[code]I've marked two locations where this fails in the function pause(). I'm new to Flex/Actionscript/Flash. From what the error says, I assume that from the function, I cannot clea/remove the child loader, because it has a different parent. If I am correct with that, how do I know what the parent is?[code]
i successfully managed to work out the loader script, and load a external swf file into my current project. Now that its working and all is well, i realised that only way to get back to 'main menu' was to close the whole thing. I tried to sort it out with a simple 'back' button but no success there. As mentioned in the title thats the options i found so far but cant seem to quite understand them tbh. I just want it to work so that I easily can manouvre back to 'main menu'.
Within the main timeline I have a menu, which is a MovieClip. This menu is comprised of about 17 "buttons", each of which point to a different section of the site. When a "button" is clicked (2 examples: menu_bag_button, menu_trashbag_button), the menu will animate, moving left, and 2 library items (bag_container and close_btn) should appear to the right, both within "framecontainer".Then, while the menu is on the left, this specific button must not repeat the menu animation, thus I did an if statement finding which frame it is on, and if it's on the left, it simply clears the framecontainer and loads the content again.
The problem is that when another link is clicked, it needs to do one of two things: if the menu is in the center with no content loaded, it needs to animate the menu to the right, and load the content/close_btn into "framecontainer"; or, if the menu is on the left, it needs to clear "framecontainer" and load the corresponding content.I've tried a lot of things but since all of these buttons are within "menu_mc", the actionscript has to point to the root, THEN to"framecontainer" and everything gets convoluted.Here is my current code. It functions fine, except for the fact that it doesn't clear content, so it continues loading the frames so that one is closed, there is still other content behind it:
i'm new to AS3 and i was wondering what is the best way to remove a child at a point. i tried Holder.removeChild(Holder.getObjectsUnderPoint(new Point(exampleX, exampleY))[0]); however that returned ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.
I have an issue where removechild won't infact remove a child. I think its something to do with my dropTarget.parent issues. The concept of the code is that you drag a source onto a destination. When you drop the source onto the destination you will get a text field that says "Hello" or "Goodbye". The objective i want to achive is that once i drop a source onto the destination, removechild will remove any previouse textfields added. This is proving difficult.

so I have a movieclip on the stage(lets call that selection movieclip) that once a button is clicked is going to open another movieclip(call this slideshow) I am trying to remove the selection movieclip when you launch the slideshow movieclip.
the problem is that when i click on first button the Movie Clip does load ok but when i click on second button the first movie cliip is visible, i have try everything i have read here but no luck, i want to learn how to remove first child and allow only the second child to show up, i am looking forward to add more buttons so the remove child should be for multiple buttons, i am learning and so far did purchase a online tutorial but did not help me with this situation,

When the user clicks 'CANCEL' button, I want the error message tooltips if present to be cleared off from the screen. The message tool tips remains on the screen even if the CANCEL button is clicked.
when i do this it does remove the child BUT i get the old "The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller." business. How would i do this properly?????
i have As code with functions on frame 1-6 i want on frame 7 to have a clear code that will remove all the functions from frame 6. I need only the AS code to be cleared on frame 6 no where else... so the functions that are there no longer work in the rest of the animation.
I have a flash file with frame labels, home, profile, contact.it also has 4 separate photogalleries, gal1, gal2, gal3, gal4 also in frame labels. the galleries are all separate swf files. I used the UI loader and added gal1.swf and 3 more separate loaders for the rest of the galleries. What happens is after you select the first gallery the mouse becomes invisible because the loader is still on the stage. How do I remove the loader from the stage each time I use a button?

I'm working on a game whose background has many layers that each scroll at different speeds.
Inside each layer I have a Sprite, I've started using graphics.beginBitmapFill, but what I've found is that the graphics.clear() function doesn't actually clear the contents set by the previous call to graphics.begin.BitmapFill. Each frame, I adjust the matrix to shift the layer as needed. Then, I call graphics.clear() and graphics.beginBitmapFill() with the adjusted matrix. Since my layers have alphas in the bitmap, I can see the contents that was drawn the previous frame.

The problem is when one is called the loader remains on the stage I need to be able to remove any loader on stage BEFORE calling another page weather its a photogallery or not.Easiest explanation is how I used to do it in AS2 example 2 btns /2 load separate swfs into level1 on each btn I would have

I am using loader to load an image "1.jpg" in the constructor.Using a timer, after 5 seconds I want to remove the child and then reload another image however removeChild doesn't work, neither does getChildIndex. In the constructor I can call getChildIndex and it outputs 1, however in the Timerevent function it seems that I cannot get access to the my_loader created in the constructor.
However from the Timerevent function I do have access to the variable test that I created in the constructor. Why is it that I can access test, but not my_loader and how can I fix this so I can get the reference to my_loader within the Timerevent function? I tried moving the loader outside of the constructor but then I get a message saying that my_loader is undefined for the line "my_loader.load(new URLRequest("1.jpg"));"[code]...
I have bought a flash template in which I want to incorporate into another movie but I need to remove the preloader and button control. So in other words as soon as I preview it, it should play automatically without first seeing a preloader or having to click on a button to play the movie.
I'm making a website with different pages, one of which is an gallery. I load the images only when you go to the gallery page and I use BulkLoader for this. The problem is that if you switch the page while the loader is loading, the whole player crashes... I try to put the whole loading in try{}catch(){} block. I also added Event.REMOVED_FROM STAGE listener and tried to pauseAll() the bulkloader
I have a holder movieclip on screen, then I create a loader, load an external SWF into the loader and addChild to my holder:

flash and am trying to create a vending machine game but I seem to have come unstuck. The coin_slot that I have added doesn't seem to remove from the stage after frame3. I have included colour to the the event triggers to allow me to see what is happening at the moment the coin_slot image that I add does seem to remove from the stae but there still seems to be something hidden within the stage. This is still in really rough stage of development I just need to figure out the code at the moment.
