View 3 RepliesI'm rebuilding this embedable player for a client of mine, the video file URL and a couple of other variables are in the HTML as Flashvars. I suspect something is wrong with the code that looks for the flashvars.
The top part showing the green box is where the player didn't load because it was unable to obtain the Flashvars form the HTML. The player below has the Flashvars string hardcoded into the player so it works.
I believe the problem lies somewhere below Perhaps something wrong with the way I'm trying to pull in the Flashvars?
// LIVE Embedded
//vidURL = stage.loaderInfo.parameters.fvar;
vidURL = this.loaderInfo.parameters.fvar;

I thought it was a problem with my Try / Catch statement, but in reality my issue is really just trying to do a check in an If / Else statement to see if my Flash player can obtain any data from a flashVar. If flashVar VID = great, Else read from an XML file.Basically this is what I need to have happen:
Check to see if there are flashVar values
If so then load the other Class files and DO NOT get the XML file
If not then run the code in the Catch statement and load the XML file
UPDATED CODE I put a lot of comments to explain what I'm trying to do :(
public function playerLive():void
{
// Attempt to load from HTML EMBED[code]......
I have tried this and it doesn't seem to work. In the example below the movie on the right (boy in the hat) is embedded using this procedure but the two on the left (paws moving on order button and dog animation) had to be installed using Dreamweaver's swf installation methodology. and, consequently the dog animation does not show up in Explorer 8 and some other browsers.

I am changing the flashvars variables v1=value&v2=value ect then after the flash movie runs I am changing the variables externally by javascript, so far so good.when flash first loads it reads the vars correctly.when I try to read them ( after the change ) it keeps reading the old values.[code]everything works except I cannot seem to read the changed FlashVars.
View 1 RepliesI want to pass flashVars to my swf file via swfObject. I used every sample and codes I found on the internet and swfObject documentation.When I use simple html embed code it works fine but when I use swf object it just return null values.send me a working sample of swfObject sending flashVars to swf (AS3)
View 3 RepliesI have a flash file with an xml file as flashvars. when I use this code it works in every browser, but not in IE 7 or higher.

After reading a lot, SWFObject seem to be a good option. All u need to do is:
1- Include swfobject.js in header
2- Create an empty div for the flash object to be included
<div id="myContent">
<p>Alternative content</p>
</div>[code].....
The only problem I have is: I don't know how to pass the flashvars via a url for an xml file. It seems to me that SWFObject does not support this. Instead, you need to create a list of flashvars as
var flashvars = {
name1: "hello",
name2: "world",[code]....
this is the code i'm working with right now:

I have a flashvar on my html page which is currently being sent to my .swf file which is working fine. I now want to add multiple flashvars, but I'm having a tough time trying to access them in a loop. The idea is to have it working something similar to how a for in or each loop would work so that I can call the flashvar, and get the values of all flashvars.[code]I'd like to have all of the content in my var_txt textfield.
View 1 RepliesI have a flash component calling an external xml file configurable via the component inspector (I mean the location of the xml file). What I need is to pass the xml location as a flashvar variable from the html code. When I debug my flash, I can see the xml variable as Variable _level0. myBook.extXML = "URL...So, I am trying to add the flashvar to swfobject as so.addParam("flashVars","extXML=sample.xml"); //any xml what i need.It does not work and does not pass the variable.

I am trying to take a PHP variable and pass it along to Flash via Flash vars. My end goal is to pass a string formatted as XML to Flash, but because I'm struggling I've stripped everything down to the basics. I'm just trying to pass a simple PHP string variable to Flash via FlashVars with SWFObject but something isn't right. The page won't load when I try to pass the variable inside of php tags, but it will load if I just pass a hard coded string. The basic structure of my page is that I have some PHP declared at the top like so:[code]How do I pass a PHP variable using SWFObject and FlashVars?
View 2 RepliesI've tried to send some parameters to my flash app by flashvars. Unfortunently, it doesnt work. To embde flash I'm using SWFObject 2.2. I also use lib SWFAddress 2.4 (I'm stating this, because I've heard that some versions of swfobject and swfaddress are not compatible).

I've tried many solutions and read many tutorial or forumposts, but I havent found any that solves my problem.
I have never used flashVars, even in AS2, but the project I'm working on requires that I use since my client is going to use dynamic urls defined as expressions and he wants to have control without having to edit a fla file. I have read a lot of tutorials and can't seem to come up with a solution. Basically what I want is to load my Flashvars defined in swfObject, each one holding an expression, for example:

How will I accomplish the same thing in as3? I know you have to get flashVars using .loaderInfo but that as far as i got.

This has been driving me nuts. I've worked with SWFObject in the past which is great. However I have a requirement not to use JavaScript. So when I try to do flashvars examples all over the net, they don't seem to work for me. Steps to repeat:
1) Create a pure AS3 project using Flex or Flash Builder
2) In the index.html wherever there is a .swf, add a name value pair suffix.
test.swf?foo=bar
3) In the constructor of the main class Sprite, trace(root.loaderInfo.parameters.foo).
Expected: bar but traces out as undefined I've tried setTimeout() to evaluate 5 seconds in the future, still doesn't work as if it's not loaded at all.

I want to pass the state and city variable to the swf file from the swfobject and then display the content of the variable from the xml file.
SWFOBJECT
<script type="text/javascript">
YUE.onDOMReady(function() {var so = new SWFObject("assets/promoKiosk.swf","amenities","628","600","8","#FFF" );
so.addParam("wmode","transparent");

I'm following the steps here: [URL]..I'm embedding it this way:

It turns out that the flash content is not visibie at all,why?
I'm building a website using Flex, Codeigniter, and I use swfobject to embed the swf. This will not work if I access the website using Codeigniter's index.php file. This is the ouput source:
[Code]...
My guess is that swfobject.js is not detected by codeigniter..
I tried SwfObject for loading swf on a website. It is all good with webkit and mozila based browsers but not with IE.[URL].. In IE 8 the footer not loading, it like crashes after the swf loads. In IE 7 the player not working, so the footer loads.
How can I debug it? I have a Mac, Linux, Win7 with IE 8 64 bit. On IE 64-bit it gives a message to update the flash player but there is no update for this player from Adobe.
For some abstract reasons I can't get this to work...No matter how I try to embed my flash with swfobject, the html file doesn't display the flash file.
View 3 RepliesI'm using swfobject to embed my flash. I've created a simple textfield using FlexBuilder. It's an AS3 project, which extends Sprite. I've set its width to be 640 and height to 450. Then, in the swfobject parameters of the page, I've also set 640 x 450. I've made the background nice and red and ugly so you can see it. [URL]. It seems to be the right dimensions.
But I've got a textfield which is supposed to be almost the same size and height. This runs fine in FlexBuilder (is the right size) but is all messed up once I add swfobject Can anyone see what is happening? I just looked at it and it looks ok. But then I refreshed the page and the textfield is postage-stamp size (again -- this is the original behavior I saw.) It's now looking OK in firefox but not in IE8. Flash is supposed to look the same in all browsers?
AS3 code:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.text.TextField;
import flash.text.TextFormat;
import flash.text.Font;
[Code] .....
Here's my code:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>[code]....
It works with Firefox and Chrome, but something's not quite right in IE6. Sadly, one of the project requirements is supporting this browser, so even if it workis in IE7, I need to work this out.I know there's SWFObject, but I'd rather not use it (we are loading already a bunch of JS files, we don't want more).Even this won't work:
<script>
document.write('<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HPPj6viIBmU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param [code]....
It seems that IE6 ignores the <object> tag, here's the code it embeds.
<EMBED src=http://www.youtube.com/v/HPPj6viIBmU&hl=en_US&fs=1& width=480 height=385 type=application/x-shockwave-flash allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></EMBED>
i am wanting to know how much I can be sure that users of my website will not be able to pass bogus variables to my Flash movie. Basically I will have some features available to certain users and I realise that for the average user they will not know anything about how to send spoof vars but is it possible for someone to change the variables sent using SWFObject when a page loads and thus be able to use the functionality that I am trying to disable for them.I have a PHP (my_flash_movie.php) page that calls a function from an included globals.php file to determine if the user can see the restricted functionality is_ user_a_subscriber($_SESSION['user_id']); which returns 1 or 0. This 1 or 0 is then passed to Flash which enables or disables certain features. I dont want someone to be able to send a 1 instead of a 0 basically. This isnt a site where security is critical and the functionality that is disabled is not really critical either so wouldnt be too bad if this happened but im just curious about this and wondering if I should think of another way to pass these vars that might be more hidden.
View 3 RepliesI'm using swfobject to load a flash object on my site and it's loading very slowly on pages with a lot of data...as if swfobject waits until the page loads before loading the swf. Here's an example page with swfobject: [URL] If I change out the swfobject code with an iframe (with the swf as the src) or just use object embed, the flash object loads much, much faster...before the rest of the page loads.
I know there are a ton of page load time improvements I could make to that page (I'm working on that as well), but I'm wondering if there are some specific changes I could make to the way I'm using swfobject to get the same loading speed as an iframe or object embed?
I'm using the following code to embed the swf and load a file via flashvars. It works fine in firefox...but does not work in IE. I'm convinced that the issue is in my html syntax. Can anyone spot the problem?
<script type="text/javascript">
swfobject.embedSWF("myflash.swf", "banner", "300", "300", "9.0.0", false, {}, {wmode: "transparent"},{flashvars: "xmlfile=http://www.mydomain.com/directory/file.xml"});
function closeAd(id){
document.getElementById(id).style.display='none';
}
</script>
I have a simple html page with some javascript where if i click a link, it will show a flash video in a div using the swfobject.embedSWF function. I did a test: Uninstalled flash from my machine, then reloaded the page and clicked the link...I correctly saw no video. I then installed flash and came back to the same page (no reload) and the embed still won't work. I know in swfobject 1.5 (I'm now using 2.2), I would be able to embed the swf after the user installs flash, but now the user needs to reload the page in order to get the flash to appear. This is not good for my current situation, anyone know what is going on here? Here is sample code using a youtube video:

I had to convert an AS2 clicktag script to AS3. It complies and works locally, but I was told I need to use the FlashVars to embed/place a variable (a URL) in the swf before it even starts.This is something I haven't experimented with (yet)I've seen examples and I kind of understand it, but I was hoping on some clarification
var flashVars=root.loaderInfo.parameters;
I understand the dot synatx (enjoy using it), and the root is probably the begining (where it will place the sting) Im a bit confussied on the loaderinfo and the parameters what are here functions in the command.
var clickTAG = flashVars["clickTAG"];
then using the flashVars Im unsure on the use of square brackets (instead of using curly braces)Best guess:This will take the string passed to it "a url" clickTAG and use the flashvars to embed/place it in the root/begining tagged as "clickTAG"?
I am trying to generate an <object> tag only embed code and cannot get Firefox to pass Flash along the FlashVars values. This seems to work everyplace else that I've tried it but fails in Firefox. Here is a sample of the embed that I'm using:
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0" width="550" height="400" id="Main" align="middle" data="Main.swf">
<param name="movie" value="Main.swf" />
[code]....
note that the Flash experience does show up in Firefox but when I do traces and actually run the application this fails to read the values.
