I do however have a problem.. I want the site (SWF) to scale according to browser size.But, I want to implement a maximum and minimum width and height.
I dont want it to scale so that it is bigger than my stage size (1365px x 845px), and I dont want it to scale so that it can be smaller than for instance (800px x 600x). And I also want the SWF to be centered at all times.

You'll notice that the pictures will shrink, but won't scale above their obvious 100% size. I tried looking at the page source, but I didnt understand much. Looks like they have used Actionscript for the resizing/aligning.
I'm building a photographer's gallery website and I need it to resize to fit in browser window. So far so easy...What I would really like to achieve is a maximum and minimum size that the gallery will go to.
So, if the images I am using are 1400x1000 (for example) when this size is reached by the user expanding the browser window i don't want the gallery to expand any more, just sit in the middle of the page.
Similarly I don't want the gallery to go below say 800x600... how to set a max/min?
I am showing a stacked bar chart with Flex, and I am dynamically changing the data of the dataprovider. However, the minimum and maximum for the y-axis do not get reset with the new data. So if one dataset had a value of -100,000, but the next dataset has only positive values, the y-axis still starts at -100,000. How can I force the chart to redraw. I tried myChart.validateNow(), dataprovider.refresh(), etc.

I have a really basic question using the pen tool in Flash. Is there a minimum amount of segments (or something that I'm not doing) that need to be drawn in order to close a polygon shape created with the pen tool. I've found in many instances I seem to be closing the polygon and yet when I go to fill the object it won't fill. I then discover that the beginning and end points are not "joined" together (as in Illustrator).

I'm having a little difficulty getting to grips with the getBounds() Movie Clip function. I assumed the getbounds() method simply got the boundary coordinates for the movie Clip, that one could use to draw a rectangle. This is what I'm trying to do;I'm trying to get a movie clips coordinate bounds, and use the min and max values of x and y to draw rectangle around the object. Simple right? But in my case, I'm getting some unexpected results. I wonder does ther registration point of the object determine the coordinate values? Also are the coordinate values local to the clip instance or global to the stage?

View 1 RepliesI'm working in Actionscript 3, but this is pretty general.I'd like to make a simple function that I can call, e.g. GiveCords(Width, Height, Num) that will take a width and height, map that out and using the Num variable place the given amount evenly across the space.Say I give it a value of 500, 500, 1. I'd expect it to return an X, Y position of 250, 250.But I'd like it to return an array of given points with X, Y.So If I gave it 10 points, it would find the best position for them all to be of even distance apart from each other.
View 1 RepliesI've been doing some rapid prototyping for a game I'm thinking of building. one of the main things i want to do is map generation for a tile type map. While generating the map i end up using large amounts of ram. I'm building the map as an array of random integers for my test. When i try to generate maps of a large scale flash gives me the out of memory error:
Error: Error #1000: The system is out of memory.
I've already figured i could write to a file instead, to solve that problem. but does anybody know the actual maximum size? I've tried searching around to no avail.Activity monitor reports that ADL is using around 500MB "real memory" and around 700MB "virtual memory". The System.privateMemory property seems to match the "real memory" value.as a side note i'm developing in OSX Snow Leopard (64) with 8gb ram

When i run this script from a browser, stand-alone debugger or AIR i get roughly the same memory usage readouts (which i know vary anyway). What is constant however is the final length of the byte array:
Browser (Firefox): TM: 540413952 FM: 19116032 PM: 562573312 BALENGTH: 13421778
Stand-alone: TM: 540577792 FM: 1810432 PM: 545361920 BALENGTH: 134217728

My testing methods might not be perfect, though i dont know how to do deeper profiling.
After researching the topic a bit more I was wondering why Kirupa uses a loop to return this value when you can simply use Array.sort and slice out the last (or first if reversed) elements.For all of you out there looking to do this not only for the max value but the top values (as many as you like until the end of the array) here is a simpler method:

And, instead of just putting a text under this textfield saying 'max. 50 characters', I want to have a countdown that counts down (wow, some descriptions really do speak for themselves) from 50 (the maximum of input characters) to 0, in accordance of the characters in the textfield.

View 2 RepliesI have a spark skinnable component which contains a datagroup with images. The datagroup is scrolled by hovering the mouse over it. Everything works fine except one thing: after I change the datagroup provider, I need to scroll down automatically. The problem is the images are not loaded immediately after I set the provider so (contentHeight - height) does not yet represent the actual maximum scrolling position. Is there an easy way of telling the datagroup to scroll down as its content loads? Because the workaround seems to be not so straightforward. A have a big chunk of dynamic text (from a db). From this text i am making a .pdf. So i would like to limit the amount of outputted text as a page can run out of space.
I have tried to do it with search and replace. But the problem is that it counts only characters instead of characters in combination with whitespace and the number of lines.
There is space for 100 characters/spaces on each line, and a total of 38 lines on one page.
So i am thinking of something like this: * count all new lines represented by
* count all characters/whitespaces dived to the number of lines to check if this fits the number of (as it uses wordwap)
Anyone with bright ideas on how to approach this?
(btw. TextField.maxChars will not work as it's dynamic text...)
I have a pendulum that swings infinitely. I'd like to set the maximum angle to a random amount to give it a sort of "blown by a random wind" effect. I'm not great at code, so I can't figure out how to randomize "maxAngle" without making the animation jerky. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this? Here is my code and FLA...

I have text from an RSS feed parsed using AS3 and displayed on the stage in a few dynamic text fields. Some of the text is too long and I would like to limit the text in the field to "x" amount of characters and insert an ellipses (...) character when that

You can see it at: URL...[code]I encoded the video at a high rate so that it would download slowly. It may not playback smoothly, which I am not concerned about. What I am concerned about is the numbers below the video what are derived from ns.bytesLoaded and ns.time. If you watch it for a bit, the amount played should exceed the amount loaded.
I double checked the video duration and the bytestotal that flash is reporting and they are correct. I don't know of any way to check the accuracy of bytesloaded.If your internet connection is super fast, you may not see the issue - it only occurs when it is playing back faster than it is downloading - if this is the case, you may need to throttle your speed down, or start downloading a large file while you are watching this demo in order to see the issue.But this is a serious issue and means that building custom video interfaces with loadbars and playheads is impossible!
I am having issue with my created flash, it can't handle chinese characters? is there some way i can handle this thru code? or should there be any font or language pack installed
View 3 Replies1) Each field in the form only allows 3 characters and no special characters such as @ _ ! . , etc... 2) When the user goes to the next field in the form, the previous field appears blank but the when clicking on that again, the original text appears. 3) When submitting the form, it just keeps saying "in progress" and never shows the confirmation text nor does the email get sent. There is an HTML file included with this form but I am not sure if I need to put that in as I have embedded this form into an SWF file so I don't think I need that code but let me know if I am wrong about this. I am posting both the AS code and PHP code below..
