Flex :: Keep Layout Purely In MXML And Style Purely In Skin In It?
Nov 14, 2011
I am trying to implement some MVC-style UI components in Flex 4. I want to further separate the visual setup (and later runtime modification) of each element. Primarily, I want to keep the overall layout of the data like such in the MXML file that will USE the skin[code]...
I've been having trouble creating a mechanism to allow the user to select a span of time from a timeline. Basically i want them to be able to click and drag horizontally, and retrieve the start and end positions of that event.
I especially need to include the case where the event goes off the edge of the screen (even if the end position is snapped to the edge of the screen that's fine).
While doing all of this, I want to be able to draw a box that goes from the start of the event to the current position of the mouse, so that it's obvious which area if being selected.
just like a title. I discovered that "buttonmode = true" is not enough to make a button that would act the same as "button symbol" in timeline, what properties should I set furthermore?
Background: I made my own scroll bar in AS3. That scroll bar uses a knob, that is a movie clip, I found that if I will enter inside that mc and make another symbol - "button" inside (from the same graphic) it will act very nice, BUT if I set that mc to "buttonmode" in AS, it works different. Yeah it has hand, but when I'm dragging it too fast, I'm often "losing" it. It looks like the graphic is not keeping pace, BUT (as I wrote before) if I will create a button inside that mc - it's perfectly glued to my cursor. So what should I code to get the same kind of button that I would get by entering mc and creating a button inside?
do anyone know how to load in an UIloader purely with action script withoud dragging it onto the stage?I have try the following code but it just can not work.
I am familiar with the method of embedding a SWF file in Actionscript and then creating a variable and assigning a corresponding UI element from the SWF.Is it possible to create and place UI elements like TextFields and SimpleButtons purely with Actionscript without first creating them in a SWF and embedding it?
I've created a skin that allows me to have two labels on a spark button, but the button text won't center vertically. It stays at the top of the button no matter what settings I give it. The icon in the skin DOES however, center vertically. This is the skin:
I am attempting to implement a layout in Adobe Flex 4.5 / MXML where I have multiple controls in an HBox that - in total - consume all available horizontal screen estate. Some use a relative with (percentage), some an absolute width (pixels) and one is supposed to consume whatever space is still left, such as:
+----------------------+-----------------------+------+ | 35% | fill parent | 10px | +----------------------+-----------------------+------+
How would I achieve this in Flex (is there something comparable to Android's layout_width="fillparent")? Due to the fact that there are elements that have an absolute width I cannot easily calculate the width of the filler as a percentage a priori (as it varies with the screen width). Setting the filler's width to 100% also does not work as this will shrink the 35% area below 35%. Applying the updateDisplayList suggestion from www.Flextras.com's answer below yields the error "Call to a possibly undefined method updateDisplayList" at the line marked in the source excerpt below:
Problem: Users of our web app are complaining how hard it is to get past Flash Player's Security Panel when they want to make video calls. (Personally, I don't see why it's hard.) We tried several things to guide them through the process, including callouts pointing to the Security Panel area with specific instructions and even an auto-play video. But still some don't get it. I think the biggest confusion is the "Close" button. Users think that it will close the app or the entire window.
Solution #1: It's possible that part of the problem is the small size and styling of the Security Panel. Is it possible to apply a style or skin to the Security Panel, so that it's larger and looks more consistent to our web app?
Solution #2: Perhaps there's also a non-technical solution. Has anyone seen a good implementation of a web app that make it easy for non-technical users to make video calls?
I want to use actionscript 3 to create mxml(flex 4) controls dynamically and automatically taking care of layout. For example, if I want to put 6 buttons and a s:label in a layout container by just specifying the positioning of the container and not the locations of individual controls.
SkinParts are a great way to add event handlers and logic to an object that is instantiated in the skin, away from any business code. Often, though, I find myself wanting to do the opposite, and define parts that will be used in reusable, skinnable containers in the parent mxml files which will be inserted into the skinned containers.
What's the best practice for when you want to be able to define a control and a skin which can be reused with different controls inserted from outside the skin? Edit: A better way to put this might be that I want to use something that works a little bit like a SkinnableContainer, but that isn't limited to one area where content can be placed.
I extend Button to create ImageButton, and I extend ButtonSkin to create ImageButtonSkin. But, when I define hostComponent like this:
public var hostComponent:ImageButton
I get an error that there is a conflict with hostComponent:ButtonBase inside the ButttonSkinBase. How do I extend a skin AND provide a new hostComponent for it?
How can we embed the over,up,down etc skins defined as sybols in a .swf file... i mean in skin file how can i specify those symbols to be used as up,over, down skins.
Does MXML get compiled down to as3 and then converted to flash bytecode? Also, is there a significant performance penalty to compiling mxml vs compiling as3?
I am working on a custom Flex 4 component which is an aggregation of two existing flex components. I would like to be able to specify my own custom properties for the component as well as access the existing public subcomponent properties via MXML. For instance I might want to adjust the font color or style for the label and text input. toy component which aggregates both a label and a text input:
I am trying to override a Button class, i have a few properties which i wish directly initialise with the mxml description of the component, like :[code]which function is triggered ( in order to override it ) when all properties with mxml description is fully initialised with their values ?
What I'd like to do: create an MXML component with some children, then extend it via MXML to create a new component with more children, without losing the original set.In other words
create a component bc.mxml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <s:BorderContainer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
I have a Custom Component that has a couple of Canvas with some background colors assigned to them. Now i have hard coded the colors, i want to move them to an external css file. So i would like to have the css declaration like this :
[Code]...
My question is if i can define custom style names like dividerRightColor and if so, how can i use that value inside my MXML Component? I have seen examples of using them inside Pure AS components.
A Flex components values are initlized by init methord. In an application flow, How to refresh a mxml component data value ; as init is callled at the start up it self only.
eg. of mxml componet may be as simple as button label or text as complex as repeater whose data provider is a web service ( means a fresh quesy should be made to pull the data and refresh the dataprovider of repeater )
suppose i have 3 buttons(for example say, productin, marketing, sales ) on my main.mxml..once i click on one button it should take me to abc.mxml page with production data, once again if i click on second button it should take me to the same abc.mxml but with marketing data. same as for 3rd button also, how can i achieve this ?
I've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
This is a project I'm working on for a simple demo tutorial application in Flex. I am using mxml pages. You can see to the left that I will have my main application and then other mxml files (In the Examples Package) as the examples that will be loaded into the main application mxml. How can I dynamically pull the value from the object in the list to load the child mxml file into the container that I have further down in the application?
how to make the preloader works on the full screen website/ fluid layout. I add the Stage.resize on the code for FYI When I added this code to the bar, it expanded to full screen, but there's no loading bar. The text is also no progress.
I would like to include an MXML file in my MXML file in the same way you can include an external file in AS3 using the include directive. Using the include directive brings the code from the external file into the original file at compile time placing it in the same scope. For example,
I'm using the default CS4 FLVPlayback skin, mainly the SkinOverPlayMute.swf. I know there's a skinAutoHide option, but because I don't want it to auto play, I want people to see a play button when they first encounter the video (so they don't think it's just an image). But the skin needs to hide when the video is actually playing (so the video doesn't get blocked by the controls).
In other works - when video isn't playing: skin showing; when video is playing: skin hide.
I'm trying to change the background color on a textinput component in flex 4. I've been able to change some of the appearance by messing with the canned code flash builder generates for the sparkskin but for some reason, background does nothing.I'm just trying to make the background black. I changed the background color but it's not working:[code]
