Is there a way to break text through actionscript so that it becomes a shape? I know that I can hit CTRL+B two times to break apart text and convert it to a shape, but I need to do it through actionscript, so that a user can enter some text, and then I have some effects applied to it.

View 2 RepliesI've got a dynamic html text field in flash which pulls content from an XML file, which is being generated by a CMS using CK Editor. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but flash represents a <br/> tag with a space that seems more fitting for a <p> tag, and a <p> tag renders with about double that amount. How do I control this? I've tried specifying margins in the flash css file, but it has no effect. Is there something I can declare in the actual actionscript code?

These shapes are pretty complex (i.e. they're not square, see image below).
So far, I place textfields manually on the stage and populate them one by one with strings (names) stored in an array. (The textfields are also in an array).
The example below is very simple and I will probably have to setup a good few hundred textfields in the final project.
Would anyone know of a way of populating these textfields dynamically according to an underlying shape?
Or maybe a different approach altogether?
I was thinking collision detection might be an idea but not sure where to start.
PS: I cannot simply use a mask over the chunk of text as each character shall be visible within the shape.

Now I want to display the first part of that text in a data grid. To do so it seems it might be easiest to get the plain text version.
I am hoping I can somehow convert it to plain text in PHP before I pass it back to flex?

Or is there a way to shape tween using AS3. I want people to be able to type in a box and then have that text morph into something. I was thinking about creating an alphabet of letters then reading the inputted text and calling those letters. But those letters would still be in MovieClip form.
I have a simple file that loads text dynamically inside a symbol.. How do I put line breaks in? My code is below. If I leave the text as is it skips a line inbetween.

I've tried both <br /> and %0D, but neither of them give me a single line break, they do nothing, and the single line breaks in the txt file give me two line spacings.I've tried setting HTML rendering both on and off for the dynamic text box.
I've created a multiline Input TextField in Flash CS4 IDE, and when I publish and click on it the text cursor jumps down to the second line. In the Flash IDE there is no line-break, but somehow it gets inserted before it's ever interacted with at runtime. I've tried all sorts of random TextField settings but every time when I render the SWF, the input has a line-break. Anybody ever dealt with this? How do I get the TextField to just be empty on start??

I am populating a dynamic text box with some xml elements that I am calling on. For example, I have two text fields and am filling them using

View 4 RepliesI have an input field with a variable that needs to be displayed within a dynamic text field. I have noticed that when I publish in Flash 8, there is a line break after the variable and I need to sentence to be continuous. This displays without the line break when I set the dynamic text field to "single line;" however, there is about a paragraph of text to be displayed so I need the text to be set to "multiline." For some odd reason, multiline displays a line break after the variable, whereas "single line" does not.
Here are my variable names -------------->>
Input Field variable name is "userName".
Dynamic text field variable name is "outputText".
The sentence to be displayed:
outputText = ""+userName+", and the sentence continues here for a paragraph and so on..."

View 1 RepliesI have this information that is pulled in from a PHP database and displayed in a textfield within flash which works fine BUT when I go to copy and paste that text into another textfield (a note facility) it then means I can't make a line break. I've tried all sorts with the text field and can't see any reason why it wouldn't allow it. Is there something about different text formats that mucks it up?

The designer uses shapes for the UI design, it is easy for him to define the colors and background, but I need this shapes more like a component like Combo box, so I can display the data on those shapes.
Is there any easy way to covert shapes to combo box or the similar operations?
Im trying to make some buttons. Ive made a primitive rectangle and a text object with rosewood std font. Then I put the tex over the rectangle the rectangle is a little bigger than the text in size.The problem is when I do convert to symbol(Button) the text gets all squished.

I have WYSIWYG text editor for flash. Works great. Allows me to edit text, save it as a text file and then load it either back into flash or alternatively into HTML. Problem is that Flash uses the <font> tag which is deprecated in HTML4 and will be removed in HTML5 due to CSS. So given that flash can use CSS I wonder:Is there a way to build a WYSIWYG text editor in Flash that uses CSS ?Has anyone heard of this being done? or even done it them selves I'm after any information at all even if it's just a reason why it won't work or assurance that it will.
View 5 RepliesI'm looking for an AS3 version that dynamically populates this shape and allows for difference in font size to give it some more variety and flavour. I've got some examples of tag clouds but they don't accept a shape as its outer bounds and I've found some that allow for a shape but don't account for dynamic resizing of the text. Even a nudge in the right direction would be all I need and I can go from there.
