Actionscript 3 :: Access Class From Embedded Swf?
Sep 2, 2011
I am trying to get an instance of a specific class from an embedded swf, it so happens the class I need is also the Default Application extending Sprite for the swf. I am able to do this successfully if I load the swf however I want to embed it instead.The class I want to load is also extending a custom interface. Here is what I have tried but is not working:
[Embed(source="resources/MySwf.swf")]
private var MySwf:Class;
private function someFunction() : void
[code].....

I'm building a Flex project with a lot of embedded bitmaps and such. The usual method for getting to the bitmaps in Actionscript seems to be to do something like
[Bindable] [Embed(source = '../lib/WhiteFencePost.png')]
private static var clsObstacleFencePost : Class;
var bitmap : BitmapAsset = new clsObstacleFencePost();
I've already got several dozen of these things, and I can easily see ending up with hundreds of them by the time the project's done. Is there some way that I can avoid creating a Class for every bitmap?

I'd like to gain read only access to the following parameters of embedded Flash videos located on sites that I do not own through my own custom browser extension/add-on:
Time location of playback head (so I can display the current time in the browser extension via HTML5/JavaScript) Frames (so I can make capture them to an image file, save it and display image in browser extension) Original Dimensions in pixels (so I can display the original video dimensions via JS/HTML5 in browser extension)
Is this possible by using Javascript and HTML5 from a browser extension?
Would I have to use something like the SWFObject Javascript API [URL]

I'm using SWFKit to create a native windows app from flash project. I want to embed video in project via SWFKit and then use it in flash.
Looks like I've found a way to embed external file but I can't find manual about how to access this embedded file via ActionScript in flash movie.
So the question is how can I access file "bridge.flv" in compiled project using ActionScript?

I'm trying to embed an SWF in my ActionScript project (Flash Builder 4.5). I need to have access to variables inside that SWF, but for some reason, embedding it strips it from all scripts.The solution I found on the web was to embed it like this:
ActionScript Code:
[Embed(source="sprites.swf", mimeType="application/octet-stream")]
private var Sprites:Class;

We're planning on allowing others to embed our custom player swf (which play the projects we produce) on their site/blog/etc with embed code, but want to maintain enough control to blacklist certain sites that use our projects unfairly or in violation of our terms.What's the best way to block certain sites from embedding our swf? We had an idea of attaching a unique ID with each embed code and then having the player make a call to our site to check a list to see if that ID is blocked or not....but that's easy to bypass, and wouldn't it be easier to just dump the blocked sites into an .htaccess of httpd.conf file with some mod_rewrite trickery?

Have any of you guys attempted to embed a library SWF and access the classes as it was an externally loaded SWF? If so, how is it done? In an effort to make my game into a single SWF, I have no other option than to embed my external library SWF's, the simplest of which is just an SWF full of images in the library. My normal method is this

I have to call an ActionScript method via Javascript, but I have a problem accessing the flash object itself. I embed the flash file via the help of swfobject.
Previously, when I use the static publishing approach, I could easily get the flash object by calling these methods:
swfobject.registerObject("flash_object", "9", "expressInstall.swf");
var flash_object = swfobject.getObjectById("flash_object");
For some technical reasons, now I have to use the dynamic publishing approach (using swfobject.embedSWF). But, as mentioned in the documentation, the method getObjectById can only be used if you use static publishing approach.
Now, how can I access the flash object?

If I have three classes:
public class Example {
public function Example () {
}[code]............
You can see that the two last classes extend the first one, and both have the 'variable' property. In case that I have an instance of Example and I am sure it is also an ExtendedExample OR AnotherExtendedExample instance, is there some way to access the 'variable' property? Something like
function functionThatReceivesAnExtendedExample (ex:Example):void {
if(some condition that I may need) {
ex.func()

I have a initApp.as which instantiates a class which needs to access the "currentState" property and the States array as well. However we cannot get this to work as we cannot see how we can access this information.
Within initApp.as currentState is accessed via "this.currentState". This does not work in the class which is instatiated within initApp.as. The following error is thrown:
"Access of undefined property currentState."

I have the following inheritance structure:
var environment:AvEnvironment = new AvEnvironment(...);
addChild(environment);
environment.addChild(new Terrain());
environment.addChild(new Player());
I am trying to access a public property from AvEniroments class through the Player class, however I'm getting an undefined property error (#119). I've tried the following:
this.x = AvEnvironment.xs // public property in this class
this.x = parent.xs
I've also tried something like this:
var ev:AvEnvironment = AvEnvironment(parent);
this.x = ev.xs
but I get a TypeError. Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

How to access a display object on the stage in a class which is not a document class?
I am looking for a solution that doesn't involve passing the stage as a parameter to the class.
One solution i always come across is using "TopLevel.as". Is it a good method because as far as I have heard using global variables is not recommended because it might cause some problems while working on big projects.

I was wondering how do you access the stage property from a different class that's not the principal class tied to the fla? Essentially, I have main.as which calls another class menu.as, and I can't seem to be able to use the stage.stageWidth property from menu.as. What's the proper way to be able to use the stage property from any class? Do I have to import it separately each time?

I'm just now learning the new object oriented way of scripting. It's been a wild ride, but I've finally learned how to keep script off my frames (very hard coming from as2).Here's my problem:
I have a TextField on the stage in my main .fla file named loadPercent.
I'm loading a jpg with preLoad.as and displaying the bytes loaded in loadPercent.
I can access my loadPercent TextField from my MainClass
but I can't access it from preLoad.as
the document class is MainClass.as
Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;[code]....
I get three '#1120 access of undefined propery' errors for each time i try to access loadPercent.
a few basic questions: 1. all my files are in a folder in my documents, not in the flash directory, is this bad? I've seen people using com.whatever etc.
2. my main .fla file does not share the same name as my MainClass.as (it's not named MainClass.fla) Is that a problem?
I'm assuming these are inconsequential because my code seems to work up to a certain point.

My first experience is build an aquarium with a lot of fish swimming, and they can be clicked. When one of them is clicked we should receive a trace message saying ("Im a Fish!"). To do this, I thought that the best way will be:
1- create a document class, named Main.as
2- create a base class, named Clicked.as
2- create a movie clip with a fish.
3- export the movieclip to actionscript. In the mc properties set Class as "fish" and Base Class as "Clicked".

i have a game that i want to put load screen on, which i created a separate class for. first the main class is initialized and in the constructor function, it does an addChild(loadScreen) which places an instance of the loadScreen MC on the stage. within the loadScreen is a "Play Button" that when a user presses this button i want it to continue startGame in the Main class. the way i tried it was Main.startGame from the loadScreen class, but that obviously does not work. is it possible to call a function from a different class.i have three files:
Main.fla
Main.as
loadScreen.as
the Main.as file:
Code:
package
{
import flash.text.*;
import flash.display.*;

[ Embed('Assests/ui/Main.swf', symbol='backgroundImage')]
private var background01:Class;
private function getBitmapData(className:String):BitmapData[code]....
I want to return bitmapData from a symbol that is embedded in a flash swf file. background01 is the class name exported to as3 in the flash swf file. As you can see from above I'm finding the swf with no problem. and I'm pullin the data back from the swf file with no prob. I can type addChild(new background01) and the image will show up. But when I've tried to cast to a bitmap , bitmapasset and movieclip. It always returns null. I want to get access to the bitmapdata of this image/movieclip. It should be returning a vertex circle drawn in flash and created to be a movieclip symbol. So what I would expect to be returned would be a MovieClip.

I have a flash project that consists of a container swf with a navigation menu that loads other swf files into a container movieclip. One clip that is loaded uses the tween class to daisy-chain together an introduction animation. It works fine the first time it is run, but if the user selects another section and then goes back to the introduction section, the tweens from the last instance of the introduction swf continue to run as well as the new ones. It seems that flash is running two instances of the same tween, even though they exist in the exact same path.
So far, I have tried unloading the each swf before loading a new one, calling removeMovieClip() and on the container clip, and then dynamically making a new container clip each time a new section is selected, and setting all of the tweens in the intro as _global variables, in hopes that they would overwrite the previous tweens. I've tried rewinding each tween and deleting them before starting a new instance of the intro animation, to no avail.

If you import fonts as symbols into the Library in Flash's IDE, are those font symbols available only to the document class, or can they be used by other classes? Do those other classes need to be passed a reference to it? Question Two: This seems to be standard way to embed fonts into a class:
[Code]...
Often embeding fonts using the above method doesn't work. I've done lots and lots (and lots!!) of testing and the transcoder is very picky about which fonts it finds acceptable. It really likes .otf fonts but often not .ttf I found out that there are 3 different font managers used to transcode fonts, and although the correct one is supposed to be selected automatically, this doesn't always happen.
[URL] The solution to this in Flex is to add this additional compiler argument: -managers=flash.fonts.AFEFontManager My question is, does anyone out there know how to force the AFEF font manager in the Flash IDE?
