Basically an array if fed to callThumbs() which iterates through it and compares the entries with preloaded XML _my_images. If match is found, it's sent to processXML which loads all relevant info and loads a .jpg thumbnail. All this is then fed to createCell which creates a specific cell with position values depending on x_counter and y_counter values (4 cells in a row) and adds the cell into a container _container_mc.
The Problem: This all works fine and looks fine, the problem is that the cells within the container do not display in descending order. They are in random order, probably because some of the .jpg's takes longer to load etc. How do I easily organise the cells within the container in descending order by the XML .id value? Or how do I tell Flash to wait till the thumbnail and data is loaded and the cell created and added?

I'm making a Flash game (which is basically a version of the same game), and I've used a tileList for the board populated with movieClip pieces. I would like the pieces to respond to mouseOver, mouseOut, and mouseClick events. From looking at other question/answers, I get the idea I'll need a custom imageCell. Is that the way to go. I was hoping I could get the responses I want by putting the actions into the movieClips themselves as below, but that doesn't seem to work. I'm using the Spark DataGrid for the first time and finding it generally very usable.There's something I'd like to do with the contents of my grid now that I've drawn it though and I'm a bit stuck as how to proceed.I'd like to make a function that runs through each cell of a certain column in the DataGrid, that checks each value against an Array of predefined values; if it finds a match, it should then highlight the cell as conflicting, by changing its colour.I know you can access a particular cell's item renderer, by using the getItemRendererAt() function, and passing the column and row indices. But I can't see how I would, for example, loop through the values in each column

Right now tab navigation works (on tab, focus goes to next editable cell) with the alert inserted in the code but I'm not sure why because I believe the alert in the code breaks the flow of event bubbling. However without the alert (which is what we are going for) the focus goes to the next grid in our UI.
You can see the attempts of trying to stop the event from going to other components. I have also tried to call preventDefault() and stopPropagation() on the datagrid when it receives a tab key event.

I am attempting to combine two AS files that are acting as cellRenderers individually but not simultaneously for cells in a datagrid in a Flash document I have created. The first styles the cells to have alternating row colors and the second allows for non-text content to be rendered. The issue is whenever I attempt to combine them the document reports errors with "super" and "override" among others.

View 1 RepliesI'm having trouble getting an AdvancedDataGrid to populate properly within an app I'm working on.If I use the sample code found on this page http:[url].... in it's own page everything works fine but if I copy this code into the page within my app that needs to have the grid the column headers/data are not populated.The page that needs the grid is displayed within a Spark NavigatorContent element, I'm not sure if this could somehow adversely effect the AdvancedDataGrid behaviour.I've even simplified the contained page to have just the sample code without anything else and it still does not work. info needed here,

Is there any way to merge cells (vertically and/or horizontally) in a datagrid? At least, for example, is there a way to show that certain datagridcolumns belong to one group. For example, I'll take three columns: column1, column2, column3. All these three should be grouped to the Category cell with a rowspan of 3 -- a "super header" if you will.

View 2 RepliesI have an advanced data grid in flex (flash builder 4). It's dataProvider is pointing to an ArrayCollection (this._encounters). Inside that array collection is a property that is an object (a client object).
I tried setting the dataField to "clientObj.firstName" to refer to the first name property within the clientObj property of the this._encounters array collection. It did not show anything. So, I added a labelFunction to that column (code below) to set the text in the cell. This works fine and now I have values showing in the grid.
The problem is now when I click the title of column to sort it. It throws an error that property clientObj.firstName is not found in my array collection!So, is there a better way to set the dataField / source for a column and point at a property in a sub-object -- or a way to fix the sort?

I have set the List to use a custom cellrenderer.I need the list to have rounded corners but the problem is that where my custom cell corners are transparent I can see a default white cell underneath instead of the background.I found this discussion seemed to be relevant http:[url]......But when I add this function to my cellrenderer class I get compiler error

Set the default skin to be invisible. This is a bit easier than creating a new skin, if your goal is to hide the white background.

I have set up a grid class that contains theoretical cells. I have a method collectCells() which accepts a starting point, radians and distance as arguments. I want this method to return an Array containing all the cells that are along a given angle and that are within the specified distance from the starting point, e.g. The easiest way for me to do this is just loop through all the pixels in the given direction and pick cells up as I go, something like:

This is obviously really poor, as the loop will be as long as the distance I specify - extremely slow. I tried something different, creating a nextCell() method which accepts the last collected cell and radians. The method threw a point 25 pixels in the direction specified by radians, collected the resulting cell and then started over from that cell for a given amount of cells.
I didn't really think about this approach clearly enough, and once done realized that I had a problem, being that the actual path I'm testing gets broken each time the next cell is sought, e.g. Where the green dotted line is the desired path, and the blue lines are the paths that make up each nextCell() call because the check is made from the centre of each cell. What is the correct way to efficiently collect the cells in a given direction over a specified distance (pixels)?
i would like to basically represent a group of cells multiplying and dyeing. I have some data im pulling in, from an xml file and would like this to generate some cells. I have figures that change frequenly, so for example, if the figure increases i would like the cell to multiply and if the figure decreases i would like cells to die off.
If any one point me in the direction of some examples or give me some ideas about the best way to do this i would really appreciate it.

I have a 850 by 480 px grid. For every keystroke i am looping through an array to check if input textfield is matching object keyword, and then create cells that cover the whole grid.
But i am not sure how to populate the grid. The range is between 0 and 300, and the user input decides how many cells i have to create.
If the result is 4, i should create a two by two table. If it's 64, i should have a eight by eight table.
i'm trying to load a full html page with layout table cells intact and full function (like an i frame)i can load text and image but i can seem to get the entire page flash just lods it how it wants.does anyone have an idea? View 2 RepliesI am using the flex datagrid to allow the user to edit some data. My update process relies on a CollectionEvent of type update. Basically I catch this event package the values and update the database. However, if the user edits a cell then moves to edit a cell in the same row the value is updated but a collection event is not fired. Only when clicking out of the row the event is fired. Has anyone had experience with this. I have heard the datagrid is a little quirky is this one of those quirks or am I doing this all wrong?
