation menu animated click it pops up from corner to center click its gone and gotoandplay('page2') is triggered. while page loads menu goes away. So my point is i want to show page title only after menu is gone (menu clip stopped playing) this works but menu is child MC i try put
Is there a way to test collision with a child of an object?eg.
ActionScript Code: obj1.hitTestObject(obj2.childObj1) obj1 and obj2 are on the same level of hierarchy.
I am trying to test when an object collides with a particular location of another object so i made a 1x1 movieclip (childObj1) and placed it inside obj2 at that particular position.
I'm switching from as2 to as3 and everything was going swimmingly with my new site until i tried to use a _root call to a function on the main timeline by a loaded movieClip that is loaded nested into 2 other movieclips. the movieClip needs to tell the _root when it's done playing so the root knows to load the next one in line through a php call. Everything works except for the _root call. In as3 there's no such thing as root anymore so I figured no big deal, i'll just find out what the new thing is and holy crap wtf! I can't figure this out!! I've read from doing stuff like custom eventLisnters (which i am trying now) and casting the root as a movieClip and then I read this whole crazy tutorial on building an event structure and the proper MVC way of coding and blah blah blah ALL I WANT TO DO is tell the _root that the loaded MC has reached the end of its timeline. Basically if it were as2 i could just go _root.loadNext(); and it would work.how to make a loaded MC talk to the _root timeline and call a funciton from there?
I'm trying to add an element to the scene on the root level, and when it is dropped within a specific movie clip area, it takes that element and puts it in the movie clip, thus allowing me to mask out the area.
Everything works fine when I add can.addChild(myBox); directly, but the element is not viewable on the root scene, since the movie clip is masked. Right now with the code below, the result is gives me is not good. It creates the element on the root level, but doesn't allow me to put it in the movie clip.
I'm using a PreLoader as a parent SWF that loads the actual website as a child SWF. In the website SWF, the child SWF, will MovieClip(root) still work and refer to it's own root, or the PreLoader's root? And would I still access the websitite's document class (the child's document class), through MovieClip(root)? What if both files have a document class?So my main question is how do document classes and MovieClip(root) behave in the scenario when you have:
if (_root.Limits.Border.hitTest(this._x + xspeed, this._y + yspeed, true))Beginning with (this._x), I do not understand what effect that has on the hit test itself. I understand that the_root.Limits.Border.hitTestcalls a hit test on Border, which resides within the movie clip Limits. What effect is had on the outcome of the hit test by adding in those specific variables, along with the "true" at the end? I'm making a game that of course uses extensive hit test collision detection, and this code is from a sample I've been working on to get my collision detection down pat.
I want to tear my hair out and cry! I've just upgraded to CS4 and am trying to create a simple swf that consists of a root timeline with various frames, each labelled 'home', 'bio' & 'contact'. There are buttons on the stage with instance names and then on the first frame of my root timeline I have the following code (as well as the _root.stop() as actionscript on the labelled frames):
//This is my original code which works fine when my button is present on the root timeline btn_up.onRelease = function() { getURL("javascript:Launch('website.html', 2000, 1200)");
