I'm making a program in flash builder 4.5 using WebOrb 4 (which is fantastic, I might add). When I go to deploy, however, it gives me this error:
>There was an error during model deployment for xxxxProgram.
>
>The server returned the following message:
>
>Unable to contact the RDS Server "Data Services on Tomcat (localhost)."
>
>Connection refused: connect
>
>Do you want to continue launching your Flex application?
I've poked around online for a solution, but for the most part I either don't understand them (forum grammar can be somewhat obtuse) or the answer in the post doesn't apply.

I have a problem using Flex with BlazeDS on a Tomcat 5.5 through a Proxy (Apache). I already searched for it but didn't find answers which solved my problem. I hope you guys can help me out. Our scenario is the following: Flex-App using BlazeDS to communicate with our Dataservice on a Tomcat 5.5.The Webapp is balze enabled and the services config contains channel definitions like the following:
<channel-definition id="my-amf" class="mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel">
<endpoint url="http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8180/myDataService/messagebroker/amf" class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint">

There is a flash movie which is using flash.net.Socket to connect to a server. But there could be a situation when the server is not running, hence nothing is listening on the port socket is connecting to.
When I do "telnet hostname port" I get a fast connection refused error. But flash.net.Socket does not invoke any event (see below), but silently waits for socket timeout. For me it is important to reduce time needed to detect non-existing server as much as possible to be able to reconnect to another server in the cluster.
I've tried the following events, but to no avail:
close
connect
ioError
securityError
socketData
None of these is invoked in such situation.
Is there a way to detect that TCP connection has been refused using flash.net.Socket?

The task is to try to connect directly to a stateless EJB deployed on Glassfish. I have already done this via Web Service and I can also connect to the EJB by calling a remote java object which uses JNDI to find and load the bean. What I cannot do is directly connect to the EJB with Blazeds. I am using EBJ3Factory BY Ryan Norris (downloaded from adobe site) as follows;

is it possible to connect to two different BlazeDS servers from the same Flex app? I have already read this question: Can a Flex client app connect to BlazeDS running on a different server? However, it appears to be discussing the possibility of connecting a Flex client to a BlazeDS on a different server but not necessarily to another BlazeDS on a different server.
One Flex client connecting to two webapps using BlazeDS - Detected duplicate HTTP-based FlexSessions
In attempts I have tried, I get the error mentioned in the second question above: Detected duplicate HTTP-based FlexSessions, generally due to the remote host disabling session cookies. Session cookies must be enabled to manage the client connection correctly.
Is connecting one Flex application to two BlazeDS enabled servers completely impossible? We want to be able to have a "common functionality" BlazeDS server that is used by a number of Flex apps that each have their own local BlazeDS server for their own functionality.
The way I'm currently doing it:
In my mxml file, I'm defining a a channset like so:
<mx:ChannelSet id="dataService1Channel">
<mx:channels>
<mx:AMFChannel id="dataService1AmfChannel"
[Code].....
The calls work and I can get the data but I'm getting that warning I mentioned in the form of an alert in the Flex application.

As far as In understand the Flex technology, a Flex client connects to a Flex server to retrieve business information. Is this the only allowed connection for the client, back to the originating server? Or can a Flex client also open a secondary connection to a different server wich runs BlazeDS for message exchange?(This might offer an option for load balancing and cross-platform development).
Update: I have found this page which links to the Cross-domain policy file specification:[URL]..

I have been developing an application(a website to be more precise) which consists of a flex front end which is constantly sending and receiving data from the back end which is programmed in java. The connection between the two components is being done through blazeds. This worked fine while I was running it locally, however when I uploaded both sides of the application to a tomcat server(online) the following error is being returned when a connection between the components should occur:URL...I have read around about this error and many seem to getting this error when making connections between different servers, unlike here, where the connection is occurring within the same server.

Context : I'm working on a Flash application developed with FDT and compiled with Flash CS4 (I need a huge library). It should connect to various Weborb services.Weborb is properly configured. My services are properly executed, and values returned, via the management console. Weborb examples as well as various tests compiled with Flex are fully functionnal.
Problem : when I try to adapt the code to compile with Flash, and setup the remote object like this :
var remoteObject = new RemoteObject();
remoteObject.destination = "GenericDestination";
remoteObject.source = "MyServices.MyService";[code]....
Question: how to properly setup a RemoteObject to connect to a Weborb remoting service from a Flash application compiled with Flash ?

What if I have a Flash signature with same flash movie on the page 3 times and I click on the button on the first movie. Can the other 2 movies do the same action the first movie is doing?
I thought thats what LocalConnection was for but when the second movie tries to LocalConnection.connect it says the connection is already connected.

Optivote IR8 is basically a voting system with a bunch of remote controllers, which can send IR signals to a receiver, which is connected to a computer through a USB port. And I'm trying to write my own little software for that with Flash.Optivote receiver communicates with software through a virtual serial port. When I connect to that port through PuTTY, I can see signals whenever I press any button on the remote controllers. Although, when I connect to that port through Serproxy (which relays a socket connection to a serial port connection), the remote controllers don't seem to work. I just get the same signal every half a second or so, over and over. I'm guessing the receiver is trying to make some kind of handshake this way.
The thing I can't figure out is what PuTTY does that Serproxy doesn't to make the serial port connection work. Maybe there's some proper way to tell the other end when I connect?(I use Serproxy, because Flash applications cannot connect to a serial port directly, but supports socket connections)

Im trying to make connection from flex to java and from java to mysql. I managed to connect to java, but having error that class not found: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver. But i downloaded mysql.jar, included it added to library, and connection works when i testing it from clipse scrapbook. Dont know what to do, i spend last couple days on this.
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
String username = "username";
String password = "password";
[code]....
Basically the solution was simple. Everybody keeps saying to put jar into lib folder, so i done it, but i wasnt realised that i have to put into my servers lib directory, not app lib directory and this miserable mistake cost so much. Anyway i hope this will help for some newbie like me.In this particular situation im using red5, so i putted it into my red5 dist/lib directory and "surprisingly" its started to work.

I have to port an existing project to Maven, and it includes a resource called "config.xml" that is copied to the deploy directory alongside the SWF and HTML, and loaded at run-time to locate a bunch of WSDLs.
Flex Mojos has taken it upon itself to assume that my xml file is a flex-config file with instructions for the compiler, which of course promptly gives up the ghost.
The question is: How do I specify a named config file for the compiler so that Maven stops this nonsense (as well as specifying my compile-time options)?

I am using Flex/Flash to build a UI which front-ends my Rails server application. I am using WebORB as the communication mechanism. My question should apply beyond just WebORB, however. (I think).
Specifically, it has to do with the services-config.xml file. I have a local (laptop) dev environment, a remote dev and a remote production environment. I am sick of editing the URL in the services-config.xml file, rebuilding and deploying every time I want to test in a different environment.
[Code]...
By setting the URI="/weborb" and giving it a relative path, I figured it would work. locally--but it doesn't when I deploy it to my remote dev and prod environments (Heroku). Weird.

We can auto-generate flex-confix xml file from flash-builder so to provide users that want to compile project on there own would be capable of doing such thing with out buying FB. So we use something like -dump-config slotConfig.xml as flex compiler argment. This generates a file for us... with lots of detailed comments like this one I generated from that project:

I get a Flex 3 sandbox error #2048 after connecting to a Socket on a Java (1.5) server. The server code is all mine, i.e. not running under Apache. Flash Player 10.0 r32.The sequence is as follows...
1 Java server starts, listens on port 843 for policy file request and on port 45455 for my other requests.
2 Flex client served by Apache (although I get the same result if I run it from the file system), socket connection made on host:45455.
3 Flash Player requests policy file from port 843. This is the standard behaviour with the new security settings looking for a master file. It happens regardless of whether a different policy file has been specified.
4 I serve the following XML from Java through port 843:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<site-control permitted-cross-domain-policies="all"/>
<allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" secure="false"/>
</cross-domain-policy>
5 The player writes the following into the debug policy log...
OK: Root-level SWF loaded: http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf
OK: Searching for <allow-access-from> in policy files to authorize data loading from resource at xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:45455 by requestor from http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf
OK: Policy file accepted: xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:843
OK: Request for resource at xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:45455 by requestor from http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf is permitted due to policy file at xmlsocket://192.168.2.3:843
6 I send a text message from the client to the server on port 45455 using writeUTFBytes() and flush() (this is my own home-baked message protocol, and is correctly processed at each end)
REG/REGISTER;simon;Si
7 Java server thread listening on port 45455 responds with
REG:0/REGISTER:SUCCESS;simon;Si
8 The Flex client receives a ProgressEvent and the event listener I bound to the socket gets called. I process the message (write it to a text box on the screen)
9 The Flash player throws a 2048 sandbox error and the socket is disconnected! This is after the message is received and processed successfully. In fact it is about 12 seconds after. Nothing else works through the socket.
I have tried explicitly loading a policy file with a call to Security.loadPolicyFile() in the Flex client, but the reality of the new player security is that it is basically ignored. The steps are that the policy request will not get sent until a socket i/o operation occurs. At that point the player always goes to port 843 first looking for a master policy file. If it finds one, and it is permissive, it goes no further.
I have tried a variety of alternative ways of terminating the policy file and policy file contents, including deliberate errors just to see if the Flash Player is awake.I can see no reason why I would have a 2048 being thrown. I accurately serve a socket policy file on the designated master security port, which the player itself logs as correct. The socket then successfully sends and receives a message from the server the contents of which are available to my code.
P.S. Please don't tell me to use BlazeDS or LCDS or Granite, or something else as a server, I'm looking for a solution to this problem, not a redesign. And please don't ask me to use an XMLSocket instead - I tried that and get exactly the same result. I have chosen my architecture carefully and deliberately and I want a binary socket.
EDIT :In response to James Ward's request in his comment, here is the entire error message:
Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf cannot load data from 192.168.2.3:45455.
I have a stripped down test client which has a handler for each socket event and outputs a message to the screen. This is what it shows:
RequestPolicy: 192.168.2.3:843
Create Socket: 192.168.2.3:45455
Connect: [Event type="connect" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2]
Sending: REG/REGISTER;simon.palmer@gmail.com;Si
Receiving: REG:0/REGISTER:SUCCESS;simon.palmer@gmail.com;Si/
Close: [Event type="close" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2]
Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://localhost/bst/BasicSocketTest.swf cannot load data from 192.168.2.3:45455.
The close event is fired immediately after successfully receiving a response from the server, however the Error #2048 does not appear until about 20 seconds later. If I try and send a further message after close, but before the error, the Flash Player throws an invalid socket exception.
