How would I go about appending (not just changing the entire text area to this img, actually appending) a simple 25x25 image sprite into a text area in a flex project? using actionscript? (not mxml)
(it has to be a spark text area component, mostly because this is a flex mobile project and thats all thats optimized for mobile)
edit: I guess I should have said this, i know html text is the way to go about it. But my real confusion lies with first it being a Sprite, so i dont have a url to link to. It's an actual sprite var (it would be a file sent over the network in bytes, and saved in a sprite object.) and then the second part where im lost is APPENDING it to the text inline, so it doesnt replace any of the text already in the text area, and will be scrollable in the text area.
also, remember im trying to append this to a SPARK TEXT AREA component. I know i could just make a text field instance and thats it, but i cant find any information about appending this to a text area
EDIT AGAIN:
SInce there was some confusion about the sprite im trying to append, this is how the image is being transmitted,
it's starting out as just a standard cameraphone image, then..
var fs:FileStream = new FileStream();
fs.open(new File(imageURL), FileMode.READ);
var bytes:ByteArray = new ByteArray();
[Code]....
So then finally I have the image in imageSprite... and that brings us to my main problem appending this image in a TEXT AERA spark component. With an end result that will have the look of a picture message sent on an android or iphone.
I'm playing around with a messaging type of application. Does anyone know how, or of any tutorials on to "appending" html text to text areas in flex and flex mobile projects? And specifically how I could take that and basically "append" a sprite inline to the text when i need to? Something simple like:Username: some text right here!So, Anyone have any experience "appending" sprites or simple text formatting?how to solve these issues!EDIT:Based on an answer below it was sugguested that it's as simple as...textAreaInstance.htmlText += "<b>Username:</b> some text right here!";But its not. you can't do .htmltext with a text area. you can on a text field, so i tried
var TF:TextField = new TextField(); TF.width = 200; TF.height = 200;
I feel like every time I need to use TextField or anything else related in AS3, it becomes a giant mess of code just for a few lines.I have tried using css as well for text but have encountered some issues where it isn't rendered the same on different servers/clients. Are there any text handling libraries that I don't know of or some other way to manage text in AS3?
I recently had to tell a client that I didn't want to work on their project because I was unclear about something. When you append a recording from a stream does the metadata get updated correctly after the append? I've worked with metadata before and from my recolection anytime a .flv was changed I had to manually update the metadata.
Got a client that says that Flash ( a panel that is pulling information from a database and simply displaying it in text field.) is not working in IE7. I told them that this is impossible as Flash is completely crossbrowser compatible. Am I missing something?? Is it a possibility?
I've dynamically created sprites with graphics and added a text field dynamically to each sprite, displaying different text. These sprites (checkers in this case) are draggable. Without the text added to it, the drag area is very precise, dragging only when the circle is selected. However, when I dynamically add the text, there's a significant portion underneath and to the side of the sprite that is also draggable. This is really annoying when one sprite is placed above another because trying to move the sprite below causes the sprite with a lower y coordinate to move even though it shouldn't. When I tried to define a width and height for the text field to avoid this unnecessary space, it made the text much too small!
There must be some way to make it so only the graphics and text are draggable. I don't even mind if there is a square (like the old Flash 5 movie clip square) around the combined object, but there shouldn't be the white draggable space.
For reference, here is the code:
Code:
var i:int = 0; var Rwidth:uint = 20; var Rlength:uint = 20;
I would like to first add the xml to my flash. Fine I can do this.But I have a number of buttons, where when I click say CW1, i get the information from the XML file with a node of CW1. I have all the xml set up fine.As I have about eight different postcode types.
ST, CW, CH, TF, WV, WS, DE, SK, SY, and each of these may have numbers that follow, i.e ST1, ST2, ST3 and so forth.
So I can only assume that the postal area could be the main nodes, and the numbers inside the child nodes, am I right thus far.o how can i load the area of the xml file into my text area on mouse click, pulling the information relating.
I want to dynamically resize and align a Sprite with a DropShadowFilter so it fits all Stage but in a way that the Shadow keeps visible.
The problem is that when I resize the Sprite it fits the Stage but it doesn't take the filter in consideration and the shadow is drawn outside the stage.
For example:
imageSprite.filters = createFilters(); // this method creates the DropShadowFilter var s : Sprite = new Sprite();
[Code]....
Resizing Sprite 's' has the same effect as resizing 'imageSprite' and I couldn't find a way to get the size of the image+shadow.
I just want to do not allow editing at some area of text area in flex. How it can be done?let suppose text length in text area is 50 characters, i want to allow editing if cursor position is less than 15, and if cursor position in text area is greater than 15 it should not allow user to add more text in text area.If user press any key it should not add any character in text area.[code]
I'm using the dynamic text scroller from [URL] found at [URL] Here's a link to my zipped files too... [URL]
1) I can't figure out how to have URL links in the text that loads.
2) How can I make the scroller refresh to allow for new text in the dynamic text area. The content changes alright, but the scroller stays in the same position and if it wasn't needed initially, the scroller disappears and doesn't return on new text.
I'm trying to input some data that I get with the library Capabilities.I want to show version, language etc in a text area but I can only input just one capabilitie at the time.This is what I have at the moment
I need to put together an editable text area that has a custom caret (cursor) which is different from the default blinking vertical line. Is the caret a "skinnable" property of text input? note that I am not asking about the mouse pointer cursor which can be set using the CursorManager.
Creating an RSS reader. One feature is that should parse several "category" nodes from a feed. But when I load a feed, the category doesn't shows up in the text area. Flash returns no errors. Heres the code -
I was wondering if there is a limit to how much Jaws (screen reader) can read in a text area in Flash. my text area contains about 15 lines, and always it stops reading at a certain point. In one test I was deleting one word, and then Jaws read one more for me(since I guess I deleted one). So it looks like there is a limit on how much it can read through AccessibiltyDescription property . How I can make the Jaws to read the whole content in the text area? I am working with flashbuilder and SDK 4.1.
I followed the tutorial "ActionScript 3 XML Basics" but it left out how to add the link from the xml file to the text area of flash. Does anyone know the actionscript code to do this?[code]
I have a movie clip named circle_mc(see the image on the link below) and a mask object(movie clip) which determines visible area of the circle. User can change the portion which is visible (extend the red area and make it red+blue, gray area is invisible). I need to find proportion of visible area to invisible area (red+blue/gray) so that I can calculate angle.
I want to make auto width text area. Using xml to pull the data, I would like to expand as data comes in. menu_item_group["menu_item" + i].item_label = nodes i].attributes.item_label; For example: enlarged according to the context menus in this example, the background [URL]
Is there a way to set a clip area for a movie clip or sprite so that it will not draw out of that particular area? I am using a drop shadow, and it doesn't look right if the shadow passes a certain boundary, so I wanted to find a way to force it not to draw out of a particular area.
First time posting, and limited experience with Flash, however I have some decent exposure to coding, so I decided to search the web for a nice Flash Gallery Animated Script 2.0. However when I code my gallery everything is non-responsive. Is it because I have a newer version of Flash and the coding is for an older one?
I need to append 4 letters to my variable name when referencing it to get either spanish or english XML data. I am trying to reuse my functions without writing an if statement.
like so:
//two options for var spa_my_videos:XMLList; var eng_my_videos:XMLList;
Due to the target website restriction, it only accepts swf file, and I want to pass parameter to this, So I post http:[url]............pass the file parameter this way, and This worked before, But now it doesn't, Where do I do wrong?
I've been unable to locate and have used other forums and have been unable to recieve assistance doing what I want, and the funny part is, what I am trying to do seems like it would be sooo simple. I'm trying to use an xml file to load a series of images into a movie clip. here is how the stage is setup:
MAIN STAGE -> MOVIE CLIP -> SCROLL PANE -> MOVIE CLIP
The one in bold is where the images need to be loaded, the setup looks something like this: The red outlined white box is where the pictures need to end up, it is a movie clip inside a scroll pane so that the images can scroll. There is no captions, no clicking, no anything, just images that need to sit one above the other. The scroll pane is named apparelcontentbox and the movie clip within the pane is need apparelcontent.
I'm doing a simple rotation on a sprite but there's a weird behavior where the sprite does not rotate around it's top left. I think I'm rotating along the top left of the test class instead of the sprite child. I would like to rotate the rectangle around it's top left corner (kinda like a clock hand). The code is pretty short so I'll let the code + pictures explain my problem:
package { import flash.display.Sprite;
[Code]....
I've read a lot of stuff about rotating around a fixed point, I've tried doing it with movieclips instead of sprites, I even copy pasted a tutorial on rotation and nothing works.
