View 2 RepliesAt the moment I'm using Selenium-Flex to write functional tests for a video playback app.At the moment, I need to test that the app behaves appropriately when switched to fullscreen mode - make sure that the control bar is in a reasonable spot, the video resizes appropriately, etc., and of course to do that I need an automated way to make Flash Player go fullscreen.
For good reason, Flash's security features prevent being able to fullscreen except in response to user input. Actual user input, a javascript callback being called does not count.Is there any way to disable this security feature on my test rig, so I can actually run my automated tests on fullscreen mode? Barring that, is there any way to put Flash into fullscreen mode externally, so I can hack it up to work that way?
Is there any open source automated tools available for testing the Flash??

Is it better for me to keep my MXML and AS in separate files so I can more easily integrate with any frameworks....or does it even matter?
View 2 RepliesWe're currently developing a flex web app and our build situation is far from ideal. At present we're (as in individual developers) just building using FlashBuilder and deploying manually. The programmers are currently screaming bloody murder for two reasons, though:The lack of CI is like going back to the stone ageWe don't much care for FlashBuilder(Note: We're only using FlashBuilder because it was the easiest way to set up a flex project in conjunction with Away3d and get it building / rendering correctly -- it's a stopgap solution).As a predominately .NET development shop, we're used to doing continuous integration as well as continuous deployment. Ideally, we'd like to get something comparable to this for our flash projects without tying ourselves to a particular IDE.
Requirements:
The build process must be:
.. runnable via the commandline
.. runnable on both developer and CI build machines (and certainly not requiring an IDE!)
.. preferably as IDE-independent as possible (pragmatism will kick in though; if this causes a lot of friction we'll just pick one).
.. able to run on Windows (we develop using Windows)
We don't mind a touch of duplication or a few manual steps (e.g. tarting up the build scripts if we add a new project via an IDE, or generating one configuration from another if tools exist), but the less duplication / maintenance required the better.
We are currently thinking on getting our apps automaticaly built and tested through a CI server.My major concern is regarding UI tests.. I've been playing with FlexMonkium/Selenium IDE in Firefox but it doesn't really play nice with my app. I'm also testing RIATest 3 but I would have liked the Firefox approach better because it's easy to use for non technical users..A bigger concern is that my app is really complex, using custom events, custom components, ExternalInterface calls.. in order to make it all work smoothly, should I give an automationName to every single component ? How can I handle custom events ? RPC responses time
View 1 RepliesI have a professional license of Flex 3.3. This allows me to create applications using the data visualization components (charts) without watermarks. However, all of release builds (test, production, etc) occur on our build server.
The build server only has the Flex SDK installed (not full Flex Builder). As a result the SWFs compiled with this SDK contain watermarks on all the charts. How can I apply a Flex Builder Professional license to the build server to remove the watermakrs w/o installing Flex Builder?My build environment is Flex SDK 3.3 + CruiseControl.NET + NAnt.
I basically need to scale an object up when the user rollsover the button which I have created dynamically already and I need to make sure the object is fully scaled up before I can allow the user to scale it back down again.Ive tried putting 2 tweens (x and yscale) into a function but not sure how to check if the tweens have finished. Im assuming if I check the function is complete it wont take into consideration the tweens may still be running.

On it I have a player that play avi files and some buttons and tabs along side.The application also have recording button that records that direct stream from an IP cam and store that stream on the media (USB). How can I automate function testing of such application. Like I have confusion that when I press the recording button but can I be sure that recording starts? I have tried RIATest and flexUnit 4.

Manual testing takes a lot of time and hence we want to automate it EDIT: We dont have the source code of this app uder test so cannot use something like FlexUnit. I am developing a "dumb" front-end, it's an AIR application that interacts with a "smart" LiveCycle server. There are currently about 20 request & response pairs for the application. For many reasons (testing, developing outside the corporate network, etc), we have several XML files of fake data, and if a certain configuration flag is set, the files are loaded, a specific file is parsed and used to create a mock response. Each XML file is a set of responses for different situation, all internally consistent. We currently have about 10 XML files, each corresponding to different situation we can run into.
This is probably going to grow to 30-50 XML files. The current system was developed by me during one of those 90-hour-week release cycles, when we were under duress because LiveCycle was down again and we had a deadline to meet. Most of the minor crap has been cleaned up. The fake data is in an object called FakeData, with properties like customerType1:XML, customerType2:XML, overdueCustomer1:XML, etc. Then in the FakeData constructor, all of the properties are set like this:
customerType1:XML = FileUtil.loadXML(File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath("fakeData/customerType1.xml");
And whenever you need some fake data (this happens in special FakeDelegates that extend the real LiveCycle Delegates), you get it from an instance of FakeData. This is awful, for many reasons, but it works. One embarrassing part is that every time you create an instance of FakeData, it reloads all the XML files. If there's a design pattern that is not Singleton that can handle this more elegantly. The constraints are:
No global instances can be required (currently, all the code dealing with the fake data, including the fake delegates, is pulled out of production builds without any side-effects, and it needs to stay that way). This puts the Factory pattern out of the running. It can handle multiple objects using the XML data without performance issues. The XML files are read centrally so that the other code doesn't have to know where the XML files are, and so some preprocessing can be done (like creating a map of certain tag values and the associated XML file).

Is the most common practice to just refactor the behavior into a method that does the lifting while the handler just extracts information from the event, or are there effective ways to simulate event dispatch in FlexUnit or Fluint?

This appears to be a normal behaviour, so I would like to remove my resize gripper when the window is maximised.At the moment I can't find a property to detect if a window is maximized, and although I could add a boolean in my controller, it wouldn't necessarily catch requests to maximize from the OS.So if you know of a reliable way to test if a window is maximized please let me know.On a related note, I am using custom chrome, and when I maximize a window it overlaps the windows task bar. I can think of hacks to detect available screen size (using a transparent system chrome window), but it would be good to know of a better method.
View 7 RepliesI'm trying to test clipping on two canvases. Both canvases are 100px wide. They're 20px apart. I've placed a label inside one and made it 200px wide. Scroll bars will show up on the canvas. When I don't have the label inside and use hitTestObject it returns false. When I place the label inside it returns true. Is there any way to alter the canvas with the label inside so that it doesn't expand to the width of the label?

I am looking for recommendations for tools for automated testing of a web application with some flex components.To provide some background we have a web application that was entirely developed in AJAX+HTML and we were somewhat successful in using Selenium for testing that application end to end. We recently added some flex components into the mix and it got complicated. We tried using Selenium Flex but we are disappointed with what it can do. So now we are looking for some alternatives. Ideally the tool would be able to drive both the web and the flex parts simultaneously, but we can also settle for just testing the flex components on their own. We prefer open source but good commercial tool is also an option.

Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't, leaving me, after a while, having 10 or more flashplayer tabs on windows still open. I try to close them using the task manager with no luck.

View 6 RepliesI've been trying to setup a working method for unit testing flex libraries using Flex Builder. i have tried setting up a standard flex lib project and using Ant to compile and run the units tests. But this means that when something does go wrong and I want to use the flex builder debugger I cannot do so.
So my next plan is to setup the library as a normal as3/flax/air app as I can use the concept of a main class to run the unit tests. I can then compile the actual library code using Ant.
I could also setup a separate companion project who's sole task is to run units tests on the lib. But this is a little awkward as each library now requires two projects to manage. How do other people develop flex libraries and use unit tests to test/develop/debug the code?
