Flash :: Detecting If There Is A Timeline Mask?

Sep 9, 2011

I am bumping into a very strange behaviour on Flash. If you on the Flash IDE create a shape with a mask associated to it, save it and then export it as a swf, you cannotprogramatically know there is a mask (displayObject.mask is null)

Here's a simple test script to prove that:
//executed on enter_frame with the root object
function test(d:DisplayObject) : Void

Flash :: Dynamically Change The Width / Position Of A Timeline-animated Mask?

Jan 27, 2010

I've got a movieclip with two layers - a background movieclip, and above that, a mask movieclip (as you might guess, this layer is masking the first). Due to design necessity, the mask is animated on the timeline across 60 frames. The problem arises when I use an Event.RESIZE listener to change the width of the parent movieclip when the browser window is resized. Any code to reference the mask, i.e

parentMC.contentMask.width = stage.stageWidth;
parentMC.contentMask.x = frame.width/2 - frame.contentMask.width/2;

Simply results in the mask animation not playing at all.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Detecting When Any Movieclip Appears On The Stage's Timeline

Mar 25, 2008

Is there a way to detect when any particular movieclip appears on the stage's timeline in AS2?

Attempt #1: The MovieClip.prototype.onEnterFrame hack
---------------------------------------------------------

All Movieclips have an Enterframe event. I set it to attempt to delete itself within the function so it runs once. Unforunately, this isn't possible (delete this.onEnterFrame) doesn't work, unless we delete the prototype.onEnterFrame dierctly as well. Of course, we can set the enterFrame to null, but enterframe will still be called despite it being nulled. So, what are the performance hits as a result of this?

Is there a way to flush away the MovieClip.prototype.onEnterFrame (by deleting it: deleting MovieClip.prototype.onEnterFrame), and then re-declaring it again "MovieClip.prototype.onEnterFrame=someFunc", so that layter clips that appear on-stage can be initialised accordingly with the enterframe "frame1" function? Yes, but redeclaring the function again would also apply the same enterframe event to the previous clips on the stage which had alraedy been initialised, which would waste more cpu cycles. Unforatunelay, it seems the Prototype thingy affects all instances on the stage, not the constructor itself upon initialisation. So, doing MovieClip.prototype.onEnterFrame=something, will cause all Movieclips on the stage to have that event, which is going to suck!!!

Could i hack the MovieClip cosntructor and create a totoally new one? But i think all these are hardcoded alraedy.

I want the function to run only upon instantiation of the MovieClip when it appears on the Stage's timeline.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Mask Gradient Blend Timeline Insanity?

Jan 14, 2012

Layer 1: Linear gradient with transparency on each side.

Layer 2: Graphic symbol of an animation that runs across the entire screen.

The edges of the gradient should mask the animation on either side so it looks like it's fading in from one side while fading out on the other. Is it possible, using just the timeline, to achieve this effect? It's been awhile since I've done timeline animations but I know I've done this before I just can't, for the life of me, figure out the magic combination.I've tried changing the gradient from graphic to movieclip, I've adjusted blend mode, and bitmap caching, yet each time I run the animation the gradient is ignored completely.I read that using masks for gradients are ignored so I changing the layer back to it's original and specify the symbol as movieclip with blend alpha did nothing as well...

ActionScript 2.0 :: Scriptable Mask - Large Mask Behind The Whole Of Flash Site?

Aug 19, 2003

what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.

All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).

I have a startDrag function set up on a loader and mask that when the mouse is down on the loader it drags, when not it doesn't. There is also 2 buttons that control whether mask1 or mask2 is used. What i would like however is when the mouse is down - the area of the loader outside of the mask is visible but only by about 10/20% alpha, that way the user can see where all the image is while dragging. Is this possible? Full code can be seen below and i have attached the zip with the .fla file:

Create Own Mask Around A Jpg Image By Drawing Around It On The Mask Layer

Dec 4, 2009

maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.

how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.

Flash :: Convert Midi Timeline Into Actual Timeline That Should Be Played

Mar 13, 2011

I have researched the subject for some time now and still haven't figure it out.I use midas3 library (Midi-actionscript3) to import midi to flash. I get each note-item on a timeline. I get the divisions value (192) and all of the "GET-TEMPO" elements are equal to 81.I tried a lot of combinations to get the actual time of the midi but still no good (timeline*192/60 for example). The reason I know it is not synchronized to the actual time is that when I visualize the notes as simple rectangles in flash - I check if they appear exactly to what the mp3 file plays (I have converted the midi file to this mp3 using simple conversion program)I have read a lot about how all is calculated but still haven't figure out the number I need to use to get it right (timeline * MysteriusConstant = ReaTIME, what is the value of MysteriusConstant? is it really constant? and if not how do I calculate how it is changed?)

Flash :: Javascript - Detecting End Of Movie

Is there a way to detect end of Flash movie (OOTB, without using some sort of flash callback). Alternatively, is there a way to know the length of the movie? Update: IsPlaying() looked promising (periodically checking it), but as it turns out, nobody is creating straight forward swfs any more; now, the content is embedded in main layer and while the content plays, the main movie is stopped and IsPlaying is always false...

ActionScript 2.0 :: Detecting Flash Player?

May 21, 2007

I have created some flash banner ads for a client to put into his own website, which he can edit himself using a third party piece of software (is it Blue Martini??... or something like that). I have published my banners for player 8, and normally this is fine when used within a dreamweaver html page, in that if someone doesn't have the right version of player, they are prompted to download the latest version using javascript. Thing is, this isn't happening with the site my banners are going into, and people with version 7 player are missing elements of the banner!! I'm thinking its because of the way the swf is placed into the site??? Is there a way I can control the detection and direct to a download within my flash file only? with actionscript??

ActionScript 2.0 :: CS3 Detecting & Posting Username From Flash To PHP?

May 22, 2009

I have a flash game that asks the user to enter his username & password then he can start playing the game. After that the score gets saved to MySQL next to his username & password. The final step is to display his scores in the flash game. Everything works fine except for the last step which is calling back the scores from MySQL to the flash game.

I call the scores from MySQL using PHP file which sends the data to flash through XML. I can call the data from MySQL & display it in flash BUT I should enter a specific user name manually in the PHP file. The problem is that I can't make the flash game display the scores of the logged in user. for example: User A signs-in, plays the game, his/her score gets saved & then the problem occurs calling back his/her scores to the flash. In order to display User A scores in the Flash , I should replace the $username variable in the PHP file with "User A" so the scores can be displayed in the Flash file.
