Flex :: Handle Both CLICK And MouseDown Events In Flex?

Apr 18, 2011

I have a scenario where I am listening to both CLICK and MouseDown events for an object.

On MouseDown I do a startDrag(). And on Click, I perform something else.

But the problem is that, MouseDown event fires first and it initiates a drag. The click event does not fire.

Actionscript 3 :: Flex HTMLLoader Component Not Raising MouseDown Events For All Mouse Clicks

Jun 16, 2010

I have built a Air 2/Flex 4 kiosk application with Flash Builder 4. Currently I am implementing a touch screen browser to enable users to navigate company training videos. In an attempt to improve the usability of the website on the touchscreen I have placed the HTML component in an adaption of Doug McCune's DragScrollingCanvas (updated to use the flex 4 'Scroller' component) to allow users to scroll the webpage by dragging their finger across the screen. The mouseDown event is used to start scrolling the viewport.
In addition the webpage was modified to disable text selection with the following css:
...

As an alternative I also tried adding a group container with the same dimensions as the HTMLLoader to detect the mouseDown events (so that the group container and HTMLLoader have the same Dragable parent container) and was able to capture mouseDown events and scroll the viewport as expected. However as the mouse event is handled by the group container, I am now unable to navigate the webpage.

Flex :: MouseDown / MouseMove / Click With Drag And Drop

Sep 15, 2009

In Flex 3, I have an ItemRenderer that has a button in it. I want users to be able to click and drag this Renderer, but also just click the button. Right now it's working with the Renderer listening on "MouseMove" to initiate drag and drop, and the button listening on "click". However this is very screwy. If somebody is dragging a scroll bar and comes anywhere near that renderer, MouseMove gets fired on the renderer and initiates dragging.

(or if somebody is resizing a HDividedBox, basically if someone initiated a click anywhere in the app and rolls over this renderer, we get unwanted dragging. The alternative is listening on MouseDown instead of MouseMove, which fixes the previous issue, however the nested button loses it's click. I can click on the button, but the renderer just thinks it's time to Drag.

Actionscript 3 :: Handle Mouse Events On Occluded (overlapped) Display Objects In Flash/flex?

Sep 3, 2011

I want to handle the mouseevents for all the sprites on the stage including the one those are hidden behind (or overlapped or occluded) and the main condition is that I want to handle the occluded sprite (that hidden behind other sprite). example, say I have sprite1 and sprite2 on stage and I want to start drag whenever i click on the sprite and stop drag after another click.

This can be done easily, but the problem and my main requirement is that if I drag the sprite1 and drop it exactly on top of the sprite2 then sprite2 will be hidden behind the sprite1 I wont be able to drag the sprite2 without moving the sprite1 first. if you have played zynga's empires and allais game on facebook, it is handled seperatly, it is how it works in that game, the mouse event is triggered on the sprite behind the overlapping sprite, if you have two sprites overlapping one sprite than the mouse event is triggered on the sprite which is last and not the one in front irrespective of whether there is only one sprite overlapping or two or three and this happens to irregular shaped sprites (not just rectangles)

Flex :: Catch Keyboard Events Without Forcing Users To Click On The Stage?

Nov 8, 2010

handling global keyboard events in Flex, is to attach a listener in the application complete event of a Flex application. However, no matter what I try, I have not been able to catch events without clicking on a point on the page, which is hosting my Flex application.
Moreoever, if I use a Flex component in a web application, where there is also html and Javascript, I'd still like to be able to grap global keyboard events, even if the embedded flex component (in flash player) does not have focus. So is there a reliable method for connecting flex applications and components (when they're embedded in a web page) to keyboard events?

Flex :: Activate An Application So The User Doesn't Have To Click Inside It To Start Getting Keyboard Events

Nov 26, 2010

My Flex application is heavily keyboard-oriented. It uses 100% of the browser window and I'd like the user to be able to start using it immediately - as soon as it loads. However, it seems that the application is only first "activated" (i.e. the activate event fires) when the mouse clicks somewhere inside it, which is very inconvenient for my keyboard-heavy app.

Can I force an activation of my app at some point during/after it loads? I hope I don't have to display some silly "click inside to activate" overlay every time the page loads..

In certain browsers ([cough] Chrome [/cough]) the focus is lost whenever the user switches away from the browser (or even touches the address bar) and is not regained when switching back. So the solution has to take in consideration not just the first focus when the page loads but also "re-focusing".

ActionScript 3.0 :: MouseDown Versus MouseClick - Separating Two Events

Feb 16, 2009

I have a series of buttons on a page that I want the user to be able to re-arrange. To do this, I have a MOUSE_DOWN event listener that triggers a startDrag. However, these buttons are also essentially menu items so when user clicks on them, they should load the appropriate URL. I don't want them to act as menu buttons when a user is trying to move them about. I have three event listeners on each button, one for the MOUSE_DOWN and one for the CLICK event and one for MOUSE_UP but the function associated to the CLICK event also fires on the MOUSE_UP.

Flex :: Select & Deselect Same Item In <s:List> With A Mousedown?

Dec 14, 2010

In Flex 4, I have a Spark List component with item renderers. I would like to select an item in the List by clicking on it, and deselect it also, by clicking on the same selected item. Like an on/off switch.

My item renderer has the following states:

<s:states>
<s:State name="normal"/>
<s:State name="hovered"/>
<s:State name="selected"/>
</s:states>

so I tried to add a click event listener to the item renderer with:

private function selectUnSelect():void {
if (currentState == 'selected') currentState = 'normal';
else currentState = 'selected';
}

with an awkward behaviour... where the item stay selected even after clicking it again in the selected state.

Think of using the List component without the Command (on mac) or the Control button on windows.

Actionscript 3 :: Adobe Flex - MouseDown Event On Label Values?

Aug 6, 2010

I just would like to know how can I dynamically change a label's values while on mousedown.I basically have a mousedown event and I also have two labels in my application. What I would like to happen is to get the current x and y position of my mouse pointer as I move my mouse through the screen and changing the values of the labels into the values of the current x and y coordinates of the mouse pointer.

protected function object_mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
{
curX = this.mouseX;
........

However, what this code does is that it records the coordinates of my mouse as it moves across the screen. What i want now to do is just to get the coordinates of the mouse while event is on mouseDown. What i'm thinking is to call the mouseDown event and ask it if the mouse is currently down, if it returns true, then i'll start recording.

PHP :: Adobe Flex - How To Handle Sessions

Nov 17, 2011

I am thinking about porting my social netowrking site code to Adobe Flex / PHP and was wondering how does one go about handling sessions in this case. I would imagine Adobe Flex doesn't really know if a PHP session has been started or not therefore, I would have to research how to accomplish this. One idea I had was to created a session token string after a successful login and pass this token to each http request the user makes for data. E.g. . Each time a request is made to this page, a MySQL query is run to check if the token I passed in the url matches against the token created for that user during login. If this is true, then data is returned.

C# :: Handle Http Fired By Flex In Server?

TcpListener listener = new TcpListener(IPAddress.Any, 9400);
listener.Start();
Console.WriteLine("Server started");

I been trying to send a true HTTP response a notice another thing, the second call is coming without waiting for the first call, if I am putting the response thread to short sleep(100 milliseconds in my test) then I am getting the second call before I been able to response for the first one.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Tree View - Adding Mouse Events To Handle Links

Mar 4, 2010

I'm trying to recreate a UI for an application that my company makes in order to create an in-depth training companion to the application. One of the features is a weird tree view that works quite different from any tree view component I've ever seen, so I decided to create my own version of it as the Flash AS2 Tree Component doesn't have the functionality, and I haven't found any Tree Component for sale or download that works like that either. At first glance it seems like a standard Tree, except that it behaves differently if you click on the icon for each node than if you click on the label.

Some labels are links, some nodes can have 2 different labels, each with their own link, and most nodes have a second label underneath the label next to the icon (these don't have events assigned to them; they're just a quick way to view information). So anyway, I set up an XML file with all the information that I need (the easy part), but populating the whole thing, making sure each subnode can properly exist within each parentnode while allowing me to open and close them has been a real challenge.

Basically, I decided to use a whole bunch of loops to go through the nodes in the XML, but my lack of experience in using them is kicking my rear end. Basically, I need some code that can evaluate all the nodes in the XML and sort them within the proper hierarchies and then create all the clips in the stage to add the mouse events for opening, closing, and handling the links (which do not direct to the same event as when the icon next to that link is clicked).

Handle M:M Entity Relationships In Flex / Java Web Application?

Dec 21, 2010

I am struggling to come up with a way to efficiently manage Flex entities that have a many-to-many relationships between their JPA/Java counter parts.
Both of these entities can exist independently of each other and both have a 1:M relationship with the other. The relationship is not really owned by one side or the other.Within the application there are Flex UI's that sometimes want to see viewers based on movies and other UI's that want to see movies based on viewers.Currently both the Movies.Viewers and Viewers.Movies collections are lazy loaded by JPA which works fine. The problem is that every time I ask a viewer for it's list of movies, then they all get sent over the wire and then within Flex I end up with a bunch of Movie objects that (often, not always) duplicate the ones I already have there.

It seems inefficient at best and could likely cause errors if the duplicate objects are not dealt with.In my real application I have tons of these types of relationships all over some very large object graphs.It almost seems to me that the lazy loaded object collections need to be turned into eagerly loaded collections of foreign keys which are used to explicitly load objects on the Flex side of things. But this seems like I am writing a JPA provider in Flex! Is the correct answer to never store state in a Flex application? (Yikes)I should add that all my value objects have a UID that is created on the server side, so I could somehow use that to find/remove duplicates on the Flex side. But how?
