Flash :: Calling AMFPHP From Red 5 Returns A Long Double?

I'm running the latest build (I'm pretty sure it's 1.0) on Ubuntu and I am calling a function on an amfphp service on another server. Everything seems to be in order, but I am getting a strange return value using the following code:

I am trying to call a method that has some xml functionality and It keeps coming up null.What I am trying to do is; I have a page that has four dynamic text fields that get their content from an xml file. I would like to create a method that will output the contents to display in the dynamic field. UPDATE: Now I've moved the AMFConnection var declaration to outside the functions in Main, and commented out some trace() commands, and now it gives new errors:

I'm trying to connect to AMFPHP on a server (with Flash AS3), and the swf borks when it reaches the .connect() stage. To make things easier (?) and more reusable (?), I've put all the NetConnection mechanics into a separate class, AMFConnection, which I call from the Main document class like this (details changed):

AMFConnection actually starts the connection and calls the AMFPHP service with the function gogogo(), and here's where the connect() NetConnection function just won't work. Here's the main section of the AMFConncection class

It also fails to display the stage, instead showing the loading dots. Now, eventually I'm going to move this application to the same server as the AMFPHP service, but even when I try it there with a relative url, instead of an absolute one, it still breaks down at connect(). I've tried changing the publish settings from local only to network only, to no avail.

I have a load file and a write to file method. We all know what they do. How ever load always returns true and write always returns false....Right there you know somethings wrong. Because The forums have an issue with me posting code...I posted it here: [URL] Based on this code what is the issue here? why is write always returning false and why is load always returning true? (even for files that do not exist). My understanding is that if flash cannot find the file it should write to it will create it and if it cant load said file, then that method should return false.

I'm trying to play a 10 minute long video (h264/mp4) which is 39MB in size, after I call stream.play(fileURL) it doesn't start playback until its loaded around 12-16MB of the file (many many seconds later), I finally get onMetaData at this point too. Why doesn't it begin playback right away, or at least w/in a couple seconds? What can cause this bloated lead in time?

I'm having with a menu navigation system. I'm using Flash MX. I have created a menu system for the site I'm building ([URL]) where one of the buttons "Choose photographer" drops down a list of names. All the other buttons just jump to another page. The drop down is currently using tweens also the logo moves to the left as the dropdown appears and returns when the dropdown returns. All working fine apart from its a bit jerky.
It's I just wanted to get away from tweening and use action scripts instead, as I'm a newbie to all things Flash I trawled the net for tutorials and examples so that I could cobble together the exact same effect. I have managed to get the drop down work and return using the action script and it does seem smoother and works slightly better. But can I get the logo to move to the left and back in time with the drop down...no.

I was wondering if you could direct me to a decent tutorial or have any info on setting up a contact form in flash cs5 using amfphp? I can create the contact form in flash cs5 and i have set up the amfphp gateway successfully with a working test email. I have seen the gotoandlearn tutorial but need help extracting the data from my flash fill in form. My problem is that I don't know the actionscript to collect my data from the flash form via a send button.

I am currently developing an application in flash. In this application user will be able to buy in-game currency using real life money. For this purpose we have some external actors. In our case, it is hipay.Now, once a user clicks on a particular button, as3 will use amfphp to call a php file that eventually will do this: header("Location: ".$url) ; Once this happens I get an error in my flash:

is it possible to insert html code into a flash component, like a text area? I have an example at [URL] where I want to insert html code like:

How do I escape double quote " in XML when I load it in Flash? I use createTextField and I have created a Font in the Library. I use TextFormat to embed the font. When just use " in my XML file, it will show " in my flashmovie, why is that?

I Have Flash CS4 and a pretty decent system with Vista and 3 GB of RAM. However, whenever I click on anything in Flash, it takes about 3 or 4 seconds for it to become active. If I click a keyframe, the stage won't come up for 3-4 seconds, if I click the text tool, the cross hairs won't come up for 3-4 seconds, etc. It has been like this since I installed it...I am just finally getting my full of it.

It might be possible in some alternate universe, but here on earth, I should get a result of 99.9... I'm really hoping one of you can explain to me why Flash returns that result, cause really, I'm at a loss here... this line:

I've made a project which uses double slashes ("\") on paths for source files like sounds,xml etc. It works fine on a CD but I want to uploaded on a server.The swf files which use those paths work fine on IE but not on firefox,safari,opera etc. I red that the problem is the slashes that I used in paths. They should be backslashes like "/Sounds/somesound.mp3" and not "\Sounds\somesound.mp3".I found that firefox translates "\Sounds\somesound.mp3" to a single file named "Soundssomesound.mp3", the directory "Sounds" now turns to a part of the filename.
If I place and rename the source files like "Soundssomesound.mp3" on the server in the same directory with the swf file (not in "Sounds" directory) this way works on firefox, but does not work on IE. I have to place the source files in both ways to work in all browsers but that's not good...I know that the best thing that I can do is to change the path syntax in fla's but the project is to big.

I have a performance question about pixel bender. I want to enlarge many BitmapData (double their size into new BitmapData). I was doing this with as3, but wanted to use pixel bender to get better performance. On my machine, I get better performance out of pixel bender demonstrations then as3.
To my surprise (or bad coding / understanding), I am getting much worse performance out of pixel bender -- 2 seconds vs 1/2 second! I expected to get at least the same performance as as3.

I know already that Double click event is not available for iOS(iPhone, iPad).But for example google map or other drawing applications have function of double click to scale up.

- Flash Player embedded on standalone application (didn't seen that problem in browser yet)
What we are doing in this flash? We have just a loop for every character in our Array it looks if a TextField with this character .width is larger than boundaries. Yes? Create new line. No. Continue writing in same line.
As we can see on the buggy screen the width sometimes appear to be doubled - whitch generally destroys our layout.

I have a MovieClip called HolderMc and a ClickBtn inside HolderMc, here i want to DoubleClick the HolderMc and also i need to click the ClickBtn inside the HolderMc, here i have used MouseChildren as false to HolderMc to click the button, and doubleClick as enabled to HolderMc but no use, and also i have used to get the MovieClips name using target.currentTarget even though i am not able to use the doubleclick option alone.

I know flash know some Actionscript... to be clear what I know is how to take code form a sample file, and build the gui ontop of it... simple stuff not too tech... ie like moving an object onEvent using AS etc.
I have never taken any programming courses I am a university grad with a good amount of math knowlegde and solid (so I'd like to think) design sense. What I would like to know is two things.1. What methods (if any) would I take to become a proficient AS developer.
2. How long will it take (I can basically devote 6 out of the 7 days of the week to this effort.

I've recently noticed that when Flash goes into full-screen mode, triggered by a double-click, Firefox (3.0.1) takes the focus - if the user clicks anywhere on the screen outside the area of the original (non-fullscreen) Flash player area, Flash returns to non full-screen mode. Also, the cursor changes to reflect whatever is on the browser page beneath the fullscreen Flash app - i.e. it changes to a hand in areas where there is a link on the HTML page, or to a bar in areas where there is a textbox.
