Flash :: Sifr 2.0.7 Only Working When Font Is Installed On User's Computer?
Apr 1, 2010
I am using sifr 2.0.7 and here's the deal. The sifr is working (I can see it in the DOM) however, the font is wrong. It doesn't pick up my swf font (DIN) unless you have it installed on your computer? The css font style is: HelveticaNeue which is what the sifr seems to render if you don't have DIN installed.I see it on my computer but my friend see DIN.

The navigation buttons in my .fla file are set to the font, Arial MT in Bold. It displays no problem on my desktop computer. However, when I view the website on my laptops, the font changes to what looks to be something like Times New Roman. The same thing happens with my "Read More" button text. It's also originally in Arial MT Bold. On my desktop it appears fine but on my 2 laptops it appears to be in Times New Roman. This is more of an issue because I have these buttons underlined. When viewing in my laptops, these underlines appear to be too long. If I shorten it, it'll probably appear to be too short when I view on my desktop. How can I get the font to be one consistent font for all computers?

I am trying to implement a large font for sIFR, but it seems to have a ceiling where you cant go any higher. I have adjusted the the variable MAX_FONT_SIZE within the sIFR.as to no avail. Is this possible or is it a limitation with flash?

I'm trying to embed a font in my project by using url("font.ttf") rather than local("Font Name"), but it doesn't seem to pick it up. The font in question is called "Gotham Bold". When i view the details of the font, the font weight is regular, however when i use local("Gotham Bold") in the css i have to specify fontWeight: bold or else it wont pick it up. But when I use url("folderGotham-Bold.ttf"), and specify fontWeight: bold, it says that font weight is not found for that TTF. If i remove the fontweight, there's no errors, but the font is not applied to the text.

So I've looked this up in a few different places, and the only answer I've seen is "style the span.sIFR-alternate element". Problem is, if I apply any styles to that element that will actually have it appear & be placed correctly, it shows up alongside the sIFR text when FlashBlock isn't present (e.g. in Safari/IE) or is disabled. Here's the default styles for .sIFR-alternate:

I am trying to use sIFR to replace the headlines (e.g. The Tour of A Lifetime) on this page: [URL] The font I want to swap in is Verlag by hoefler & frere jones. I had this working the other day but it suddenly stopped working: the font does not replace. All the js/css/flash files are linked correctly. I tested my verlag.swf and it works. And, I tested sIFR with a different font and the replacement worked. Am I having issues because I have yet to buy a Verlag license for the server?

I've been working on a small simple air application and an interesting question has come up. Assuming the application will be a stand alone item when installed on the client's computer - what is the best way to store and present the associated dynamic data with the project?
Right now I have the data saved as three external XML files. I suppose the question is - how do I make the XML data an integral part of the app? Should I keep it in a separate file system or should I put the XML data directly into an AS file - or - should I consider some other method of storing the relevant data. (An Array or ?) The data is not a huge amount, but it is adding up to be several hundred items.

check out this website first for what I'm going for:
[URL]
The header is a graphic of a guy's head and a car.
I want to design the same kind of page but my header graphic will have a cartoon head instead of that guy's head and it will animate.
Now If the user does not have flash installed I would like to have a static header image appear, like a .jpeg or a .gif, instead of the .swf header.

I'm wondering wether there's a Javascript way to detect wether a user has any sort of flash blocking plugin installed so i can accommodate these users properly. For example, I use 'click to flash', but sites that use SiFR to render text are littered with "click to flash" buttons, which is getting very annoying. I don't use SiFR in my designs for this reason. But if I could spot wether there's a flash blocking plugin installed, I would simply not call the SiFR function.

I embedded some characters using embed tag in flash CS3(font.swf). 2 separate swf(a.swf,b.swf) loads the font.swf on runtime. These 2 swf are being called from a container(parent) swf. It looks find locally and not time consuming to load. But when I view it from a server, computer lags after a while....(all file sizes are relatively small.around 160kb). What needs to be done in order to prevent computer from lagging? Is it better to load font.swf not in separate swf but directly in container(parent).swf?

In my Flash application, I would like a user to be able to import a picture from their hard drive. Basically, the app allows the user to customize an object. One of the steps of customization should be to add an image of their choice.
Is there a way in Flash to allow the user to pick a file from their hard drive, which is then read into memory and made accessible to an application? I would like to take the data and upload it to a server to store it for future sessions.

I've made a Flash project which uses a lot of animations based on Actionscript, and I've checked that in old computers those animations have a low framerate. So in order to optimize it, I thought to disable some of them depending on the capabilities of the user's computer, but the only thing I've found which could be useful is the property System.totalMemory
Is there any way to calculate the user's CPU performance in order to act in consequence? In these cases, would it be useful to replace some vector graphics with bitmaps? If I'm not wrong it would make use of more memory but would lower CPU charge, wouldn't it?

I've been searching for quite a while now on a few different sites for information on testing the cpu speed of users computers. I've done this search before about a month ago and remember fidning something about this. Problem is, now I can't seem to find anything. The reason I need to know is because I have an MC on my stage which is using actionscript to animate but on older computers with slow cpu's all the animation slows down terribly. I would like to be able to test cpu speed and redirect to a different page based on cpu speed.

I'm using Flex 4. I'm trying to apply a embedded font in all Alert components of the application, to get the same style that all the app, of course. I code in my CSS file:
[Code]...
The font-family worked to all componentes, but not to the Alert component. In alert the text message and title got unvisible. If I change to other font-family it works correctly, just the embedded font doesn't work on Alert component. Anyone got this problem? Obs: The embedded font worked in all the app, just the Alert no.

how to allow the user to upload some image of his/her choice from his/her local computer, plus adding some control on size and dimension limit.
I've seen this performed for instance in webs where they sell sunglasses. The movie allows you to upload your own picture of yourself so that you can virtually try them on.

On the site [URL] there is a .swf that prevents users from opening multiple instances of the site at the same time on the same computer. If you open the site, and try to open it a second time in another window, it won't load. You can't open the site again until the first window is closed. How did they implement this?
From my analysis it is NOT:
1. Cookies - The block still takes place if you try opening it in IE and also try opening it in Firefox simultaneously.
2. Flash Cookies - The block still takes place if I disable flash cookies.
3. IP Based Block - You are not blocked if you open the site on two separate computers with the same outbound IP address. From my analysis, their server does not assist in the block at all.
It seems as if their .swf is creating some kind of global system-wide object that can be detected in other instances of the application on the same machine. How did they implement this?

Fastest - Same pc configuration, different time (seconds) To index - get a list of absolute links (like c://bla-bla/file ) and save them into file (index.txt) All images (like JPEGs, PNGs)
