Actionscript 3 :: Dynamically Insert Object / Array Info In A Dynamic Textfield?

Jan 25, 2012

I have a load of objects with arrays in them.

var tabData0: Object = new Object();
tabData0.tab1 = new Object();
tabData0.tab1.names = new Array();

[Code]....

I want to combine this output with a few more to refer to my object / array. The remoteHolder contains the value I need to know which object (tabData0, tabData1, etc) to retrieve the info from.

tabHolder['btn' + i].titleHolder.titleField.htmlText = all['tab' + tab].names[(i-1)];

But get this:

ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property tab1 not found on String and there is no default value.

Apr 24, 2009

I searched the forums and couldn't find anything relevant to my issue.I'm creating 3 textfields and loading XML into them. What i need is to add a "label" before each textfield on the stage. For instance i'm pulling a city name from the XML file,i want to insert the word, "Location" on the stage before the textfield with the city's name in it. Here's a snippet from my code where i'm loading one of the variables into one of the dynamic textfields.

Code:
var where:TextField = new TextField();
where.text = eventsXML.Event[0].City;
where.x = 85;
where.y = 81;

I want it to appear on the stage as: Location: Sydney, Australia

Actionscript 3 :: Dynamically Add Content From An Array And A Multidimensional Array To A Textfield?

Feb 15, 2012

I am working on an interactive quiz type game using arrays and multidimensional arrays.

I am trying to make a dynamic textfield say "the current question" + "Sorry, the correct answer is..." + "the second answer in the first string of answers in the array".

I think I am pretty close, but there is an error in the syntax.

Here is the line of code where I try to do this:

questionHolder.question.text=(String (cat4Questions[0]) + "Sorry, the correct answer is "+ String (cat4Answers[0,2]));

I am getting this error:

VerifyError: Error #1030: Stack depth is unbalanced. 1 != 0.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Slideshow - Loading Images Using XML Info From Array

May 25, 2009

I've constructed a dynamic slideshow using ActionScript 2.0 and PHP/MySQL. The reason for this, aside from update purposes, is that the slideshow will eventually display over 200 images. Thus, to save loading time and bandwidth, I decided to use PHP to pull ten images from an SQL database, formatting the output in XML. The slideshow itself works fine. Unfortunately, there are a couple of issues I need to address; my ActionScript is extremely rusty, so much of my work's patchy.

The code's displayed below:
import mx.transitions.Tween;
import mx.transitions.easing.*;
var myShowXML = new XML();
myShowXML.ignoreWhite = true;
myShowXML.load("getData.php");
[Code] .....

The code in red is my main focus. It's the loop which loads all images as movie clips using the XML information from an array. The loop loads all of the images, making them transparent before the presentation begins. What I would like to do instead, to save loading time, is to load the next image while the current one is displaying. The function "moveSlide" controls the transition of the images, so I'd imaging it'd be best to plade it in there.

There's already an incremental variable being used, with _root.target_mc, for removing transparency from the current slide. The code in blue is also nagging me quite severely. I retrieve the next chain of slides by simply contacting the PHP script again. The only way I could think of doing that was to refresh the slideshow (this is done COMPLETELY in ActionScript, with nothing on the stage). Unfortunately, I could only work out how to reload the whole video.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create Object And Insert Them In An Array, For Moving Them Across The Screen?

Sep 3, 2010

I'm trying to create object and insert them in an array, for moving them across the screen. I'm trying to use the attachMovie for this task:

attachMovie("MyObject",arrayVal[counter],1);
the problem is that the second parameter must come in "" like
attachMovie("MyObject","arrayVal[counter]",1);

So, as you can see, i'm not able to tell which number comes on the "counter" variable

arrayVal[0]
arrayVal[1]
...

and i'm not able to use it latter:

arrayVal[0]._x++;
...

How is this usually done? (i'm a as3 developer, so i'm stuck here)

ActionScript 2.0 :: Array Output Into Dynamic TextField

Nov 1, 2007

So an array walks into a dynamic text field and says. I have an array that I am trying to output into a dynamic text field via this function:

Code:
Barcelona = ["Barcelona:", "Apple", "25 - ", "2"];
Output_Array = function(array_name) {
for(i=0; i<array_name.length; i++) {
output_txt.text += array_name[i]
output_txt.text += " "
}}

It outputs the array just fine, but what I want to do is add in a line break here and there to make it more beautiful. In the dynamic text field properties there is an option for "Render text as HTML". With the option checked I tried adding in <br> and/or <p> HTML tags but all it does is prints out the "<br>" instead of making a new line. (I also have the text field set to Multiline.) Is there anyway to get it to have a line break?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Name Dynamic Textfield On A New Object?

Apr 28, 2010

I have a symbol called Score which has 1 static textfield and 1 dynamic textfield called scoreDisplay. Instead of dragging the symbol into the FLA and naming the symbol right there I want to add it as an object instead.

When I add it through the FLA and try to update the score in the textfield everything works, but I don't get it to work using AS.

So, is there any way to name an object that you create by using addChild in the same way you name it when you drag it into the FLA?

I need to put ALL that information into a dynamic text? what I am getting now is only the last entry.( Example myItemList[2], but no myItemList[1] or myItemList[0] ) here is the code:

Another option would be to take all this info and put it into 1 variable or something, but I'm not sure how to do that either.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Apply Basic Text Formatting To TextField / XML Loaded Info?

Mar 8, 2010

I'm workin' on a cool project for school. I'm loading up some text from an external XML doc, and bringing it in to a flash textField.

It's working great, but I want to do a little formatting, first off, apply a bold tag or a bold font to some headings.

Here's the .text field as I have it now:

Actionscript Code:
motorcycleInfo.text = "Make: " + bikeMaker[evt.target.selectedIndex] + "
" + "MSRP: " + bikeCost[evt.target.selectedIndex] + "
" + "Ride Category: " + bikeCategory[evt.target.selectedIndex] + "
" + "Engine Size:

[Code]....

(ps I finally figured out how to wire up my mp3's so they play, and pause, I just haven't loaded that swf up to my server... so if you press the music buttons and they don't play, that's the reason.)
