I have this PHP that constantly changes an XML.
So... I'm asking, is there an eventlistener in flash that instantly detects change in XML?
What I do currently is to just load the XML again and again and check if something has changed. BUT it takes about half a second to load the XML again (not from cache).
In _root exists function "path=load_Path()" which is triggered when an button is pressed. The result of this function can be "photos/folder1/image.jpg" or "folder1/textpage/" or any other path. What I'm trying to find out is how to get value of "path" automatically when it's changed or get callback whenever function "load_Path()" is triggered.
I don't have possibility to access this function because it's in _root SWF which I can't edit.reply.
Is there a way to Check if the xml file that your loading in has changed since you loaded it in last? I want to check to see if it has changed before i reload it into flash.

I have an if/else statement which checks the length of my current title, and then is suppose to change the defaultTextFormat of the title textField and set the text. Currently the title will not show up now, no matter what character length the title is, any thoughts on what I could be doing wrong here?

I have a class Grid which produces a graph paper like grid on in the drawing area. I then have 5 other classes for different shapes to draw with; Line, Polygon, Ellipse, Curve, Arc Now, these 5 classes use an instance of Grid because Grid has a resolution and a scale. Inside Grid I have:

I'm just lost for a solution on how to update every instance of my 5 drawing classes when Grid is changed.For instance, Polygon is made up of multiple instances of Line, Line(length, angle) where "length" is in either in, ft, cm, or m. If the user wishes to change the scale from say 10ft per 100px resolution to 20ft per 80px.. Is there an easier way than re-drawing every Line inside Polygon?

Now, what I need, is to increase and store the "like" and "dislike" values with the click of a button, but I don't know how to modify and store them in the existing nodes (eg., without adding new ones).Do I need to use PHP, or can AS2 handle it by itself?

My coder developed this online game using silverlight but due to having to download the silverlight software (which is a pain) I am thinking of converting to flash... my coder said it is just too difficult to do.
what are my options
Should I just stick with silverlight? Is it too difficult to get it recoded into flash?
Not sure if I'm missing sth or is it just a bug. I have a movieclip on stage, it's a simple rectangle drawn with a rect tool (no stroke) I add an event listener to trace out the mouseX, works OK so far. When I increase its width the mouseX traces wrong values. Here's a sample code:

I am working on a prototype or proof of concept for my company to adopt Flash as an alternative rather than conventional HTML. I've created my demo XML file locally and followed instructions on a YouTube video (yeah I'm that new) and it all works as it should. The problem is this... I have been looking literrally for hours for a way to get my Flash file to update when the XML gets changed. Either on the fly or via some sort of timer/auto-refresh. I simply cannot wrap my head around it.

I have a small flash tidbit that is basically used like a menu. It scrolls through the thumbnails left and right, when clicked the pages navigates to the appropriate location. However, the flash movie jumps back to the beginning of the movie. Is there anyway I can get it to stay in the same spot when the page is changed? I tried using iframes, but this did not work out, it had the same result. ref:[URL] to see the problem scroll the images to the right and select 'wall boarder buddy' (fourth image from the left) this takes you the page and the flash resets to its original position.
View 12 RepliesI need to detect when a Flex Spark List (spark.components.List) data has changed so that I can programmatically change its scrollbar. I know that List is a an EventDispatcher but it's unclear which event I'd register for.
Edit: My List's dataProvider is an ArrayCollection that elements are added too. So the dataProvider is never replaced. I considered listening to the backing ArrayCollection, but it's possible the List will react to the change after my listener, which alters the scrollbar. Thus my listener's changes will be superseded by that of the List.
I downloaded player from [URL].. but I don't know why what the problem it had with with playlist. I had a playlist in xml file with songs. When i deleted the mp3 from the server, it is still playing. and when i changed the mp3 files it is still playing the original files. I don't know where these files were saved. I thought it was saved in my browser cache and i cleared it but it didn't work. I thought it was cached in my server, but in my localserver , i had the same problem.
So, again i downloaded the player, and this time it played different song, that i put. I have a hypothesis. Does flash player (swf object) absorb mp3 files?? i don't think so but how come player is playing the mp3 that has been changed or deleted? if it was in server cache then how long will it take to clear the cache and play new file. However, i don't remember coding something like 'cache'
my customer wants a custom handcursor in a flash application. however, we use a lot of textfields with hrefs inside, in which case the custom cursor should not be displayed, but the normal hand pointer. any way i can find out if the cursor is above a href formatted text?

If i change the scaleX and scaleY of the picture, the hotspots don't line up anymore. Do you know the correct equation so that any scale i set will always make the hotspots appear at the right place?
I'm trying stuff like this:
hotspot.x *= scaleFactor;
hotspot.y *= scaleFactor;
but i can't quite sort it.
Is it possible to make text content for a site in Flash be changed/updated by someone without having to take the route of Flash? Like I have a text file in notepad, or Word and the text will automatically appear in the swf file?

Now I have a flv player component I want to embedd it inside my xml flash project, It says you need a higher publish settings to enable that flv component. ok fine Now i have changed the Publish settings to Flash Player 8 . When I run the movie Flv component is working but the xml flash website has been disappeared only blankscreen .

In an older version I reloaded the xml via a little timer, but what I understand about this socketthingy is that it keeps an open connection with the server/feed? Check exists in the libary (but does not have an instance name) and no where else on the stage. when I run this code I get: 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method Check. -> var rightCheck = new Check(); How is it undefinded if it exists in the libary?

This is a quiz application that gets the questions and answers to each questions from a ColdFusion web service. There are three types of questions, True or False, Multiple Choice with single selection, and Multiple Choice with multiple selections. So, based upon the question type, the application would dynamically generate the appropriate amount of radio buttons or check boxes for the users to select. I got these working. The problem that I am having is, I am not sure how to check what the users have actually selected. In some other forums and posts on other web site, it said that I can use event.currentTarget.selectedValue to get the user selection. But when I actually do it, I got a run-time error saying, "Property selectedValue not found on mx.controls.FormItem and there is no default value." My question is, what do I need to do to capture the user selections?

I've a basic portfolio page with 5 links. The idea being that 4 stay small and the active page is a larger font. When one link is clicked, itself and whatever font is currently large both swoop down and then the large text is replaced by whatever section the user chose.
I haven't keyframed anything, it's all done with actionscript and here it is. I made one of the links show what the var is currently set to in a dynamic text box. That all seems right. But whenever the 'currentchoice' mc is asked the swoop down, it just disappears rather than animates out. Here's the actionscript.

In the IDE, I have given them instance names like 'myButton1', 'myButton2' etc. I've then grouped all these buttons together into a single container movieclip called 'buttonHolder'.
