Aug 4, 2011
I want to make a clicked function that recognized the item being click
Here is my try, but It didn't work:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
public class main extends MovieClip {
[Code]....

I have a boolean variable, projectsLoaded that is set to false when my application loads. As i'm sure you can imagine, when the final project module loads, I set the variable to be true. Is there a way I can trigger a series of functions to run once that variable is set to true?

How to get variable value from inside event function. Variable was declared outside event function.
var StringVar="sample";
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myClickReaction);
function myClickReaction (e:MouseEvent):void{
StringVar="other sample";
} trace(StringVar); /*
It gives me "sample" value and I would get "other sample" value */. That strange because if that would be normal function trace would give me good result.
var StringVar="sample";
function myClickReaction():void{
StringVar="other sample";
} myClickReaction();
trace(StringVar); /* it gives me result as I wanted to have - "other sample" value */
I know also method of passing arguments into event fuction but it not works for me as I would like to
var StringVar="sample";
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(e:MouseEvent){ myClickReaction(e, StringVar) },false, 0, true);
function myClickReaction (e:MouseEvent, StrVar:String):void{
StrVar="other sample";
} trace(StringVar); /* it also gives me "sample" value and I would get "other sample" value */
How to do that correctly?

I have an array and want to add event listener to these. I have cards on stage and define their name using "event.target.name"HP Code:trace(event.target.name)returns the clicked objetc's instance name. But When I want to add event listener to these, some problems occur.I try to use it in so many places like;
PHP Code:
mainsTimeline2.insert(new TweenMax(event.target.name, {x:stage.stageWidth y:(stage.stageHeigh /

inside a MouseEvent.CLICK function, I usually used e.target to address the movieClip that I clicked, but that only work with a movieClip that doesn't have any children (such as text and other symbols) inside. When it has children inside, the e.target return the child inside the Mc but not the Mc itself. The e.currentTarget didn't work, either; it returned [object MovieClip] but not the instance name of the Mc.

I have an event listener for a custom event type. This custom event overrides the clone method as required.In this event listener I want to dispatch an instance of a different type of event... a different custom event instance altogether. It also overrides the clone method as required.The problem is I'm getting a type coercion error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: ...I do not know what is trying to do the casting. I already tryed thinks like cores.bt01.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, DoSomething); but nothink works.

I'm working on tabs that display different carousel type galleries with previous and next buttons. So, I've got a function that is being called by these tabs and is passed an array based on which tab is selected. Inside of that function, I'm adding an eventListener to the previous and next buttons and using a callback function that works based on the number of items in the array that was passed through the function call. I was running into some strange happenings and using trace statements. Here's what I find: The first call to the function works and traces correctly. The second call traces 2 trace statements; the 3rd call traces 3 statements and so forth. So, I'm assuming that each call is adding another event listener to the buttons.
Here's a condensed version of the function in question:
Code:
Select allfunction loadgallery(picArray){
/* Image Loading code here */
var totalPics = picArray.length;
var picNum = 0;
next_button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextPic);
function nextPic (e:MouseEvent):void{
picNum++;
/* Tween actions here */
trace("picNum: " + picNum); //this traces 1x first time, 2x second, 3x third, etc.
}}
Do I need to remove the event listener from the next_button? If so, what's the best way to do that? Or does someone see something else that I"m overlooking? I tried removing the event listener at the beginning of the function, but failed.

Just wrote a small test page that you can load in IE and Firefox or any other Browser.

So clicking any colored shape should produce an alert (except for the green one in IE, not sure why but I hope that's off topic and not related to my issue).
Clicking the Flash container in Firefox will work Perfectly fine. You should get alert boxes in this order containing: span, div and body. Flash bubbles the event to the HTML. But this is not happening in IE.
So why is Flash in IE not bubbling events to HTML?
Edit: As mentioned by Andy E this behavior can also bee seen in Google Chrome which to my knowledge is not using ActiveX to embed the flash movie into the page.

add an event listener to a button so you can see when it's been clicked but can you add one to a variable to perform an action when the variable changes or do i just have to use an onEnterFrame function to check the value and act on it if it's changed?

I have a variable
var pageState:uint = 0;
The only values of that variable will be 0 (ZERO) and 1 (ONE).
I need to set a kind of Event Listener. Each time the variable changes:
if (pageState == 0){
x = 10;
}else{
x = 0;
}
How can I set an addEventListener to this?

Is it possible to use an addEventListner(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN... to change an integer in a variable without using a function? So, you could have:
myMC.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, myVAR = 1); etc?
Obviously I've tried, but I get implicit failures.

Here is what I am trying to do. Make a dynamic number of buttons on the stage. Place a BtnNum variable in each button so that when the button is clicked it will pass that BtnNum to a function. Here is my code so far
[Code]...
I know that if I use something like this["Btn"+i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function(e:MouseEvent){SayNumber(e, "Hello")}); it will pass a variable but I want to make the variable dynamic and I am lost. I am new to as3 since a week ago.

I have preloader code in my main FLA, and I load the corresponding preloader (a small file) externally. When I detect that the file is fully loaded, I need to add the listener to the content that I want to "preload".[code]If I use it this way, the loaderInfo listener does not work, but if I add the listener ouside of the handler function, it does.The problem is, I need it to work from within the complete handler, because obviously, the preloaded can show the % completed only after it's loaded...

Does addEventListener(ErrorEvent.ERROR, handler) handle all type of error event, for example, IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, and other all error events? I'm looking for addEventListener() version of try catch(e:Error)(e:Error can catch all type of errors).

I got this weird problem, when i run this code:
Code:
package {
import flash.display.MovieClip;
[Code]....
In Flash Cs3 it acts exactly as i want, the ENTER_FRAME runs and the addObject places numerous sprites on the stage. In the window output i'll see the trace. But when i run this code in Eclipse which is set up to use the Flash Player as output i get the first trace from EDHV_ImageSlider but the traces inside addObject won't show up, the sprites however are generated perfect.
The difference between the eclipse setup and the cs3 setup is the fact that the cs3 setup has a *.fla which calls the *.as package.

Could someone explain when does local SharedObject triggers event handlers added via addEventListener?I have tried and it doesn't trigger, after flushing.For example i have two object.swf both in separate browser tabs.I'm adding data inside object.swf on one tab and want event to be triggered in object.swf from another tab.Is it possible with native functionality and without remote type of SharedObject?Ofc i could write infinite loop and check local storage for changes, but it's the last solution i would like to implement.I was reading docs and played with example over there, but it doesn't trigger event, even if it is added before flushing.[code]

My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.
