What Types Of Files Can Flash Handle

Oct 8, 2009

A gentleman doing the sound track for the video I want to do on Flash has asked me what audio files Flash will handle?  I have looked at Adobe and Macromedia and many other Flash websites and, of course, Flash itself, and cannot find any enumeration of what video files Flash handles, much less any mention of what audio files.

Upload - Flash Uploader That Can Handle >2GB Files?

May 27, 2010

Is there an open source Flash uploader that can handle files larger than 2 GB? ASP.net implementations like SlickUpload are not an option, and SWFUpload (and others that I've seen) do not handle files larger than 2 GB. Nor is requiring the user to have Java installed to run applets. This would be for both IE and Firefox.

I've seen a couple "large file transfer" sites that have a Flash uploader and claim to go past the 2GB limit (which is the limit for http uploads for most browsers) so I know it is technically possible.

Embedding Newer Types Of FLV Files

Jun 16, 2010

In the past I embedded several (with makers permission) youtube clips into a html web page (with the file stored on my server - mainly because I think it looks nicer). It worked fine. Now these were the old plain .flv low quality ones. But now I am trying to embed the newer higher quality youtube version, again, with the file stored on my server, and the embed code I used previously doesn't work. Now the new higher quality file is still called flv but it has a codec: mp4a

My old coding:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="704" height="546"
wmode="transparent" data="mediaplayer.swf?file=xxx.flv&autoStart=false ">
<param name="movie" value="mediaplayer.swf?file=xxx.flv&autoStart=fals e" />
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
</object>

ActionScript 2.0 :: Flash Scrollbar Gallery - Replace The Rectangular Handle With Own Customised Handle

Feb 6, 2010

I'm creating a scrollbar gallery from a tutorial on this site. Though I've completed the tutorial, and customised the gallery to my own needs, however I'm trying to make a very small change to it - and no matter what I do, keep running into problems. I'm trying to replace the rectangular handle with my own customised handle - a (20 x 20) 'circular' png image that I've imported into Flash, made a graphic and stored in the library (though I understand it can be imported using actionscript, like the other images in the gallery).

ActionScript 2.0 :: Upload Multiple Files (with The Specified Max Sizes, And File Types) To A Server?

Feb 22, 2007

Does any one have a working fla. and php script to upload multiple files (with the specified max sizes, and file types) to a server? In addition, when there is an image being uploaded, it would be luxurious to have a thumbnail of the image being uploaded displayed.There is clearly not a simple issue. Scores of designers and developers encountered problems and headaches trying to upload multiple files with and image display (if an image is being uploaded). Even my web designer has a slight problem, although he tweaked some of the code to get a simple upload. Adobe needs to address this issue because it seems that sscores of designers and developers are having difficulty with uploading multitple files.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Map Data Types To Custom Types?

Jan 24, 2012

Consider the following function:

Code:
public function foo(bar1:int, bar2:uint, bar3:String, bar4:Boolean):void{}

What I want is to have the different types of data represented by custom named types which are essentially representing the original data types. I other word, I would like to proxy the data types and have a valid function as following:

Code:
public function foo(bar1:PAR_Bar1, bar2:PAR_Bar2, bar3:PAR_Bar3, bar4:PAR_Bar4):void{}

so PAR_Bar1 would proxy the `int` data type, PAR_Bar2 would proxy the `uint` data type, so on and so forth.

The reason I need this is because I'm using a debugger with a GUI that can run methods and allows changing function parameter values in real-time, the issue is that the debugger can't tell me what parameter I'm changing, it only displays the data type of a parameter. So if I need to change 10 different parameters all of type int, the debuggers display all of them as int and not by their names.

I think that if I use proxy types I can easily differentiate between parameters.

So, my question: Is it possible to proxy data types? I mean map specific data types to custom data types that would represent the base data types?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get A Handle On Embedded Sound Files?

May 7, 2009

From the Sound Class information, it says to use the SoundMixer Class to handle embedded Sound Files.  I have two sound files embedded, that I have setup in 2 separate layers, starting at frame one in the main timeline.  I needed to do this so I could see the wave files, and coordinate text with the waves.  I do not want to load these files into the .swf file at runtime using URLRequest.  How do I get a handle on those as they exist, to make each controllable by separate volume and mute controls for each sound?

This will be a challenging question, because, "it can't be done" doesn't work for me.  I managed to create a way to use an external classfile to control the main timeline, the ROOT timeline, without having to create a sub movie to root.  I can use my component to call play(); as though it were in code in a frame.  But it isn't, it's in an external classfile.  I passed root to the classfile and told the classfile to think of it as a movieclip - that put the handle on it.  I tried similar way with root as a Sound, but that isn't detailed enough - I need to get a handle on the frame that contains the embedded sound file.  I embedded, attached it, using the properties view for the frame.

I've attached, or whatever you want to call it, these sound files to a frame, and this frame is or should be attached to the layer I've created.  So, under the assumption that the ROOT has everything attached to it in some manner (it is after all the foundation for the COM), the stage of the root contains the visual components, so ROOT has to have the layer objects attached to it, which should have the frame objects attached to the layers.  I have two layers that each have a .wav file attached to frame one.  Somehow Flash keeps track of that - I want to know how Flash does it so I can read what flash reads.

Javascript :: Handle Ajax Preloader For SWF Files?

I'm very much aware that it is possible to preload a flash file by using another flash file, but I was wondering if anyone knows about an AJAX preloader that can load swfs (also, a progressEvent would be a nice extra) and then add the flash file to the HTML document. I did quite some googling but it seems that there is no such thing out there. Is it überhaupt possible?

Does Flash Support Compressed Audio Types Other Than Mp3

May 7, 2009

I would like to add a very small and simple Flash audio player to my website.  I have found lots of Flash MP3 players, but I can't seem to find players that will work with other types of audio files, such as aac/m4a/mp4.

I had previously been using Windows Media Server to stream WMA files on my site, but this only works for Windows users, and I need streaming to work for Mac users as well.  So I think Flash is the way to go, but I cannot use mp3's because of licensing concerns.

I've been looking and looking for a flash player that supports other audio types, but can't find one. Is it true that flash has a native class for mp3, but doesn't have built-in support for others?

Flash :: Handle Manual .swf Caching?

Jul 8, 2011

I have a .swf in my rails application, located here:

/public/bin/editor/Editor.swf

It works fine, with one flaw, it gets cached often, so when we release a new version we are usually needing to tell the customers to clear their cache when they experience issues. My question is, how could I force the .swf to break cache when I release a new version? Something like:

/public/bin/editor/Editor.swf?timestamp=124158512132

I tried the above, but it did not seem to work.

Flash CS5 :: Cannot Handle Custom-built Components

Dec 10, 2010

A few days ago I decided I wanted to make my own drag&drop flash components, with inspectable properties. Since the documentation for flash components is so limited, I followed the workflow of some blogs I found around the web (mostly about CS3 components). In the end I managed to create a component that has a Live View, that gets a visual update whenever you change the properties (width, height, color..) ....in CS4 !

The problem in CS5 is that when I drag my component on the stage, the timeline of this movieclip starts playing in a loop. As you may or may not know, Components have 1 "Avatar" frame, and 1 "Assets" frame. So this looks kinda weird when that timeline plays.

There is always the possibility that I made a mistake, but when I download the source files from the blog post on the page  http://active.tutsplus.com/tutorials/actionscript/creating-flash-compo nents-for-distribution/comment-page-1/#comment-33865
the same thing happens.

When I then save my CS5 FLA as a CS4 FLA and try to use the downloaded component and my own, both of them work fine in CS4. So I think this might be a bug in CS5.? Which is pretty bad because I wanted to use these components in iphone development using the CS5 packager...I read somewhere that we actually use the UIComponent because it has no timeline, so I don't see how it's possible that it plays.

I uploaded my source files to [URL]
