Flash :: Address The Object That Has Been Clicked But Not The Children Inside It?
Aug 5, 2011
inside a MouseEvent.CLICK function, I usually used e.target to address the movieClip that I clicked, but that only work with a movieClip that doesn't have any children (such as text and other symbols) inside. When it has children inside, the e.target return the child inside the Mc but not the Mc itself. The e.currentTarget didn't work, either; it returned [object MovieClip] but not the instance name of the Mc.
I have a Sprite called pageContent. Inside pageContent are 12 more Sprites with unique names, a couple of Buttons, and some TextFields. Inside each of the 12 Sprites I have either one or two TextFields and one TextInput. My question is, since they are children inside a child of pageContent, how can I access them? Here is how I am trying to do it:
[Code]...
In my mind, this should totally work. But surprise, surprise, it doesn't. I have debugged it and it works fine for the first two lines, but when it tries to get numChildren of a Child of pageContent (line 3), I get this error: PHP Code: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property numChildren through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
I have a "handmade" button (_btn as instance name), with only a dynamicText inside (or can I say one dynaticText for each of the four button modes). The dynamicText for Up mode has an instance name of "_text".
So if I am working on the AS of the movieClip that contains the button, how can I address the text of the dynamic text?[code]...
I have 36 images in a movie clip. Inside of that movie clip there are 36 other movie clips containing one separate image. I have figured out how to click on them and add it to the stage. But I can figure out how to get them to remove when another image is clicked. (ex. I click on image 1 it will appear on stage but when I click image 2 it show image 2 on top of image 1.) the thing is I don't want to have to click on the images in order. If any image is clicked the one showing on stage will automatically disappear.
I'm making a point-and-click game in Flash and the goal of the game is to click on the right objects in a room. Say, if the main character says 'find my chair', and the player clicks on the chair, it's the good object and an audio file plays. If the player clicks on a spoon, it's the wrong object and an audio file plays. My question is: how can I do that in Flash (in ActionScript, right)? I've made a different layer for each object.
I have a flash shooter game and after a user shoots a bottle, i play the destroy animation and remove it from the screen. The problem is when the user click too fast, like superman fast it enters on the method twice, no matter what.
Here is the code:
public function bottleHasClicked(bottle : BottleBase) : void { bottle.mouseEnabled = false; collectedBottles++;
[Code]....
The first thing i do is to disable the object mouse, and it still happens. I only enable it when im gonna show the bottles again.
Is there a way to get the address of object? Or some kind of Flash resource identifier for the object? I'm having an issue where certain fields in an object are different from the original object, but I'm not sure whether the object is the original object I expect it to be.
I have made a image gallery in xml. where i have a main.swf which loads thumbs.swf ( thumb comes from xml file).when i click on thumbnail it loads a slide.swf file.where i have 2 buttons next and prev.next button loads the next swf.prev button loads the previous swf.i want a unique url for each swf loads from xml in next and prev button..i tried a lot by using swf address and swf object for deep linking.
I'm making a OSX-finder-type file browser in CS4.The Structure for the folder and files is being generated by a PHP in a XML, heres an example:(sorry the xml is not sorted, but the command i'm using in php doesn't sort it)
So i have a calculator and converter on two different scenes. I have two arrays which i stored for my number and operator buttons. I am using a button function to switch between scenes and would like to remove the children for all the buttons inside that array however it only removes one button inside the array. This is the code i have so far: My buttons:
I'm trying to make a dynamic image gallery from and xml. From my tutorials, right now i've got it so it will constantly add the next thumbnail below the other, which is fine, but I'm trying to figure out how to make it that once it reaches a certain y coordinate, it will move the x coordinate over and stack them again. So that rather one long list of thumbs, it will be a side by side stack. For some reason, I can't get it in my head how something like this would work. My goal is to have a side by side stack that I will end up putting in a movie clip that will be masked to show only 2 stacks at a time. Then when clicking a button will slide it over. I was planning to use the "movieclip.length" to calculate how far over to move it, but i haven't gotten that far yet. This is what I got:
I found out that I can't target a object inside the main MC if I use getChildAt / getChildByName. It will return me Error #1119: Access of possibly undefined property someProperty through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.
I was trying to use something like this.getChildAt(0).getChildByName("objectName")....
What's the best way to scale a container mc but not scale the children inside it? Basically I have a box mc with a background colour, with a logo added using addChild, if the user changes the browser size the box scales to the height of the window but it's also scaling the logo, I just want to change the height of the container box really.
I have 9 movie clips which are all of the same object, they get larger or smaller as the mouse gets closer to their respective centers. The functionalilty for this is in an AS3 class file that extends flash.display.MovieClip.How do I go about swapping depths so that the largest one is in the foreground, I am new to AS3 and dont seem to be able to find a way of getting the depth of the movieclip I am currently inside (this) and if I try to access the stage to call swapChildren I get the following runtime error:

I I have a view in Flex 3 where I use a tab navigator and a number of views inside the tab navigator. I need to be know which view was clicked because of it's one specific view then I need to take action, i.e. if view with id "secondTab" is clicked then do something.
I have set it up to be notified, my problem is that I need to be able to know what view it is. Calling tab.GetChildByName or a similar method seems to only get me back a TabSkin object.
I have a simple input text box that has some text pre entered into it eg Put your email address here. Now when the user clicks into this box I would obviously like to clear that.
how to get your logo to appear next to the address of your web site when your website address is typed in, for example if you look at the website address at the top of the screen you see (logo) [URL]
I want to create a button that when clicked it shows a good looking box with a swf or an image inside. I've tried looking for a tutorial for something that resembles this, but couldn't. The closest thing I found were tooltips, but that's not what I need. The tooltip disappears and it's not meant for UI.
I'm trying to check if a clicked element is inside of an IVisualElement in Flex 4. So I want something like "if this element is in this element, then execute function". I'm aware of the 'parent' property but this doesn't seem to work when my element is not a direct child of the element but for example 3 levels deep.
