How do i open file and get its content as a ByteArray in AS3. I saw examples, using FileStream & File classes from flex.filesystem, but the doc says it's for AIR only.
I have a Flex application with a couple of DataGrids with data. I'd like to save the data to a file so that the user can keep working with them in Excel, OpenOffice or Numbers.
I'm currently writing a csv file straight off, which opens well in OpenOffice or Numbers, but not in Excel. The problem is with the Swedish characters, which turn up as other characters when opening in Excel. Converting (in Notepad++) the csv-file to ANSI encoding makes the show up correctly in Excel.
Is there any way to write ANSI-encoded files straight from Flex?
Any other options for writing a file that can be opened in Excel and OpenOffice?
I received a Flex project but don't know how to open it in Flash builder. It doesn't contain a project.mxml or .actionScriptProperties, .flexProperties and .project files. the file structure looks like this:
(rootFolder) -(com) subfoldrestructure containing only folders and .as files -(src) -(_embed)
[Code]...
how do I make a compilable Flex project out of this?
I am having trouble opening a file in the assets folder in my flex mobile application
var myFile:File = File.applicationStorageDirectory. ("@Embed('assets/file.txt')"); var myFileStream:FileStream = new FileStream(); myFileStream.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, glossaryFileOpened);
What is the best way to open and parse and excell file from a Flex Application built using Adobe Flash Builder 4.5. I have done tons of research, most lead me to external libraries, I could deal with that if that is the best approach, but prefer a built in method.
I have an application on Google App Engine that is made of Adobe Flex [and Java] components. The app has buttons to do tasks related to the app, including an "Open" button, which allows the user to open a .XML file, which then gets converted into data/content that's displayed in the app GUI. Then I press the "Run" button and it calculates stuff related to the inputted data/content. Also, my datastore is setup using JDO. I'm using only GAE. I'm NOT using GWT.
Based on the nature of the calculations (algorithms) I'm running, I would benefit from being able to open an XML file and then click the Run button on my app simultaneously on lets say 5 different versions of my app that I have uploaded to app engine. The 5 versions would be identical. Is there a way to create, say, an HTML page where the user would provide a link to the XML file (or open/load it from their disk) to be processed, then press "Go," where then the XML file is passed to all 5 versions of my app, then "automatically presses the Run button" on each?I can do this manually at the moment by going to each version-specific URL for my app, but it takes too long. Do you have any suggestions for how I would go about setting up such a script?
EDIT: Motivation for the problem: It's not XML processing time that I'm worried about. I currently have 2 algorithms that compute the number of particular types of "special points" that exist in an inputted XML file which contains large amounts of data. The difference between the two algorithms is that the 1st searches until it finds every special point. Then it stops. The 2nd searches and stops when it finds the first special point it comes across. Using multiple instances of this 2nd algorithm, one has the potential of finding all the points faster than the 1st algorithm.
I'm having problems getting the tutorial to work so I decided to look at the source fla. But the Source file won't open on my computer, get the message "failed to open document".

Using Flex 4.5 for Android development, this is the script that should create the database:

I have been working on a project for a week and suddenly it crashed during save (nothing strange had been imported or anything i just saved after moving content around) and now i cant open my file again. I contacted adobe support who claim that since the problem is related to the file this is not their problem, what a load of HORSE ****, who should i contact about this dell if its an FLA FILE!? I have already renamed the file to flash.zip then opened with WinRar and repaired as a new zip file to a different folder (which removes the corrupt content which is document something.xml) then i tried renaming this folder back to flash.fla however the file still does not open.

I am new to flash and I don't understand much about action script. I want to open one swf file from another using a button I have called ready_set_go. The project is not going to go into html format I only want to open the file locally. What is the code I need to do this?

I want it there and it works out fine.[code]The external swf file shows just as I want it to show when I press the button from the main.swf, Only, I have buttons inside my external swf that doesn't work. The external swf file just stays in frame 1 all the time.
I am not a stranger to Flash. I have been using it for years. I like it. I use it to create illustrations, but it has this weird issue where the more you edit the line points, the larger your file size gets, until it gets so large that you cannot open it anymore. I generally have this issue around the 7mb mark. I always try to keep an eye on my files and when they get around 3mb, I copy everything and paste them into a new file. I usually do this every two days, or so, if I am working on one illustration for a long time. However, it doesn't usually happen all at once. Today when I opened my file it was about 2mb. I closed it, and then when I went to reopen it had jumped to 14mb! I cannot open my file.
The specific error is, "There is not enough memory to open this scene. Your document is not damaged and may be safely saved. To increase available memory, close open documents or quit and use Get Info command in the Finder to allocate more memory to Flash." I have done searching on google and many people appear to get this error when there are problems with PNG's in the library for their file. The library for my file is completely empty. I have one scene, with about 10 layers. My file was created completely/exclusively in Flash. There are no PNG's or JPG's to be causing problems.
The last time this happened to me, I had a friend with a computer better than mine open the file for me, copy/paste all my layers into a new file, and then send it back. I have experience with the issue but I, unfortunately, don't know if I have any friends who can open 14mb flash files right now.
From my main.swf I want to open up a new play.swf window, while keeping my main.swf still open, but everytime I use loadMovie(),it opens up the play.swf and closes the other main.swf. how to achieve this(don't want to open in Internet Explorer, it should open standalone in flash player)
I've recently upgraded to CS4 and the latest version of Flash - I was wondering if it's posssible to open SWF's as .fla files? I'm a complete Novice in Flash even though I've worked as designer over 10 years.
I am having issues opening up fla files using Adobe cs3.
Scenario: The company I work for recently attained a client that has a website with flash programming on it. The client recently asked to have improvements made to their site. Part of the improvement deals with modifying the flash program. The client was able to hand over to the company I work for the source for their site which includes the adobe files for the flash program.
When I attempt to access the main fla program of the client's website, i receive the following message:"an error occurred opening the file."
what options are available for me to attempt to read the fla file?
I can't open a particular FLA file in my CS4.. is there any way for me to open it? And if not in Cs4, can you recommend other Flash versions like CS3 where I can open my FLA file
