View 1 RepliesI'm making a highscore table in flash using AS3, I have successfully got working code that displays the names and the scores but also part of my high score table it needs to display the users country flag. The images for the flags are stored on a remote server.
Now I know how to load in a single image and add it to my movie clip but things get very complicated when I want to load in 20+ by iterating through a loop. I've looked at many examples and just cant adopt the sample code to work for me. Anyway without a further a do here is what I have so far.

I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?
View 15 RepliesAll I'm trying to do is load an external .swf file into a precise location on the stage of my existing Flash file. I've spent an hour and a half on this site search and found nothing. What do I add to my loadMovie command to place the file at specific x,y coordinates?
View 3 RepliesIs there a way to load multiple images with a loop and an array... i mean without using xml as said all forums that i've already read... i have 15 images and i want to know if it's possible to load all of them without a loader and a URLRequest for each one... there is the position problem too.[code]...
View 9 RepliesI have a swf file, which plays 6 videos one after the other in a loop. This file is very huge so it is taking more than a minute for it to start playing after the page finished loading. I have taken the original video file, and split it into 6 files. I plan to have 6 tiles in the flash file as soon as the page loads, and when some tile is clicked, the video is loaded dynamically only that video or swf file so that it saves the loading time and once this is done, i want it to revert back to the main page with tiles. I am just starting off with flash and I have no clue how this is possible in flash. I am not asking for code, i need some tips to get started.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to load multiple images by iterating through a for loop. For each image I instantiate a loader and send a loader request. I want to stop the iteration of the loop and cancel all loader requests sent, in case a user navigates out of the screen. How can I do this?
View 2 RepliesI'm using AS3. I have multiple swf files to load in an array, and then play them from a master swf file. I've found scripts that can do that, but I can't find one to continuously loop through the swf files. I need a script that can load multiple swf files, then loop through them all. This is for a tradeshow display that needs to run all day. They are large files, so memory is a concern.
View 1 Repliesi'm trying to load a bunch of swfs and attach them to a movieclip from the library which is then placed on stage.I'm able to do it, but for some reason only the last swf in my name is being added into my clip (from the library).Would anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening?
ActionScript Code:
var swfNames:Array = new Array("1.swf","2.swf","3.swf","4.swf");
var l:Loader = new Loader();
[code]......
I am using the following codeIn actions for Frame 1:
var myrequest:URLRequest=new URLRequest("A.swf"); var myloader:Loader=new Loader();myloader.load(myrequest);img1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickButton);function clickButton(event:MouseEvent):void{

I have an AS3 .fla that loads an external XML file of image names, and then iteratively loads the images into the .fla. All this works great. What I want is to create a preloader that is aware of the size of all these external images. As far as I can tell there's no way to do this, but I'm hoping someone here is smarter than I am.
I tried Lee Brimelow's method of having a separate SWF whose only job is to load another SWF in its place. This doesn't work because the preloader's call to .bytesTotal only reads the bytes of the main SWF, not of the external XML or JPGs that are dynamically loaded into it. So the result is the preloader reaches 100% when the main SWF is loaded, but that happens really quickly and the bulk of the load time comes after the 100% mark, when the main SWF starts loading in images.
The more I think about this, the more it seems that you can never access the .bytesTotal property until you've already instantiated the loader and called the .load() method. Am I wrong? Is there a way to fetch just the SIZE of an external file without actually initiating the act of loading the file into memory?
Anyway i want to try load multiple movieclips using a for loop and displaying them in different spots.
Code:
for(i = 1; i < 5; i++){
createEmptyMovieClip(["target"+i] , i);
[Code]....
First of all , how can i change that "stub1.swf" to change its value like stub1.swf, stub2.swf stub3.swf etc. Also, it doesnt seem to create multiple movieclips; it only makes the one.
I'm very new to flash - I'm trying to use a pre-loader that loads an external SWF file. Its working except the percentage in the bar is actually reflecting how much of the entire page is loaded, not how much of just the flash banner is loaded. The result is that the percentage bar is still visible over the top of the flash banner when it begins to play and the percentage bar continues to load until the whole page is loaded.

How do I wait for an external .txt file to load in ActionScript 3? If I use URLLoader, I have no guarantee that the file has loaded, since it dispatches an event when it's complete. I'm calling the loader function from another class, so I can't simply stick the next actions into the event listener.

I have a group of 16 images that I would like to load 1 of each into each movieclip. I want image1 to be inside of visual1, image 2 inside of visual2, and so on. the images are named like, 1960s_(1).png where the 1960 (year) part is coming from the rangeNum variable. The above gives me this error: 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method addChild through a reference with static type int.
I 'm checking to see if an image file exist but I don't think the code checks but the last iteration in the loop. Here's my code:

fix this or if you know a better way to check if an image file exist could you let me know.
I am talking about doing something like this: [URL]
from flash by using ExternalInterface probably
I have my preloader loading my main swf where I'm loading another swf that contains a background.
When my preloader is done it shows my main swf but it takes a while after that for the background to load.
Whats the easiest way to get my preloader to wait until the background swf is done loading?
I have this Simple Flash banner, that loads text, colors, and entire banner hyperlink from external .txt file into flash.For importing text into dynamic text fields with vars set i use
loadVariables("http://www.mysite.com/DIR/data.txt","");
For importing hyperlink onto flash button i use two layers:On blank layer i use:
loadVariables("http://www.mysite.com/DIR/data.txt","");
On button itself i use:
on (release) {
getURL(link1, "_blank");
}
Button has instance set also.Everything works fine and nicely.I use this HTML script to use banner in any website i like:
<object classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
codebase="http://active.macromedia.com/flash4/cabs/swflash.cab#version=4,0,0,0"
id="name" width="468" height="60">
[code]....
Ok So everything works nicely. I load flash i load text, and i also load hyperlink. So after a happy job i went to sleep and other morning i tried to enter website with HTML code, that shows flash and i noticed:
1. Some times flash loads animation, but doesn't load my data.txt and places where dynamic text should be are blank, also hyperlink doesnt work, because it also seems to fail to load.
2. So i press "Refresh" on explorer and data loads perfectly.
3. So i keep pressing refresh some times try to turn of explorer and i noriced that some times it fails to load data and only non dynamic flash animation is played, and some times it loads it nicely.
i have 2 flash file,one is mine (the main container) and one is a external swf.i want to load the external swf to my container swf.i write this code in my as2 container code inside the main timeline flash (mine flash) -----first of all i add a movie clip with instance name mc1 to the first layer
Code:
mc1._lockroot = true;
mc1.loadMovie("external.swf");
countdown = function(){
[code]....
i really try to use that code - BUT !!! -> if i use this code the external swf predominant my main swf code and all the rest of my code dosent work (like timer of trace)....
Structure: There is 1 main file that loads external SWF files depending on what is clicked on.One of the external SWF files loads its text from external text files. This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? It runs fine on its own, just not as an external SWF.

mc1._lockroot = true;
mc1.loadMovie("external.swf");
countdown = function(){
trace("ok");
}
countdownIt = setInterval(countdown,1000);
This code works fine in most of the cases, but I found many SWFs files that it dosen't work with. These SWFs and work with the following code instead:
loadMovieNum("external.swf",0);
countdown = function(){
trace("ok");
}
countdownIt = setInterval(countdown,1000);
I really try to use that code - BUT !!! -> if I use this code the external SWF predominant, my main SWF code and all the rest of my code dosen't work (like the setInterval() timer).... I want to load the SWF like the second example and still run the setInterval() function.
What I have is one swf with buttons, pressing one loads another swf containing several thumbnails (all thumbnails should be images loaded externally). Pressing one of the thumbnails should load yet another swf containing a large image of that thumbnail.This is what I have done so far (this is for the swf containing all the thumbnails):[code]This ActionScript automatically loads the 1.swf containing the larger image of the first thumbnails without waiting for the user to click the mouse.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to go through a for loop, create a movieclip for each database entry, add the image by url stored. The problem is the code I have only does the last image. I know it's because something is not incrementing and they all have the same name. Do I need to increment the name of my loader?[code]...
View 11 RepliesIs there any way to load an external image and add it to more than one movie clip?
View 3 RepliesI want to load the first swf, if the load is complete, load the second swf, etc. This seems logical but I get a compile error: Scene 1, Layer 'scripts', Frame 1, Line 24 1120: Access of undefined property swfLoader3.[code]...
View 3 RepliesIf you load say 3 external images in AS3 and want to run a function "useImages()" only once all three images have loaded what is the best way of listening for them to complete loading.
EG;
loader1.addEventListener(Eveent.COMPLETE, incLoader)
loader2.addEventListener(Eveent.COMPLETE, incLoader)
loader2.addEventListener(Eveent.COMPLETE, incLoader)

how to load and also unload(removing) multiple external SWF.
so here is what i;m trying to do, i want to load multiple external SWF and play it on my main SWF now i hove no problem with just loading multiple SWF and placing it in the display list .The problem came up when i tried removing those loaded SWF from the display list ,The problem exist because i have no way to refer to what i have loaded and placed on the display list,
i used a single loader instance to load all that external swf, i do know that we have to remove all the event listener related to the external SWF that we want to remove and for this purpose i have crated a function called destroy which the main objective for this function is to remove all event listener inside the swf and also isolating all variable so it would be eligible for garbage collecting, here is what the code look like:
[Code].....
I am trying to create a basic flash script to load an external swf file using MovieClipLoader class. Here's my code:
var myMCL:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var myListener:Object = new Object();
myMCL.addListener(myListener);
myMCL.loadClip("splash.swf",5);
I simply copied it from a tutorial. Unfortunately it throws an error message as follows:
1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: MovieClipLoader
1180: Call to a possibly undefined method.
PS: I have CS3 professional in my machine but I am following Flash 8 book. But my CS3 application supports AS1, 2 and 3.
When i try to load an external swf file using Loader.Load(); The swf starts playing even before the init event is fired. Is there any way to stop the swf from playing atleast until the init event or complete event is fired?
