Flash - Get Flashvars In Firefox Using Object Embed Tag Only To Work?
May 11, 2010
I am trying to generate an <object> tag only embed code and cannot get Firefox to pass Flash along the FlashVars values. This seems to work everyplace else that I've tried it but fails in Firefox. Here is a sample of the embed that I'm using:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0" width="550" height="400" id="Main" align="middle" data="Main.swf">
<param name="movie" value="Main.swf" />
[code]....
note that the Flash experience does show up in Firefox but when I do traces and actually run the application this fails to read the values.

We have embedded a FLASH with tags <object> and <embed> in a JSP page , running in a web application on a Application Server (Weblogic Server).The flash works fine.We note that, as expected, the code inside <object> is replaced at runtime. (when we access to HTML source code we can view an HTML code differente from <object> and <embed> tags).
But we also tried to call the web page through wget (from command line) and we saw that the HTML source code that we receive is ALREADY replaced.When and from who the <object> <embed> code is replaced ?From javascript (runned by browser) or before ?

I thought it was a problem with my Try / Catch statement, but in reality my issue is really just trying to do a check in an If / Else statement to see if my Flash player can obtain any data from a flashVar. If flashVar VID = great, Else read from an XML file.Basically this is what I need to have happen:
Check to see if there are flashVar values
If so then load the other Class files and DO NOT get the XML file
If not then run the code in the Catch statement and load the XML file
UPDATED CODE I put a lot of comments to explain what I'm trying to do :(

I'm having a problem with youtube video embedding;
In some places on my site (like news etc.) video is normally displayed and can be watched, while in others (forum topics mainly) it flickers whenever I mouseover it (making a new HTTP request to YouTube, as I can see in Firebug).
It definitelly has something to do with CSS rendering; when I disable JS nothing changes but disabling CSS causes it to work properly.
Firefox version: 3.6.12
Flash version: 10.1.82.76
The code I'm using for embedding:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="390" height="293" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/pIxVoDNbujM?ft=18">
<param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
[Code]....
Edit: OMG, it works properly when I'm logged out... Now nothing is clear to me as CSS is the same for users and guests, there are just few minor differences in markup...

I have a video player (just an out of the box flvplayer) where I pass in the video files using flashvars. I'm using swfobject to load the swf and pass in the video file. All standard code, nothing fancy or custom. This works perfectly in all browsers on both mac and pc... except recent versions of Firefox on the PC. On recent FF/PC machines the player loads but the video doesn't.

I've tried to send some parameters to my flash app by flashvars. Unfortunently, it doesnt work. To embde flash I'm using SWFObject 2.2. I also use lib SWFAddress 2.4 (I'm stating this, because I've heard that some versions of swfobject and swfaddress are not compatible).Here is my html code:

I'm using the following code to embed the swf and load a file via flashvars. It works fine in firefox...but does not work in IE. I'm convinced that the issue is in my html syntax. Can anyone spot the problem?
<script type="text/javascript">
swfobject.embedSWF("myflash.swf", "banner", "300", "300", "9.0.0", false, {}, {wmode: "transparent"},{flashvars: "xmlfile=http://www.mydomain.com/directory/file.xml"});
function closeAd(id){
document.getElementById(id).style.display='none';
}

SWFUpload I am using SWFUpload to upload files to a database (Windows XP) over https. Everything works as expected in IE (7 and 8), but using my Firefox 3.3.15 it fails without error message. Using the upload mechanism using http works fine!I found this thread using google. They describe that installing the CAs certificate as trusted issuer would help. Unfortunatly it did not (it was a certificate issued by a CaCert authority).
It works on the machine of my colleague who uses Firefox 3.3.15, but he cannot recall that he did anything special to make it work. I had a look at other machines using Firefox and none of them were able to upload a file to the database.I red that SWFUpload uses flash and that flash might use other certificates than Firefox itself. Does anyone know anything about it?
EDIT: This is the javascript code for the object creation:
// Create the SWFUpload Object
var swfupload_object = new SWFUpload({
upload_url: "[% cgi_path %]/mdb_bulk_import.pl",
file_post_name: 'upload_file',

I just finished my first website using AS3. I am using buttons to access to the different section of the site.
There are working perfectly in Firefox but not in IE and Opera.
Here is the website address: [URL] (the site is in French, but you can understand where to click)

I had to convert an AS2 clicktag script to AS3. It complies and works locally, but I was told I need to use the FlashVars to embed/place a variable (a URL) in the swf before it even starts.This is something I haven't experimented with (yet)I've seen examples and I kind of understand it, but I was hoping on some clarification
var flashVars=root.loaderInfo.parameters;
I understand the dot synatx (enjoy using it), and the root is probably the begining (where it will place the sting) Im a bit confussied on the loaderinfo and the parameters what are here functions in the command.
var clickTAG = flashVars["clickTAG"];
then using the flashVars Im unsure on the use of square brackets (instead of using curly braces)Best guess:This will take the string passed to it "a url" clickTAG and use the flashvars to embed/place it in the root/begining tagged as "clickTAG"?

I tried many Flash .swf before and they all can be scaled freely -- by using a width and height in the HTML, and sometimes in the URL params or flashvars. But is it true that all Flash object can be scaled? For example, can some Flash objects using absolute coordinates to plot graph so that every 10 pixels it marks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and no matter what is done at the HTML or any where else, it just won't scale and the browser can't do anything about it either? Is there a way to scale it to half the size for that graph? (that is, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is separated by 5 pixels instead of 10 pixels)

I'm creating an Entry Page slideshow here with Flash Cs3 and AS2: [URL] I'd like to be able to click on the whole slideshow (or the "Enter Site" text) to go to another page on the site, which I'm calling "[URL]." I've read various tutorials all day and tried many things, but couldn't seem to apply any "on release" action to the "Enter Site" text that would work. I even created an invisible button (putting a keyframe on just the HIT state and deleting it from the UP state), named the instance "invbutton3", and then typed in this action on the first frame and inserted a keyframe at the end of the show:

I'm using ActionScript to listen for key presses and route to a method to handle them. It works fine in Flash Player Debugger 10.1, but does not work with the SWF in a browser. I've tried it with all sorts of keys: letters, numbers, etc. But I can't get it to work at all in the browser. I'm using Safari 5.1 and Firefox 3.6.8 on the Mac. Here's my relevant code:

I have tried many different emethods of embedding the .swf object in the website I am currently working on. I have use the code from the publish option which didn't work at all.I also tried the SWFObject javascript thing, and that worked, but It wouldn't auto play and there wasn't anyway to set it. So far all the code I have tried works in Opera 9/10 and IE7/8, but not in firefox or chrome.[code]

I created an app that works with Twitter, it works that way: One person keeping watching the search with some word. When she found one post that is relevant she send a message to the person, this message is a ad from the company that is my client.
On the message have one link that send the user to our website, using the GET function on PHP. It send the nick and the avatar of the person who received the message. It's working fine until here.On my website i received the two variables (id and avatar) and send to flash using this:
Code:
<param name="FlashVars" value="foto=<?php echo $foto;?>" />
but i also tried this:
Code:
<param name="FlashVars" value="&foto=<?php echo $foto;?>" />
<param name="FlashVars" value="&foto=<?php echo $foto;?>&" />
I read that is important to put this on the embebed tag, like this:
Code:
FlashVars="foto=<?php echo $foto;?>"
On my file in flash i tried a lot of options, but nothing works, the last ones are:
1.
Code:
_root.foto;
2.
Code:
_level0.foto;
But booth returned: "undefined" I'm PHP developer, so I don't have any skill on action script.

I'm working on a project which allowing end users to embed a flash in their own HTML pages while we offer different ways so user could choose one that works for their circumstances, for example, most blogs doesn't welcome users to inject JavaScript on their pages, therefore SWFObject wouldn't be possible, we offered two other ways: IFrame and the oldie but goodie Object/Embed pair. Just like old Youtube embedding code:

This has been driving me nuts. I've worked with SWFObject in the past which is great. However I have a requirement not to use JavaScript. So when I try to do flashvars examples all over the net, they don't seem to work for me. Steps to repeat:
1) Create a pure AS3 project using Flex or Flash Builder
2) In the index.html wherever there is a .swf, add a name value pair suffix.
test.swf?foo=bar
3) In the constructor of the main class Sprite, trace(root.loaderInfo.parameters.foo).
Expected: bar but traces out as undefined I've tried setTimeout() to evaluate 5 seconds in the future, still doesn't work as if it's not loaded at all.
