What I want to do: -Have flash send a string (or number) from a website to a server running a C++ program -The C++ program will receive the data and do something with it -After that, the C++ program would send back a response -Flash would then accept the response My goal is to make a simple MMO, but I can't start it without a server program to handle the players. I don't need a super-complicated example, just something simple, kinda secure and coded in AS3 and C++.

Dec 21, 2009it seems that Flash was supposed to run in a sandbox in the browser. But, if Flash can get data from a remote server, can it similarly get data from localhost IP on the same machine? In other words, can I use a Windows app that provides a TCP socket on localhost to feed data into a Flash app?the answer is yes at least for the case of an SWF file hosted in the file system, URL...(turns out the localhost access error can be fixed if you add the SWF app to some security whitelist). Still wondering if this can also be done for SWF apps hosted on the network.

Jan 17, 2006 I have a PHP mailer form on my site which needs to be published in action script2 to work, but I also have a script set up to open browser windows of a certain size & location which needs actionscript 1 to work? The PHP mailer form has a "Name" field, "Email" field & "Message" field, theses can all be reset with a button. The button clears off any text in the 3 boxes to wipe them clean. The script on the reset button is:

This works fine with section script 2 but not with as1. Does anyone know of a script that resets the .text field on as1 Alternatively is there any way of opening browser windows from a flash movie with browser win controls, eg. centre win, no scrollbars.

Feb 26, 2011I have got a page which lets me control some devices in a local network. However, some of the advanced settings can be set only using an .exe file which is located on the computer where I run the configuration page. I would like to have all the configurational tools "in one place" so it would be nice to have a kind of link/block/button/flash animation/whatever which - after being clicked by the user - would run a specified .exe file. I think that it is possible somehow, because I've seen MMO games which are launched using a webpage. I also suspect that html/javascript will not let me to do something like that, so maybe the answer is Flash?

Jan 28, 2010is there a way to speed up flash movies playing when put up on the web. I created a web banner and uploaded it, when I open the website on the browser the flash movie pauses for a few minutes and does not play straight away. Is there any actionscript that will ensure the flash movie will play instantly when on the web? Is it the file size that is causeing the swf to run slower? Is it anything to do with the publish settings in the fla file?

May 13, 2011I am developing a test as part of an e-learning module. The test has a timer on it, basically to dissuade users from looking up the answers online while doing the test.
I just realised however, that the framerate and timer are choked when a browser tab is invisible. In other words, when the user opens a new tab, the timer freezes! How can I get around this? The final product will run on an LMS, so going full-screen is not an option.

Jul 8, 2008This may sound like a strange request, but I need to be able to determine:
1. What browser domain the current swf is executing in (that is, the page that hosts the swf is displayed in a browser, what is the domain of the page)?
2. What server domain the SWF was loaded from (ie, what the URL domain was for the SWF)?
I believe both of these I can get via javascript and ugly workarounds and pass them in, but what I need is actually to get these values (at least #2) from inside the SWF without relying on the javascript in the hosting page.
Specifically, what I'm trying to determine is if the SWF is executing in a page from the same domain as it itself was hosted/loaded from. I want to fork on this test and create different behavior for a SWF if it's "hot-linked" (that is, loaded onto a page on a different domain from where I host it).
I've looked into flash.system.SecurityDomain and ApplicationDomain... both these have properties called 'currentDomain' which would seem to be the value i'm looking for (for #2), however this object is a static variable that I can't seem to get any information out of or transform into any kind of useful string that I can look at it's value and test with it.The only info I've found on either of those two classes all relates to passing them to LoaderContext and such, when you are loading external resources.I do not want to load anything, I just want to determine how and where the SWF is executing.
Flash :: Running Movie Backwards Automatically Then Loop Again?
Jan 21, 2010I'm SO new to scripting. I find it all a bit daunting I have a Flash movie that runs for about 300 frames, then I'd like it to run backwards once it's reached the last frame, then play again from the beginning, and loop from there.
So really forward end frame reverse loop play again (loop) Is there an easy way to script this? I think I can figure out the first frame, but what would one put at the last frame?

Nov 28, 2003I'm using very successfully the "loadVars.send()", using the POST method. BUT I did not expect to see a popup browser window!? I can shut it down using another javascript, but get a confirmation message (because I didn't open up that unwanted browser window using js)... Is there any way I can call a loadVars send without the popup browser window? I am using: myVars.send ("Aurora.php", "POST"); Using: myVars.send("Aurora.php", "_blank", "POST"); or myVars.send ("Aurora.php", "", "POST"); gets me the same pop up window.
