I have an J2EE Enterprise Application Project in which I would like to add a few Flex screens. How do I go about adding Flex capabilities.
I have build Flex/J2EE applications from scratch but can't think of the best way to do this.
I am currently using Flex Builder Plugin for IBM Rational Application Developer 7.5.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried to use Flex to power the front end of an enterprise level application at all, and if so, what advantages/disadvantages did you find when doing so. I'm currently looking into a possible project that would have global users requiring enterprise level access and performance, and wondering if it would be prudent to call upon some of my contractors flex experience with this project.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to compile an existing Flex3 project with the Flex4 SDK. I'm getting this error:
Warning: This compilation unit did not have a factoryClass specified in Frame metadata to load the configured runtime shared libraries. To compile without runtime shared libraries either set the -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries option to true or remove the -runtime-shared-libraries option.The resulting file is roughly the same as my old Flex3 compiled .swf file. Playing the resulting .swf file in the Flash Player also gives the following errors:
An Actionscript error ocurred: VerifyError: Error #1014: Class spark.core::SpriteVisualElement could not be found If I set the compiler attribute static-link-runtime-shared-libraries to true, then the error disappears and all is well. However, the size of the resulting .SWF is a couple of 100K's bigger. And that's not what I want.
I don't fully understand the concept of runtime shared libraries, but it seems that with the option to statically link them set to true, the libraries are included in the .swf. However, I like to exclude them from the .swf and only load the needed library at runtime, as my project seemed to do with Flex3 (I didn't know that by the way).
If I understand correctly, playerglobal.swc should hold all the necessary code for the external libraries that my .swf has to load. Do Flex4 compiled files need more libraries? Should I do something with the factoryClass in the Frame metadata tag?
I think my question boils down to this: How do I compile a Flex4 .swf that is the same size as my previous Flex3 compiled .swf?
I'm not a flash developer.We paid a developer to build us an app. It is nearly perfect, but a few things in the actionscript need tweaking (purely the values of some URL's for action when buttons are clicked.)I believe I need to rebuild the project to pull this information through.I believe he has sent me the full source. For example, in some random class there is a function defined like this :

View 2 RepliesI have been programming using flex 4 on adobe flesh builder 4 in order to create a website. The site require a connection to java and hence I decided on using blazeDS, in order to do so I updated the flex project's properties and set the flex server from "noneother" to "j2ee" as is required for the use of blazeDs. Ever since this change the site no longer runs as it should, as all the images are not being displayed and all action listeners are no longer working.(The problem is due to the flex server as when I changed it back to none the site worked fine)I need the j2ee server, and cant go by without it.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to make my flex app work on Android, and that involves making an AIR app to run on Android. Seeing as the flex app needs the mic, an AIR app is required. I am using flash builder 4.5 on win7 with air 2.6. The trouble seems to be that most of it is now not available. For example mx.containers is there, but not mx.containers.viewStack. I notice that there are obvious equivalents in spark for some components but not others. VBox, HBox, Canvas VDividedBox, AdvancedDataGrid and associated custom renderers are the components my application uses the most. What is the fastest way to make this work on Android, I am under time pressure. Is there a site somewhere that recommends the best way to do this, and what components can be replaced with which?

This maybe a bit of a 'wide' question, but am putting together a brief overview of a new system I'm proposing at work. It will be a POS style system, that does quotes and invoices + crm for our work enviroment across 100 + locations.
It will communicate with server via the Internet. Flex / Air feature set (offline SQL is Internet goes down, Rich communications, rich client environment etc), the fact that we run Macs + PC makes it looks like a great choice. I know HTML 5 has offline SQL and stuff, but flex feature set is way more comprehensive / usable etc..Is anyone doing any big corporate Flex / Air projects that need to last a long time? Or are you pushing HTML and its new technologies to provide a more safe investment.
Anyone successfully added an icon to their tabs in <s:TabbedMobileApplication> ? I've tried just using something like:

Neither of these methods worked, and to be safe i used the same code to embed an image on the screen and it works!. I just can't seem to get the icons to appear in the tabs also note - I was doing all of this in my main mxml file, just incase you're familiar with the Flex Burrito "Mobile application" file structure. And another thing is that I don't get any errors when trying these methods. It lets me compile and test it.
I need to set the size of SWF up to 800x600. But i don't know where can i change this property. There was an idea to change stage width and heigth, but nothing happened=(
View 1 RepliesI'm getting an unusual behavior that I can't seem to get to the bottom of. When I run this, if I move in the swf area it traces normally on mouse move. To be expected.But it's tracing for the move event when I click anywhere on screen. If I click and drag, it traces as if I were moving in the swf area of the browser.Here's the code. I've simplified to it's barebones. Just put this in in an empty AS3 project in Flex called "Engine" - sans quotes obviously.

I have a flex app with lots of custom components, like custom buttons, comboBoxes etc. I am trying to add keyBoard shortcuts to the flex app. In doing so, I added a key-down listener to the app to listen for ctrl+shift key combination like this:

Then I dispatch a custom event that all of my custom components are listening for:

In my custom button component I have:

So, if I go ctrl+shift+W then I want one instance of the custom button to get clicked. For some reason, the event never gets triggered and never gets to the ShortCutKeysHandler function.
I'm trying to make a quiz in flex and am loading data from an xml file. For each question I want to create a radiobuttongroup so I can associate radio buttons to it. How can I accomplish that with actionscript? I can see that addChild method works for DisplayObjects and I presume that radiobuttongroup is not one because I'm receiving errors. How can I dynamically add radiobuttongroup with actionscript in flex application?

I'm just trying to understand how once HTML5 enters the picture, the current concerns about browser incompatibility and other issues go away? Wouldn't HTML5 simply add another set of browsers to the large list of current browsers that the application must target?
That is, assuming the enterprise web app requires one of these new HTML5 features (e.g. playing audio and/or video, integrating SVG or vector graphics, etc.). If such a feature isn't critical then graceful degradation may be acceptable and then my question is moot.
But for those apps that require one of these new HTML5 features, are you planning to support older browsers, or expecting it's acceptable to restrict to HTML5 browsers because the enterprise in question has made one of them their new corporate standard (or other scenario, etc.)?

Parent pom has swc, swf, war as modules.
Dependency is war->swf->swc.
With parent artifactId of swf, swc, war set to swf, swc, test respectively.On executing mvn on test folder(for that matter clean or anything) I get this following error.

Looks like its trying to download the project from maven's central repository instead of building it.

I'm looking at a tutorial to display placemarks using a KML file on a flex application. I'm using IGN API (openscales) in flex project. The example works perfectly (http:/[url].......

Placemarks don't show up on the map. I tried to host the kml file on different hosts but that doesn't change.
I've recently started making a game in FlexBuilder. The game is currently a Flex project. Is there any downside to using Flex as opposed to just Actionscript? A friend of a friend told me that Flex is slower than an Actionscript project. I've been unable to validate this on the internet; is there any truth to that claim?
