Flash :: Display Trace For Non-debug AS3 Application
Jul 4, 2011
A client is running into some problems with an application, and cannot install the debug flash player, meaning debugging is very hard. Does anyone know of a way to display the system's trace messages in a textfield on the stage for example? This way I could find the error by having it trace to their screen. I suppose a workaround would be to try/catch all over the application but that is not ideal and very cumbersome.
I am getting Warning: 'flash' has no property 'prototype' every time I load a swf in my flashlog.txt.Does anyone know how to disable that warning or all warnings in the mm.cfg file or maybe some other way?
This has never happened before. One of my .fla's suddenly won't trace at all. Anywhere I put a trace statement, it does not work. On the main timeline, in an MC, in a function... nothing!
Is there an option that I could have accidentally turned off or on?
I have an html file which I want to use every time I debug my flex application. I don't want an new html file to be generated every time. How can I do this?
I am trying to build a AS3 only project in Flex....I have tried debug mode, but seems like it takes so long to compile....I can't use trace or check variables...Are there anyway to do debug??
I'm an application developer, and my standard usage of Flash is as follows: I'm creating an executable application, which contains a ShockwaveFlash object instance, which in turn is displaying a Flash Movie Clip - also created by myself. The executable application and the contained Flash clip are communicating via the ActionScript ExternalInterface (using XML strings) and the FSCommand.
I'd like to be able to debug the ActionScript code of the Flash file while I'm running/debugging my executable application. For that, I need to be able to start a remote debugging session from the Flash object running inside my executable. Problem is, I did not find any way of doing this.
When I publish the Flash SWF file with "permit debugging" checked, I'm able to start a remote debugging session when I'm displaying the file in a player or a browser (the "debugging" option is shown at the right-click menu of the Flash object), but I'm not able to do the same with the object inside my executable (the "debugging" option doesn't exist on the menu).
Environment Details: The executable application is using the ShockwaveFlash COM file to create the ShockwaveFlash object. The executable application is created using VB.NET, Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5. The Flash SWF file is created using Adobe Flash Professional CS4. I'm developing under Windows XP (SP3).
I want to release my flash application not in release mode but in debug mode to see result of trace() after releasing the app.
I don't care that debug mode makes processing speed little slow.Except for processing speed, are there disadvantages to release flash application which was compiled in debug mode?Is it possible that the app throws exception or Flash Players of the app's users crash due to debug mode?
I've built a simple application in Flex Builder 3 with some trace() calls. It's an "ActionScript Project", no MXML or AIR involved. I don't run the app from within Eclipse, I just open the generated html file with Firefox.
I'm using the Flash Player 10 Debug version. I've correctly set mm.cnf to log trace output, following the official instructions. A flashlog.txt file is generate in the appropriate location.
Despite all that, trace output is not shown in the log file. What am I doing wrong?
(I suspect it's a compiler option, but I can find no such option in the project options in FlexBuilder)
(If I do run the app from Eclipse, by pressing F11, I can see trace output but only inside Eclipse, not in the log file)
I have an AIR application which uses RemoteObject to comunicate with remote services in PHP (using Zend AMF). The application works great, but I can't debug the PHP side (the Flex debugger works fine, the PHP side is the problem). I'm using Flash Builder 4.5 for PHP, when I write a Web Application (not AIR), I can choose to debug the application as "Web (PHP) Application", and the breakpoints in the PHP side are working as expected. But I can't see any similar option for Desktop Applications (AIR). Does somebody know if it's possible (and how) to debug the PHP side in an AIR application?
I have a swf that I need to attach the flex builder debugger to. I have full access to the source code, and can make a debug build of this swf.
However, this swf is being loaded by a non-debug build of another swf which I don't have source code to, and can't make a debug build with.
I've tried mocking this up with two very simple swfs, and while it works fine when both are debug builds, when the outer swf is a non-debug build, while I can get the debugger to connect, I don't get trace messages, breakpoints don't work, and it seems to lock up the flash app.
I have a flex app using the 4.5.1 sdk and AIR 2.7 running on an Android 3.2 tablet. During use, I can get it to crash fairly regularly. It's usually when I'm rapidly scrolling around in a List control. I can't seem to find the cause.
The application will just suddenly close. It happens in both debug and release builds.
When in debug mode, it just disconnects from the debugger and doesn't give me any useful information.
I'm at a loss on how to debug this. What are some techniques I can use?
I found the "adb logcat" command. Relevant info from the log below, unfortunately it doesn't mean much to me.
How can I find the return value of a executable which has been invoked by a AIR app using the NativeProcess API? I am using Flash Builder 4. The following c++ generated executable
festival --tts "HelloSpeak.txt"
works fine on the Windows cmd line , but on invoking by the NativeProcess API like in the example article doesn't produce the desired result. I invoke the command with the arguments on a button click handler, but there is no TTS generated output.
Is it possible to display the Soft Keyboard when debugging using ADL? If I use the existing properties I still don't see it. I want to check if my layout looks well when the Soft Keyboard appears, but for some reason I don't see it coming in ADL (Adobe Debug Launcher). I don't have a tablet to test it on for now so that isn't a solution. I don't see the soft keyboard or doesn't it exist in ADL?
This is the edit to my question. There is quite a bit of code here, but the problem area is below the second set of three line comments. I stuck the rest in just in case I'm completely wrong about where the problem is. With the "if" statement I can display fine in a run, but not in debug. If I get rid of the conditional it runs fine in debug, but not in a regular run. These errors only occur on the first run of the quiz. In either mode it runs fine fi I take a second quiz.
// ** this function is called from another component that passes in the array of qnums // ** and then function clears data from previous quizzes. Component starts in the // ** "loadingState **//
I'm having alot of trouble tracking down the name of an object on the display list so i can removeChild Is there a way to trace every object on the display list so i can get its name and remove it? my stage is changing dynmically and i can't jut trace each object through a whole whack of code.
If I have a FLA compiled as say "myfile.swf", how do I output in a trace the name "myfile.swf"i.e var rootname:String = thisIsTheThingIWantToFind;I am trying to display to a user the embed code for a widget and need to put in the string the name of the widget.I could hard code the name in (as I am currently doing) but I want to make it dynamic for when I change the filename.
we use "document.write" in javascript, similarly i use "trace" in flash. But, what if i want it to get displayed in the swf itself. Will i have to use a "dynamic text box" (if yes, how) like writing " mytxtbox.text= ..." or what else is the way. The point being that the result that gets displyed in the output panel because of trace should come in the 'swf' so that someone using the swf to test would not need my .fla
I need to display Facebook video player in my Flex application. I retrieve URL via FB Graph API to a video being displayed in facebook video player and I pass it to SWFLoader. Unfortunately I have some problems with getting it displayed correctly.Facebook video player is displayed on Facebook site as 720x244 movie. The movie is displayed in the middle of it (320x240) and on the left and the right side there is black background.Is there any way to display central part (movie) only with SWFLoader? Here is my code:
Im trying to show a flash animation in my QT application, I'm doing it by a QWebView. This is my code:
webpage = new QWebPage(this->window); webpage->settings()->setAttribute(QWebSettings::PluginsEnabled, true); webpage->settings()->setAttribute(QWebSettings::JavascriptEnabled, true);
[Code].....
So, Im able to show regular pages, but the pages that got a Flash animation doesnt appears. I receive a blank page and a symbol from adobe, like "Get flashplayer". I already have it, those pages load ok in Firefox and Chrome. I have put the NPSWF32.dll e my project folder and in others standar paths, but it Didnt work. So I do not really know what to do now. Hope you guys can helpme, I couldnt find the plugin file in Firefox or Chrome folders, so I downloaded another NPSWF32 to put in the project folder, maybe is that?
The following is the code I am using to display a YouTube embedded video in my flash application.
Code:
Security.allowDomain("youtube.com"); var plr:MovieClip = new MovieClip(); addChild(plr);
[Code]....
I cannot load more than one of those in my app. As soon as I load one youtube vid like that, any others will fail to load UNLESS it was the same video as the first one loaded, in which case there seems to be a 50% chance that it will load. And even when the second one (the same as the first) does load, there are issues with the player loaded.... it seems they are connected somehow and get confused with each other. The trackbar will flicker between the play time of the first one and the play time of the second one.
Next problem... I cannot unload the video right away. Say my user wants to close the video out, when I use:
Code:
ldr.unload()
the player does NOT close its streams and you can hear the audio still playing (assuming it was closed before it was finished playing)...
In my eyes, this is horribly bad programming on YouTube's part. They claim that you are allowed to embed their videos in AS3.0, but if that's true then why does it have such a horrible time as a child SWF? Proper children SWF files should be listening for an "unload" call and close out anything they need to when unloaded.
Here is what I've tried so far:
- Seperating the videos by loading them into other children SWF files (children that I created that I've told to load a specific YouTube vid)
- loading at different times
- Allowing security access from YouTube
How can I load more than one YouTube video into my Flash App without causing problems between them? I'm at my wit's end.
Is it somehow possible to output the traces in a deployed application to a display element?'m aware of the debug deploy in Flash Builder, but unfortunately I can't convince my iPad to work with that,Edit: On second thought, a full console output would probably be best. The flash console kostik suggested looks pretty good, so making it display the console output would be ideal.
I am trying to create an array (1-35), mix that array and display the results with a trace. I am getting an error with the following code.
public function generateArray(toNumber : int) : Array { var result : Array = []; for (var i : int = toNumber; i != 0; i--) { result.push(i); [Code] .....
The error(s) are: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method generateArray. 1120: Access of undefined property generateArrays.
Since I've never done this and the google results are quite random, I ask here: Is it possible to display Flash movies inside a Flex application and interact with them?
The scenario is as follows:
I'm developing a new application in flex Another, already completed application is given to me as SWF (or perhaps SWC, don't know any details yet) I have to insert this second application inside in my Flex application, which should be no problem afair I have to interact with this application: send and retrieve data. Don't know any further details here, too.
Will this be possible? Or is Flex only capable of displaying the SWF without the possibility to interact with it? I hope you can understand, what I want (have to...) do.
When I first downloaded Flash CS3 Professional, I was able to enter an exceedingly useful debug mode by compiling using ctrl+shift+enter instead of ctrl+enter. I could toggle break points, step in, step over and view values stored in variables at a whim.
I must have accidentally toggled some option somewhere, because this interface no longer shows up. Instead, the only extra interface I get is the output menu with the following text "Attemping to launch and connect to Player using URL <file path> [SWF] <file path> - 71984 bytes after decompression" and while the swf does halt if the as3 code reaches a break point, it doesn't tell me which break point nor give me any options to progress the flow (not even through the pull down menu I have to utilize in order to end the so called debug session).
I develop Flex-Java applications which is running under Apache Tomcat. I use Flex Builder plug-in for Eclipse as my IDE. My application consists of several libraries and modules. I manage all of them as a small maven (flex-mojos) projects.
I've migrated to FDT from flashdevelop and kind of have a hard time getting things to work the way I'm used to. In Flashdevelop, you could easily choose if the compiled swf was a release or debug version. In FDT however, it seems like there is no way to compile a version that has debugging information without it automatically opening up the debug perspective with a ton of debug windows, a profiler and actually entering debug mode.
As an extra plus, I keep getting a message saying "This feature is only available in FDT Max", although from what I know the debugger is included in the free version. Is there a way to do what I'm trying to do or should I just get used to this new way of working?
