Flex :: Actionscript :: Create A Class To Handle Events
Apr 7, 2010
in Adobe tutorials, they suggest to create a class to handle the events (see below the copy/pasted code, and link to page).I was wondering if I have to handle all events with the function handleAllEvents, using if statements to check if the target is the one I want, and the event is the one I want.i.e. if (event.type=="click") && (event.currentTarget == "myId")Should I have a list of ifs (for each target and each event type ?)[code]
I'm developing an AIR application with Flash Builder 4 Beta 2 (nightly SDK) an am not using a framework like mate. I have a couple of views and components in my application. An outline might look like this:
In ACE Flex 3 , there is a topic "Handle Framework Events". Any document which lists all the 'required' framework events for ACE test? So I could know what are "framework" events and will focus on them.
I want to handle the mouseevents for all the sprites on the stage including the one those are hidden behind (or overlapped or occluded) and the main condition is that I want to handle the occluded sprite (that hidden behind other sprite). example, say I have sprite1 and sprite2 on stage and I want to start drag whenever i click on the sprite and stop drag after another click.
This can be done easily, but the problem and my main requirement is that if I drag the sprite1 and drop it exactly on top of the sprite2 then sprite2 will be hidden behind the sprite1 I wont be able to drag the sprite2 without moving the sprite1 first. if you have played zynga's empires and allais game on facebook, it is handled seperatly, it is how it works in that game, the mouse event is triggered on the sprite behind the overlapping sprite, if you have two sprites overlapping one sprite than the mouse event is triggered on the sprite which is last and not the one in front irrespective of whether there is only one sprite overlapping or two or three and this happens to irregular shaped sprites (not just rectangles)
I'm not sure if it's possible, but can you override a variable of a parent class like you can override a function? I'm trying to create my own event class that can handle the target property. I have a custom imageLoader class, but when it dispatches it's loading complete event:
ActionScript Code: dispatch(new Event("load_complete")); and a listener picks it up, e.target = null where I would like e.target to equal the imageLoader instance that has finished loading.
Does anyone have an answer or a better way to accomplish what I am aiming for?
Imagine you have a MC used as a container for several other MC's used as buttons. Now, should I use the class of the container to listen for and to dispatch events. OrShould I create a seperate class for each MC inside of the container to listen for and to dispatch events.
In summary: One class for all, or several smaller classes dedicated to their respective MC.How far should one go with abstraction?.
I'm trying to recreate a UI for an application that my company makes in order to create an in-depth training companion to the application. One of the features is a weird tree view that works quite different from any tree view component I've ever seen, so I decided to create my own version of it as the Flash AS2 Tree Component doesn't have the functionality, and I haven't found any Tree Component for sale or download that works like that either. At first glance it seems like a standard Tree, except that it behaves differently if you click on the icon for each node than if you click on the label.
Some labels are links, some nodes can have 2 different labels, each with their own link, and most nodes have a second label underneath the label next to the icon (these don't have events assigned to them; they're just a quick way to view information). So anyway, I set up an XML file with all the information that I need (the easy part), but populating the whole thing, making sure each subnode can properly exist within each parentnode while allowing me to open and close them has been a real challenge.
Basically, I decided to use a whole bunch of loops to go through the nodes in the XML, but my lack of experience in using them is kicking my rear end. Basically, I need some code that can evaluate all the nodes in the XML and sort them within the proper hierarchies and then create all the clips in the stage to add the mouse events for opening, closing, and handling the links (which do not direct to the same event as when the icon next to that link is clicked).
I am able to get the result, but not able to dispatch the event from the custom actionScript class. I googled and got the riposte that you need to add it to display list.
I have a main application Planner.mxml. This view has a couple of custom components, one of which is LoginView.mxml. In LoginView.mxml I do the following:
protected function btnLoginClick(event:MouseEvent):void { try {
[code]....
As you can see, when the user is successfully logged in, I want to dispatch a custom event; if not, I show an alert box. However, this event doesn't dispatch (or at least, I don't know how to listen for it).
I would like to listen for it in my main application where I can then change my viewstate to the logged-in state. However, the event never seems to get there. I listen for it by having loggedIn="loggedInHandler(event)" on my loginComponent.
I'm trying to detect when pop ups are visible (including tool tips if possible). The reason is that I need to hide or freeze (capture a snapshot) the Stage* components (StageWebView, StageVideo, StageText etc) when pop ups appear.
I want each item in a list to change to a totally unique view file. Instead of 10 items in a list all going to 1 new view but with different info being generated I want 10 different view, 1 per item in the list. I can't find any examples of how to do this and I have been tryingo to make it for for a while. This is for a mobile app.
I have an <mx:Application> which contains a <mx:Module>. This module has several child modules. It also has some an instance of a class I have created. I am trying to have a method of this class dispatch an event that can be "heard" by the module and handled. This isn't happening. To be more clear, I am using 'dispatchEvent' to from inside a class method. There is an instance of this class in: mx.core.Application.myapplication.mymodule.myclassIt is the 'myclass.somefunction' that dispatches the event. I have a listener registered in 'mymodule'. Nothing happens when the function/method runs, however.
When I upload a file using a Flex application, what is the difference between complete and uploadcompletedata events? In which cases one of them will be dispatched and the other one won't?
I'm new to Flash AS3. I started making a game and I am a bit confused. Let's assume that I want to create a game that has multiple levels/modes, how can I do this in an object orientated way?
When i create games in other languages e.g. XNA C#, i create a separate class then create an object of that class within the main class and run the game based on a simple statement.
I know global variables are supposed to be bad but is it possible to create global classes? I am creating an application and I want to have one class that handles sound. From any class I would like to be able to say soundhandler.playSound(); without having to pass references all over the place. It should just know it is there.
I'm creating a scrollbar gallery from a tutorial on this site. Though I've completed the tutorial, and customised the gallery to my own needs, however I'm trying to make a very small change to it - and no matter what I do, keep running into problems. I'm trying to replace the rectangular handle with my own customised handle - a (20 x 20) 'circular' png image that I've imported into Flash, made a graphic and stored in the library (though I understand it can be imported using actionscript, like the other images in the gallery).
I have a main class which listens for an event dispatched from another class say class A. Also there are other classes say class B, class C etc. There is a controller class.Classes B, C dispatches events that gets listened by the controller and works well. But the events dispatched by the Class A doesn't get listened by the main class. What might be the problem. Detailed Explanation of the problem. There is a main mxml file.
Class files are in: ProcessInput.as DBController.as ShortMemDB.as ....etc
The main mxml file gets the input from a textArea. Sends the input to the capturedInput (input:String) function using set method which is in the ProcessInput Class. Now I need to dispatch events NORMAL, COMMAND depending on the input obtained after the processing, where I'm having problems. The reason is that if the event NORMAL is dispatched a particular function inside the DBController is to be called. If COMMAND event is dispatched then I need to call another function. This idea doesn't work since the events doesn't get listened. But the events dispatched by the CSDB class when listened by the DBController works well.
I've been playing around with custom classes. My objective was to create a custom class (Testing) that would create a box when an instance of the class is created. I've tried three different approaches, however only (3) seems to be showing up. I'm just curious why (1) or (2) doesn't work?
Also is there a better approach than (3)? Since at the moment it's been created on _root. I hope the box can only be accessible through the instance. Since I'd like to incorporate the whole idea of public, private, encapsulation, etc.
I have swf with multiple scenes.Controls in each scenes are different. How can I manipulate these controls in different scenes in a single document class for this swf?
I think this is a pretty simply problem but I do not seem to be able to pull it off. Basically I have a parent class A, and a child class B.Class A instantiates class B with addChild. There is a shared object which is being updated from a java server (red5) that has an event listener attached to it in class A.I have a function in class A which will pass certain, specific updates from this shared object to class B.The problem occurs is that when class B is instantiated, the event listener from class A doesn't work anymore. I have not removed the event listener from A.?
When I try to do this in an AS CDATA block, it tells me I can't have a class declared within a class (the MX:Application itself). Makes sense. But where and how do I do it?
I'm trying to build a Flex AIR app using Flex Builder 3, which I'm just getting started with. In Flash CS4, there's a text field in the authoring environment where you can specify a class that will become the "base" class - your class inherits from Sprite and then "becomes" the Stage at runtime. Is there a a way to do the same thing with Flex/AIR? Failing that, how to create and use an external class?
[Code]....
But that gives the error "A file found in a source-path must have an externally visible definition. If a definition in the file is meant to be externally visible, please put the definition in a package". I can't win! When I put my class in a package, it says I can't do that because it would be nested. When I don't, it says it needs to be in a package so it can be seen.
i have a sequence of buttons and each button has its own icon. I was wondering if I have to create a Spark skin file for each button in order to assign its icon.
