im learning as3 and am trying to understand arrays so could an array be used in this situation i have 5 buttons which all need a ROLL_OVER, ROLL_OUT and CLICK mouse event is it easier to put all the buttons in an array and then use the array identifier to add the even listeners? or is there another way to do this? p.s if anyone can give me a few basic usages of arrays that you use in your experience. where to use arrays too

I have two movie clips. The child movieclip is a button with rollover events which is nested inside the parent. I would like the parent to also have rollover events, but I understand that this is not possible in flash. I am familiar with two workarounds: event bubbling/delegation and the event listeners.

I have some functions that when applied directly to buttons work as planned, but when I create a function from them to apply to the array, they fail to execute properly. This function is meant to set all 56 buttons to alpha 0, and as unselected. What happens is the buttons flash onscreen at 100% before setting to alpha 0. They do behave as if unselected, but don't know if that's due to the code.

This function should fade the button up on rollover. But on rollover the button only increase by 10% then stops. Each subsequent rollover increases it another 10%.

This function should fade the button out on rollout. Since the rollover increases them only by 10% increments (above), the result is the buttons just bounce back and forth between alpha 20 and 30.

I have 3 frames each with a movie clip called map_mc. Each different map_mc have different objects that call the CollisionDetect class. Heres whats happening. objects from frame 1 will start freaking out when I goto frame 2. How do I remove only the event listeners from objects only on frame 1?
I have been trying this.currentFrame but the problem is that all the objects are inside map_mc on the first frame so no matter what it will always be 1. On the other hand MovieClip(root).currentFrame will always give me the current frame but wont tell me what the objects frame is relative to the stage.What I want to do is have something to this effect:MovieClip(root).this.currentFrame would output that this object is on frame 1 and MovieClip(root).currentFrame will tell me that the stage is on frame 2 so I can remove the listeners accordingly.

In the below code, "sector" is an indexed array.fsector1, fsector2,fsector3 are Associative arrays.The "gotoAndStop" command doesnt work properly.The last trace command, "curTerr" returns the same value as "curSec",leading me to assume i did not define "curTerr" properly.

I want to say that everything I code and work with is created through a main class and added to the stage through actionscript, the stage is completely empty before running.I've got a button in my library, and I create 8 of them and add them to the stage. I also add them to an aaray which i then compare in a for loop to add an event listener to them. I do it this way because they all run the same function. Each of the 8 buttons has a variable which is unique to that specific instance which I will use to do execute different sections of the function that gets called when I click one of the buttons.[code]

I've created a code to add a custom cursor and drag movieclips. It works fine for one moviclip. But I would like to create a function to add the drag function with custom cursor to any movieClip that i add to an array. My first try has problems cause I need to create a different listener name to each movieClip.

I'm trying to remove all the event listeners from nextBtn. the names of all the possable callback functions are stored in mdpArray. I want to use the for loop to remove all the listeners from nextBtn. the error message says
cannot convert "mdp1_1" to Function
How can i make this work.

I have 22 buttons (each named buttoni where i is a number between 0-21...e.g. button0, button1, button2) that I've created and artfully arranged on the stage in my .fla file. The document class for the .fla file is People.as, and in People I'd like to give each button a rollover and click event listener, but I can't figure out how to refer to them using a loop.

I am using CS3 set to AS3. On frame one I have 120 buttons ( yes, one hundred twenty buttons), unfortunately I have tried to reduce this but to no avail. Anyway, I know I can put these into an array to take away some of the coding. but my question is can I also use a integer?
My button are named Btn1 - Btn120. I would want to use the array and integer for simple things such as event listeners for roll over, click, roll out, and a couple of basic if statements. All of the buttons are movie clips.For some other more detailed functions I know I could still call the button name ( at least I think I should still be able to), but wanted to make sure.

I am trying to create a drag and drop activity, and I would like to use an array for easy reusability.I'm new to as3 so I've been adjusting my old as2 code. I am using a component for each of my drags and most of it is working well.My problem is with the event handlers. I use the array to populate all of my 'drags' with the information added in their parameters and this works, but when I create my event listeners it seems to only want to move the last item in the array.My drag components are called drag1, drag2, and drag3.[code]

Anyway, I am just trying to figure out movie clips as buttons, and have been following along on however, I seem to be doing these things right, but when i test my movie, the button just loops regardless of rollovers or stop actions.You can check this addressto see the failed anim, and you should be able to import it as well. Here is my coding:

I created a button in one movie. I nested a second movie that is the same size as the first movie. In the second movie I can successfully hide an object in the first movie with an object in the second movie. However, I can't prevent a button in the first movie from being shown in the second movie.

I'm having a hard time understanding to use the Delegate class. I don't seem to understand what it does from what I read online.
Will it work for this situation? I want to rollover a menu that expands onRollover. You can then click on buttons within the rolled over portion. Is delegate for me?

i have a movie clip and inside that MC i have a menu with some buttons(they are also MovieClips), my buttons(MC) inside the menu MC are animated by the mx.transitions tweens, all of that works fine.
then i want to put my menu with some transparency by default and restablish the _alpha to 100% when i rollOver the menu, when i do that the change with the _alpha propertie works fine but my buttons inside the MovieClip no longer works?

I have three movieclip "buttons" within a couple of nested movieclips and I am unsure how to address them in actionscript. I have an event listener and a function for the rollover and rollout mouseEvents below

I have two scenes on my flash file viz., Scene 1 and Scene 2.
I have created one nested button i.e., button inside the movieClip and one normal button as in the following code.
ActionScript Code:
jan_btn.onPress = function() {
gotoAndStop("Scene 2", 1);

The problem is the first button jan_btn works and it goes to Scene 2 when it is clicked. But the second nested one i.e., button inside the scroll_mc movieClip is not working.
I have kept jan to dec buttons inside scroll_mc movieclip (it will scroll) and kept on stage.
Why nested button i.e., button inside movie clip is not going to Scene 2 when it is clicked?

I have a straight forward flash document where the play head plays from start to finish. The client wants a way to stop and start the animation if time is needed to discuss what is happening on screen. Simple buttons can easily do this if those buttons are not nested.

The garage door has a chevrolet logo on it that is pulsating. I know how to make buttons but I need the garage door to become a button that when clicked the animation plays rather than it playing automatically.The top of the tool chest will be a button that plays the animation in reverse and the drawers are buttons that open to an email form for each. But I don't know how to target these buttons because they are nested two levels below the main timeline.

All the movieclips are nested with the actionscript saved in a seperate file so the stage is empty. As I am new to as3 I don't know how to add buttons to which will then open other nested movieclips. I have looked at various tutorials but none cover exactly this issue.Otherwise if someone could maybe create a mc button and movieclip and add it to this file along with the relevant actionscript that would be really appreciated as I would have an example to refer to.
