View 9 RepliesI'd like to gain read only access to the following parameters of embedded Flash videos located on sites that I do not own through my own custom browser extension/add-on:
Time location of playback head (so I can display the current time in the browser extension via HTML5/JavaScript) Frames (so I can make capture them to an image file, save it and display image in browser extension) Original Dimensions in pixels (so I can display the original video dimensions via JS/HTML5 in browser extension)
Is this possible by using Javascript and HTML5 from a browser extension?
Would I have to use something like the SWFObject Javascript API [URL]
So, you have a sprite, you draw some graphics, you set cacheasbitmap=true... I can't seem to access the newly created bitmap data, to access the dispose() method.

I would like to change the parameters of an object, or values like width and height, via javascript but I need a very lightweight method. In the end some of the thing that I want to change would be width, height and a parameters src value. So far I'm having no luck of getting it by id $('#test').attr('src','test.html') or the javascript method of getElementById().
What is the best - lightweight - method to do this?
An object being like this:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="600" height="500" data="http://www.thisembed.com" style="margin:0px;padding:0px">

i have a weird problem when using fonts embedded in the Library. in a random way, the compiler (Strict Mode) shows the error: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method menuItems. where menuItems is one of the embedded fonts. if i close Flash and try again the same message but the error could point to another font

I'm using SWFKit to create a native windows app from flash project. I want to embed video in project via SWFKit and then use it in flash.
Looks like I've found a way to embed external file but I can't find manual about how to access this embedded file via ActionScript in flash movie.
So the question is how can I access file "bridge.flv" in compiled project using ActionScript?
I am trying to get an instance of a specific class from an embedded swf, it so happens the class I need is also the Default Application extending Sprite for the swf. I am able to do this successfully if I load the swf however I want to embed it instead.The class I want to load is also extending a custom interface. Here is what I have tried but is not working:
[Embed(source="resources/MySwf.swf")]
private var MySwf:Class;
private function someFunction() : void

I'm trying to embed an SWF in my ActionScript project (Flash Builder 4.5). I need to have access to variables inside that SWF, but for some reason, embedding it strips it from all scripts.The solution I found on the web was to embed it like this:
ActionScript Code:
[Embed(source="sprites.swf", mimeType="application/octet-stream")]
private var Sprites:Class;

We're planning on allowing others to embed our custom player swf (which play the projects we produce) on their site/blog/etc with embed code, but want to maintain enough control to blacklist certain sites that use our projects unfairly or in violation of our terms.What's the best way to block certain sites from embedding our swf? We had an idea of attaching a unique ID with each embed code and then having the player make a call to our site to check a list to see if that ID is blocked or not....but that's easy to bypass, and wouldn't it be easier to just dump the blocked sites into an .htaccess of httpd.conf file with some mod_rewrite trickery?
View 2 RepliesHave any of you guys attempted to embed a library SWF and access the classes as it was an externally loaded SWF? If so, how is it done? In an effort to make my game into a single SWF, I have no other option than to embed my external library SWF's, the simplest of which is just an SWF full of images in the library. My normal method is this

View 1 RepliesI have to call an ActionScript method via Javascript, but I have a problem accessing the flash object itself. I embed the flash file via the help of swfobject.
Previously, when I use the static publishing approach, I could easily get the flash object by calling these methods:
swfobject.registerObject("flash_object", "9", "expressInstall.swf");
var flash_object = swfobject.getObjectById("flash_object");
For some technical reasons, now I have to use the dynamic publishing approach (using swfobject.embedSWF). But, as mentioned in the documentation, the method getObjectById can only be used if you use static publishing approach.
Now, how can I access the flash object?
Here's the context of the problem, in which I will try to include as much information as possible while keeping the explanation brief.
I am trying to make a portfolio website (architectural design + concept art). Flash / programing are not my focus and this is my first go at learning the software. Due to the nature of the content and my (lack) of ability in AS3, I want the the coding to be really simple and still let the site look good. The way the site is currently structured:
1) Basic menu buttons that navigate to sections of the site (brings up a new page).
2) Example, clicking on <Graphics> takes you to a new page and a sub-menu animates in (simple motion tween for the buttons to cascade down). This animation is a movie clip placed on the main timeline.
3) On the screen is also a slideshow for all the images within <Graphics>.Instead of multiple small slideshows, I combined them all into one, so as to avoid complications with add / remove from stage. There are prev / next buttons that keep images within their sub section (ie 1->2->3->1). The sub-menu buttons are suppose to link to the start of each sub section, much like chapters on a DVD. (The slideshow is a movieclip sub-nested in the menu movieclip).
I have hit a brick wall after trying almost every example I have come accross.In a nutshell I have a Flex parent which is embedding a Flash SWF file which has a Method which needs to be accessed from Flex.[code]I have tried strong typing the SWFLoader as a MovieClip to gain control of it but have had no luck.[code]Essentially all I need to do is reset/reload the Flash SWF when the mx:State changes.

I've got on main timeline (on frame 10) buttons, when I click one of them it goes to its currentLabel"". On curerntLabel at frame20 "racerButton" where I've got some tweening. At currentLabel "boardButton" at frame30 I load external swf.The problem I've got is when I press any button everything works fine. But when I first press button "boardButton" at frame30 the ext.swf shows up fine, but when next I click the button"racerButton" at frame20 the tweening doesn't work there and it gives me error.[code]when I press any button everything works fine except from bordButton to racerButton

I'm building a Flex project with a lot of embedded bitmaps and such. The usual method for getting to the bitmaps in Actionscript seems to be to do something like
[Bindable] [Embed(source = '../lib/WhiteFencePost.png')]
private static var clsObstacleFencePost : Class;
var bitmap : BitmapAsset = new clsObstacleFencePost();
I've already got several dozen of these things, and I can easily see ending up with hundreds of them by the time the project's done. Is there some way that I can avoid creating a Class for every bitmap?

I have an object on my stage, called obj.I also have a class called "Physics" which contains a bunch of methods for physics, such as inertia, gravity, and bouncing off walls. In order to do some of these,I need access to the stage.stageWidth and stageHeight properties.My code is as follows:
public function wallBounce(obj)
{
this.stageRef = stageRef[code]...
This is supposed to check if the object's x value is greater than the stageWidth or less than 0. When I run this code it says:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
I am a semi-newbie programmer who is completely self-taught and have no clue what is causing this. I spent a bit googling it, and I think it has something to do with scopes,.
I want to create an array of strings in a text class that I can access with the main document class. Then I'll be able to populate a text field with items in the array. The purpose of this is to avoid having massive lines of text in my main document... but I can't even get my test to work. The compiler is telling me that the array (txt1) is undefined. First here's my code for the array:

ActionScript Code:
var appDomainA:ApplicationDomain = new ApplicationDomain();

What I want to be able to do:
- click a guy to select him
- click an adjacent tile
- move selected guy to clicked tile
The way I've coded it, each instance of a guy class has a mouse even listener on him which listens for a click. When clicked, I find out the tile underneath him, and the surrounding tiles. So far, so good.
When clicked, the guy calls a method in the tile class, like tile.onClick, which tries to say: get this tile, and send it back to a method in the guy class, like moveGuy. Then moveGuy moves the guy to the tile it was told.
Problem:
From the guy class, I call a method in the tile class. To communicate between classes, the tile class method onClick must be static. But if it's static, the method can't refer to "this", because it's a method in the class only, not on each instance of tile. But I need to know which tile was clicked, and send that reference to the guy so he knows where to go.
How do you access a method from outside its class so that the method can refer to "this" instance? OR, how do I find out which tile was clicked without needing any code on each tile instance? OR... how else can this problem be solved?
