Flash :: Get ExternalInterface Definitions In Script?
Jan 12, 2010
Is there a way to get a list of the exposed functions from a Flash object? For example, you could get a list of all methods in an object by executing[code]...
The only issue is that this won't expose any methods registered through the ExternalInterfaces API. I can try and see if the function exists (object['method']) and it tells me it is a function, but I would have to guess every existing method in this manner..

When load and SWF into another, the loader SWF can get definitions in the loaded SWF using ApplicationDomain.getDefinition(name:String) in example:
package
{
// ... imports
public class SWFLoader extends Sprite
[code]....
how can I get ALL the definitions and not just ONE of them?

So I know you can assign a base class to a library definition within the Movieclips library information field but If I have 30 items in the library and I change the Base class this becomes a pain in the ass, can this be done programmatically when I instantiate the library definition?
var new_shiz:MyItem1 = new MyItem1(); // Needs to have a generic base class of MyItem

The errors are one line 123 and 128.I've googled the error, but I still can't fix it, it's got me baffled for an hour now! I've tried adding curly brace's but still same error. I left line 123 and 128 like this
function _update(e:Event):void
{
_helicopter.update(_mouseDown);
}
function onEnterFrame(e:Event):void
{'
But I'm getting an error stating that _update is not defined

translation API for Flash that can return multiple translations/definitions for a single word.
e.g.
fantasy = fantaisie, fantasme, imagination, cration
etc.
I've managed to find a few that do one word conversion. Including APIs that use Google Translate as a backend. But can't seem to get them to work so that they return alternative translations if available. The web-based PHP/JS/etc. APIs seem to offer this, but haven't found it in Actionscript yet.

I have two type definitions (references of type Class) in ActionScript 3 and I need to figure out if one is a base type (class or interface) of the other.I had hoped something like the following would work, but alas it did not:
var isBaseClass:Boolean = MouseEvent is Event;
It is understandable why it doesn't, but it would still be nice. I can't use describeType either, since for objects of type Class it doesn't actually return the correct inheritance chain but rather just return the types Class and Object, which doesn't help at all. I can use getQualifiedSuperClassName in a loop until either there are no more super classes or there is a match, but it's less than ideal and doesn't work for type checking against interfaces.

i need to create an arbitrary number of display objects using a for loop because the number of objects will depend on the number of items in an xml file.
so i want to control the objects using actionscript. in as 2 i could create a temp variable in the for loop and use attachMovie() and assign an instance name. i know in as 3 you can use the .name property, but i heard you had to use the variable handler to control the object.
so i can't do this because it generates an error:
var numOfItems:uint = 5;
for(var i:uint = 0; i < numOfItems; i++)
{
var mc[i]:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
}

I'm accessing the classes from an externally loaded SWF so that I can "skin" SWF applications at runtime. Everything works fine but I'd like to make it as dynamic as possible and allow developers to access all the class definitions in a loaded SWF without having the FLA file or a list of their names.

This seems like it would be really easy but for some reason it's not working.
I have a class file, class DataSet, which right now only takes an XML file, parses it, and pushes the XML into an array:
The object is instantiated and an XML file is passed back to the object definition. If the XML file is successfully loaded, the class should then called the function parseXML() and put the data into the array.
But for some reason, parseXML() is never called. I have no idea why this isn't working, because the syntax checks out and I've seen millions of other files where functions call other functions.
Here's the class file:

would like to know if there's a way to overwrite a specific definition in the "currentDomain" with one available in a child swf?
I'm loading swfs as assets, and since some of them have code in timeline (mostly stop()'s) i'm exporting symbols as subclasses of my .as
however would like if theres a way to be able to simply write:
var myBall:Ball = new Ball();
instead of:
myBall:Ball = new ballSwfAppDomain.getDefinition("sandbox.Ball")

I wrote two projects using the same 3D library but I modified it pretty heavily in one (to the extent that the inheritance is pretty different on one) - now I need to load one into the other and I'm getting some weird errors that look like the child swf is trying to use the same class definitions as the parent even though it should be in an entirely different namespace.
So - anyone have a tricky way of forcing the loaded swf to use the classes it's compiled with rather than the ones already defined in the parent swf (and vice versa) or do I need to refactor all my stuff?

I've been trying to implement and make classes out of some code that was written in the timeline by someone else; some problems have inevitably arisen. One of these problems is that I can't seem to compile a specific part of it concerning vectors, given that it tells me that there were no property definitions for the variables and that upon importing, these definitions could not be found:
[Code]....
It also tells me that Vector is not a compile-time constant, and its methods or properties could not be found. Besides this, I can't seem to find the definition for BlendMode for applying a filter with the BitmapData draw() method. Below I list the pertinent piece of code for you to be able to help me in case there's something wrong in my writing. Oh and BWT, what does this declaration mean? var i:Vector.<int>=new Vector.<int>([1,2]); I don't understand why the array brackets inside an int Vector.

Working in a very large Flash application, previously in AS2/CS3 I would have a setup like the following:
root.swf-- modules---- code_a.swf---- code_b.swf-- views---- view_a.swf---- view_b.swfUsing _exclude.xml files, I could exclude the classes defined in code_a and code_b from the ouptut .swf of view_a and view_b. root.swf would be responsible for loading the code modules before view_a or view_b, ensuring that class definitions that view_a and view_b depended on existed.
The Problem:We've recently migrated to using Actionscript 3/CS5. *_exclude.xml files no longer exist. To get the same functionality as above, I've tried the following: My setup now looks something like:
root.swf-- modules---- class_a.as---- class_b.as-- views---- view_a.swf---- view_b.swfUse mxmlc to compile root.swf, view_a.swf and view_b.swf, passing it -externs option to specify classes that will be loaded externally (the two classes in modules).
This ensures that the class is excluded from the compiled swf.Use compc to compile class_a.as and class_b.as into classes.swf, using -directory=true to access library.swf for external loading.However,when I try running one of the two view files which depend on classes.swf, I get runtime errors telling me that a class definition is not present.
Current Workaround
I've devised a workaround which I'm currently not happy with as it's backwards to the modular approach that I was previously using:Rather than loading the code modules, I statically link all class definitions required by child movies intoroot.swf. When building root.swf, I use the -link-report option of mxmlc to provide a list of included classes. When building child swfs, I can the use -load-externs to ensure that class definitions that already exist will not be included in the compile output.
Is there a way that anyone is aware of to replicate the AS2/_exclude.xml solution that I had using AS3/CS5?

I'm attempting to compile a Flex application from an ANT script, inside of Eclipse (CFBuilder, based on Eclipse), and I've run into this error:
Could not load definitions from resource flexTasks.tasks. It could not be found.
I haven't been able to find anything that gives directions on where this file (flexTasks.tasks) should be copied to, if it's needed at all. Some places indicate that it should be part of the flexTasks.jar file. I've tried two different things:
Copy the jar file into the ant/plugins/lib folder (and restart my CF Builder instance)Specify the path to the jar in the classpath attribute, as suggested by the comment on this page Neither helps me get past this error.Here's my build script, for reference:
<project name="Tagging" default="compile-tagging" basedir=".">
<!-- setup flex compilation capability -->
<taskdef resource="flexTasks.tasks" />
<property name="flex.src" value="./src" />

I am having an issues with ExternalInterface.call to return a value in IE. It is working fine in Firefox. Eventhough I changed the "allowscript access" to "always", still it is not working. Is there any thing that I need to change in Flex or the HTML to make this work? or this is a security setting in IE?

I'm communicating from a flash application using a command like the following: ExternalInterface.call("hello", "world") This is handled on the C# end by something like:

The axFlash_FlashCal is called fine, as long as there is a textbox on screen that's set to use TLF text. (any textbox will do, no specific ID). Without the textbox the even will not fire. Use a try/catch block to find error.I'm using AS3, exporting for Flash Player 10 and testing on Firefox 3/Safari 4, on a Mac.
