I'm working on a new project in Flex with a CakePHP backend and since I'm using Mate, I wanted to use the RemoteObject stuff it does to call CakePHP.First I tried just doing one call at a time in CakePHP but I saw that that would mean a lot of endpoints, so I looked into some like amfphp for cakephp. I saw that Zend AMF is now the successor to AMFPHP so I wanted to try to integrate it.
I probably spent 8 hours on the final solution that is probably 10 lines of code.So without further ado I give you FlexibleCake: a CakePHP controller that acts as an AMF Endpoint and is able to instantiate and call any controller / method. I also built a "tester" or "explorer" app that allows you to send requests to the end point and visualize the result.

PS there where some changes I had to make to the core CakePHP classes to make it work. It only involved modifying the comments in the model.php class I believe (since Zend AMF reads the comments to gather metadata for the functions called).
I've been searching for the last couple days but can't seem to find a basic example of what I'm looking for. I'm developing a Flex 4.5 app and in it I have a viewstack of 2 components that use some of the same services. Currently the only way I can get the app to correctly use the web services is by defining 2 different web services that use the same PHP web service file. For example: I have an app, and within it I have a viewstack with tab navigation of 2 components: #1) retrieve a list of all Salary Employees, and #2) retrieve a list of all Contractors. Currently to get it working I am defining a UsersTableEmployees webservice within component #1 and a UsersTableContractors webservice within component #2, but they both point to the same PHP class, and only differ in the arugment value I pass to them. Ie, getUsers("employee") and getUsers ("contractors"). Of course this is not best practice.
Searching StackOverflow and Google gives me many results about ColdFusion and MVC (example What's the best way to share data between components in Flex?), but I'm still confused. Can anyone here point me to a basic example (even sample MVC) and source code of an app that uses Zend AMF and allows different components to call common web services?

Installed fms4 x64 on windows server 2008 to try it out. When I open up task manager to check processes running, FMSCore process does not run [URL] found this in the knowledge base but step3 "Run this program As Administrator" checkbox is greyed out so I cannot do anything. I have stopped and restarted service so many time, rebooted server at least twice. Even the video that's supposed to play when you click the start screen is not playing.
Set the Flash Media Server services to Run as AdministratorComplete the following steps for each of the following files located in the Flash Media Server root installation folder (C:/Program Files/Adobe/Flash Media Server, by default):

I've been trying to set up an instance of Flash Media Interactive Server on Amazon Web Services for an AVChat (avchat.net). once installed what I'm trying to do is to add a folder for AVChat into /opt/macromedia/fms/applications/ ([URL]). I am assuming that once I do have this instance running, I can move/modify files on the server instance.
I am running Flash Media Streaming Server 3.5.1 r516 on a CentOS system. I also have WHM/cPanel installed on this system. My scenario is this. We have a large number of MP4 media files that are currently located in a web root directory created by cPanel: /home/mediafa/public_html/fullservices. These all work without a problem when doing progressive downloads. However, we also want to make them streamable with FMS as well. From the documentation, I should be able to create an entry in the /<fms install dir>/applications/vod/Application.xml file to look up files in that folder.
Here is my VirtualDirectory block:

However, when I try to connect to a file that is in that directory, I get a 404 error in the access.00.log file. I've tried to change the owner/group on the fullservices folder as well as the owner/group of the target file to the fms user/group, but I still cannot connect to it. The connection address is rtmp://<ipAddress>/vod/mp4:1005-03m_256k.mp4.
I have a website setup in IIS 7.5 with a virtual directory pointing to a local folder outside of the www root of my website e.g:
the website is c:website
the virtual directory is in c:images
I use flowplayer to play my movies, when I put the movie path in my website root directory structure, say c:websitemoviesa.flv it works fine in the player, but if I put them inside the virtual directory and point the player to play it from there using a relative URL, it doesn't work
I suspect that this has to do with either permissions or flash configurations to allow it to access directories outside of the scope of the website, but I have no idea where to edit such settings

But the problem is, that i specified the web root to the C:inetpubwwwroot directory (there php is running). On the server i want it on another directory.(Now i have the main Flex Page in the directory für the webserver, and the php files are in the wwwroot directory).

I'm working on a school assignment in which I have to make a basic CRUD (create, read, update and delete) content management application using the Zend AMF framework in FLEX.Basically I create a mock database and have flex print the data from the database into a data-grid. I need to also have an add form, edit+update feature and delete feature. As of now I have FLEX printing all the database info into my data-grid and my add form works as well as my delete button. My problem is I cannot get the update function/query to work. You know:

What happens is I have it programmed so that when you click on any row in the data-grid, the information is printed back into the add form. Here you can change the values and hit the 'update button' (not the add button) to run the update query on the php file.So my mxml looks something like this:

So basically I can send the ID over to the PHP but not other values along with it, in this case the date time and name. How can I send over these edited values so the update function actually updates them?I'm assuming my update function is wrong in either the mxml or the php or both.

As far as I know I essentially need a way to authenticate my Flex application against my Zend Amf endpoint. After AMF consumer authentication, I have some of the security mechanisms I mentioned above to protect certain pieces of data (like User authentication). I can not embed some sort of authentication mechanism into my Flex swf because the swf is vulnerable to decompilation (the swf can not be trusted). While sensitive data is protected via User authentication the unprotected data is hardly public but as far as I can tell is totally open for public consumption.
i have a question about Zend Framework and mainly the model part. I know there is no abstract model class and understand why. I've got a simple app that is currently getting information form a database and just displaying the content into a datagrid.
Instead of having this information displayed in a datagrid, I'd like to display it in a couple of labels (first name, last name, phone, etc.), but I'm not really sure how to.

I am having difficulty in getting the session values when I use the Flash uploader (Uploadify) with CodeIgniter. I have stored some values in session, for example userID. Now I need to get the userID in the backend script, but the problem is that the flash creates a new session instead of using existing session.
I have found some kind of (probably incomplete) solution here, which suggests to create MY_Session and add some code in it. Can someone please have take a quick look at the link and tell me how can I use this solution? For example how and where should i load MY_Session.php file and how can i get the existing session data?
In flex (flash builder 4) I have a Date() property that I am passing to Zend AMF (php) and I want to store that (as well as other data) in mongoDB. Mongodb is complaining about the date because it comes across as a Zend_Date object, which appears to be an object containing several properties and Mongodb is saying that it can not accept blank properties. So, I take that to mean it needs to be converted to something else before I can store it? If so, how do I do that?
At the moment I have taken the approach of converting the Zend_Date object in to a date string to store it (in php):

That works fine, and I have a string in mongodb of that date. Now, when I load the date from MongoDB, I need to convert it back to a Zend_Date so it properly converts back in to a Date() object in flex (I have to check that it's not blank or it throws errors in php):

When I have a class linked to a MovieClip in my library and that class takes an argument in its constructor method. That class will compile properly ONLY when it's located in my top-level directory (same dir as the .fla and Document.as files). If I move that class to a deeper directory, say com.place, and update the package statement and symbol link appropriately, the compiler will generate error "1136: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected 0."Create flash project and put a rectangle on the stage. Covert it to symbol and assign it to class TestPanel - or whatever you choose. Also configure the fla so that is uses a Document (Main) class.Create Main.as and TestPanel.as in the same folder. In the Main class, instantiate a instance of TestPanel and add it to the stage. Now considering XML as transport, for every item, it transmits meta data twice for example.. instead of transferring int value as <Customer CustomerID=23/> it transmits <Customer><CustomerID>23</CustomerID></Customer> .. now here is where bandwidth conservation becomes an issue.
FLEX Can not read GZip and DEFLATE compressed HTTP Response ( So cant use any of them )I heard of some WSCompression but it requires WSE 3.0 now I am skeptical to introduce too many dependency in my hosting environment which requires too much management and overheads. Is WSE 3.0 only dll library which requires no installation on production server? Does it require rewriting all WebService attribute? Or is it simple one time configuration and more or less, anyone knows does it work with Flex ? Flex dynamically generates web services, and we use lot of its auto generated code, now if we want to support compression then do we need to rewrite lot of code?
Simplest solution I can think of is, reduce unnecessary XML tags and reduce them down to attributes to save bandwidth. Is there an easy way to achieve it, our classes has more then 50-70 properties, I understand it will be nightmare to add attributes to each property but we dont know how to do it in case of SOAP.

What would be the best way to secure .net web services used by a flex application (both desktop and browser) that requires login? I thought about requesting the user and password in every method of the web service, and having them stored as variables in the flex app, but I don't feel like this is the most elegant way.
