Actionscript 3 :: Add And Remove EventListeners With Dynamic Name And Dynamic Variables?
Jan 14, 2010
picture: [URL].. I am making a boardgame in flash Action Script 3 each position on the board is a buttons like this: button_1_1, button_1_2 etc. Whenever a character is selected you want to move it so the script has to add event listeners for positions around the selected unit
[Code]...
In the rest of the code I have:
function userClickedPosition(position_x:int, position_y:int) it selects or deselect a unit function selectUnit(position_x:int, position_y:int):it uses the listentoButton(1) function to add 8 listeners (the positions around the clicked unit)function deselectUnit(position_x:int, position_y:int): it uses the listentoButton(0) function to delete 8 listeners (the positions around the clicked unit)
My question: adding eventlisteners is no problem but removing them dont seem to work? What did I do wrong?
I am creating a small image gallery and I am creating the actual images dynamically. The images are stored via json and I am listing them underneath each other. No I can get all to work and they all load and position each other correctly underneath. What I would like to do is assign each image a addEventListener so that when clicked they pass the necessary details onto another function which will then display a larger image simple and basic but I am having trouble with adding the eventlistener. each one gets an eventlistener to it but when clicking on each one they all show the details from the last one. The code is attached to the main gallery container is as follows:
I have a mc (changeColorMc) and three movieclips. The three movieclips are created on the fly (so there could be more movieclips) and filled with a color from an Array. This works fine.
Now I want to add an eventlistener for each movieclip, so when someone push one of the movieclips the movieclip with the name "changeColorMc" gets that same color from the colorArray.
My question is: How can I pass the color value from the colorArray to the buttonPressed function? Is this possible?
I was also thinking that I had to create three buttonPressed functions ie. buttonPressed1, buttonPressed2 and buttonPressed3 and attach these to the created movieclips.. but how? Because I don't know up front how many movieclips there will be..
Let's say I have a global SoundChannel object, and inside a function I am repeatedly creating new instances of the Sound object to play songs one after the other. Each time I do this, I need to add a new eventListener to the SoundChannel to call the function 'onSoundComplete' that will load the next song on completion.Coming from a strict C++ programming background, I often wonder if it's necessary to do some kind of cleanup in Flash, or if it handles it automagically.Here's example code that specifically removes the eventListener from the previous Sound object everytime a new one is created, but I don't want to be doing this if it isn't necessary:
Code: // Setup sound object buffer var slc:SoundLoaderContext = new SoundLoaderContext(3000);
I have images loading from an array. A slideshow. This works fine, but they pile on top of each other. I cannot figure out how to remove them. what's the simplest way to remove them? How do I say - if pic1 is loaded, before loading pic2, remove pic1?
Code:
var aPics:Array=new Array("pic1.jpg","pic2.jpg","pic3.jpg","pic4.jpg","pic5.jpg"); var threeSeconds:Timer=new Timer(3000,aPics.length); threeSeconds.start();
I have a menu with buttons on the stage that when clicked load external swf but the problem, although i can remove them from the stage, is that they are still playing which gives my site performance problems. I gave weak references to the Event Listeners but i didnt remove them.Heres the code:
I have a problem. I have a MovieClip that has a script. The MovieClip has an object inside of it. The script is for when I press the left and right arrow keys, the objects inside the MovieClip change. This MovieClip is placed on the stage.
I have a button on the stage, when its pressed, the MovieClip mentioned above is removed.
Once its remove, I press the left and right arrow keys and I revive errors in the output saying; the eventlisteners are still there but the objects gone, error.
I am wondering how I can either remove the event listeners in a MovieClip from the stage and/or how to acess variables and EventListners in a MovieClip from the stage.
I'm trying to remove an EventListener after I click on a button. The thing is that I have the AS calling a movieclip, which is calling a box to appear on the stage. The code that I have works, but if you keep clicking on that same button more than once more boxes keep appearing one on top of the other one, so what i need is to remove the listener when you click on the button ones, but if i click on a different button to activate the listener again so that i can click on that same button again and make the box appear. so here's what i got so far:
function Main() { // Adding mouse event to our stage! b1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, AddBox); }
i need to attach an event listener, and have its handler have a variable passed into it ..this possible?
Code: mc.addEventListener(Mouse.Event.ROLL_OVER, over(obj) ); function(e:MouseEvent,obj:Object):void{ e.removeEventListener(....); trace(obj); } .. sommint like that .. as3 says function is static, missing argument etc .. there may be other ways about it - but it is crucial to my setup, as when the EL is added, the object passed is only obtainable at that point.
I've created an XML thumbnail gallery, and would dearly love to add a simple looping preloader animation to each of the thumbnails whilst they are still loading. I'm struggling to remove the preloader movieclip, once the corresponding image has been loaded.
I'm currently creating the new movieclips within the loop, so I'm having problems referencing them in the following load complete function. I gave naming the "spin_loader" instances a go (i.e. spin_loader.name = "spin" + i), and then trying to remove it in the "thumbLoaded" function ( i.e. project_mc.removeChild(getChildByName("spin" + spinNum)), where spinNum is the equivalent number to "i"), but I just can't seem to crack it.
Code:
function createThumbs() { for (var i:Number = 0; i<my_total_project; i++)
So far I have this squid-shaped MC floating and making bubble-shaped MCs which rise to the top of the stage. The bubbles get generated by following the squid's (x,y) cordinates. The whole thing looks convincing enough. The only problem is that as the memory gets full, the bubble animation degenerates, so I want to remove them once they reach the top. I figured I could use a removeChild() function tied to the same EventListner that makes them rise, but once removed it will look for the object again and throw an error. I know I'm missing something simple here, but I can't pin it down.!
Code: var bubbleTimer:Timer=new Timer(1200); var i:uint = 0;
I have a for-loop that creates instances / duplicates of a movie clip that works like a charm:
[Code]...
Then I position each instance- and I fill an array with the number ("pg"), because: I also have the option to switch to a different view and at that point I want / need the MoveClips to disappear. So I have a function tied to the switching that goes through a loop for all instances of the movieclip copies (using the array with the IDs from the example above) and remove them.
I can't seem to make this clip disappear. I've tried calling it from it's parent object and also tried putting this.removeMovieClip(); inside the clip itself, but it just won't go. I don't have the same problem with other clips in the movie. This is the only one that has a dynamic text field, but I don't see why that would make a dif.
Would anyone be kind enough to help me with some Actionscript code (2.0) that will automatically remove from dynamically imported html text. Basically an html page is updated by a client using a CMS system (CushyCMS) but it inserts.When the page reloads into the flash site the cause the text to break.So I would like something that either removes the or changes it to a single space that won't cause the line to break.
I'm not even sure if the title reflects what I want to do. Here's backstory. I have a movieclip with 5 'holder' movieclips in them. They are my containers for dynamically added movieclips. The parent containers has an instance name of pyramid, the holder instance names are labeled after the 6 food groups, i.e., 'grainholder', 'fruitholder', 'vegetableholder', etc etc...The holders are within the pyramid container, instance names as above, and the pyramid container is added to the display list. I have a addFoodToPyramid() function which adds 'foodMC' mc's to their respective holders. So an [object Apple] will be dynamically added by way of pyramid.fruitholder.addChild(Apple). The function also adds a listener. Heres the call and the function:The call (I will use grains as example) is this:
addFoodToPyramid(grainArray, grainHolder, grainCounter); And the function is: function addFoodToPyramid(thisArray:Array, thisHolder:MovieClip, thisCounter:Number):void
Im currently creating textfields in a for loop - though in this example only creating one TextField. My questions is, how do I remove the TextField child in another function? What im basically doing is, create a Textfield, addchild to a container - > then the container into another position - > then removechild and another text in the container. I've tried something like:
I'm importing an rss feed in as3 and the xml is formatted with html tags that are making the feeds that I'm puling in format weird. My main problem is break tags that are entered in by the companies system. i'm not going to be able to take them out so my question is, is there a way to single them out in the xml through as3? and Delete them? Or render them useless?[code]...
Code: function myFunction(val0,val1,val2){ trace(this["val"+0); trace(this["val"+1); trace(this["val"+2); } myFunction("hello","test","hi")
All i get is undefined. If i just put "trace(val0)" i will get "Hello" -- so i cannot work out how to get the value of the dynamic variable inside hte function?
How am i to get the variables zombData.zomb0, & zombData.zomb1 from inside the "for loop"
I want this trace command dynamic
Quote: trace(zombData.zomb+i);
it works when i put zombData.zomb0 (a variable sent from a PHP script)but if i want to make it dynamic how it is; It fails & outputs NaN How do i make it dynamic for the loop?[code]...
I am trying to make this class remove a dynamic Movieclip that was attached on the mainstage using attachMovie(); it wont let me remove the movieclip tho
here is my code
Code: class close_btn extends MovieClip { function onPress () : Void
I am trying to create dynamic variables.I read a file where I have this strings: building, restaurant and hotel.Then, will load them like
X = building. Y = restaurant Z = hotel.
Now I want to create variables like: building = 123; restaurant = "abc"; hotel = 2.5; So on how to use the value (building, restaurant, hotel) on naming or creating variables to use them later?
eval() is a usefull method or function in javascript.. Because we may define our variables via dynamic way..! There are following code is for understanding that how can define dynamic defining variables in javascript.. And Are there a dynamic way for evaluting variables in as3 like following javascript code?[code]
I've been working in a new proyect and i came to this problem that is really getting me tired. I'm supposed to make a given number of items (constructed from an extended Sprite)[code]...
i've been trying to make stock program in flash. i searched if i could use database with as3 but i did not find any. than i created Objects in as3 and give them all their detail.
[Code]...
most annoying thing for me is as3 does not allow dynamic variables (i've searched a lot but could not find, and i dont think arrays can be used by the way). this is the whole plan. how it can be filtered (categorised)?
AS3 newbie here finally trying to make the transition from AS2. I have a little application that I am trying to build which has some basic math in it based on user input. I have the numbers stored in dynamic text boxes and now I need to have the results shown after the user hits submit.
I have this code on the results page frame.
ActionScript Code: var resultsmin:Number = Math.round((Number(devsize.text))*(Number(typemin.text))); var resultsmax:Number = Math.round((Number(devsize.text))*(Number(typemax.text)));
This probably wasn't even the best way to do it in AS2 but it worked, now in AS3 it doesn't. Something to do with the way var is used now?
