Flex :: Word Wrap In Button Label?
Oct 31, 2009The standard Flex button does not allow the Label Text to word wrap. I read in the internet that there are some undocumented ways to handle this but I did not get them to work.

Jan 10, 2007I'm using the TextInput component, but it doesn't seem toallow for a word wrap - when you type your letters just keep goingoff to the right and what you typed on the left isn't visible. Ifigure there's gotta be a way, but I looked around in thefiles and couldn't find it? Does anyone know how to do this?

Jan 19, 2009Is there a way to show a long text in a dynamic text field with multiline attribute = on, without word wrapping? E.g., A dynamic text field contains 2 lines, and multiline is set to on. If I try to display a text in the text field, it is wrapping at the word, thereby losing some space in the text field (see code below):

The display is showing only "One Hundredyear" in two lines, and the rest of characters are below the visible text area. The issue here is in the first line there is only "One" displayed, leaving a lot of space. If I can accommodate more characters in the first line, without word wrapping, the second line can accommodate the rest of the characters.

Jul 5, 2010I've got some sentences I need to put in a ComboBox as selections. They are much too long for the width of the box on the page. Is there a way to wrap the text in the ComboBox? I'm wondering if I need to put the text into a jpg or something and use that as the label.

Sep 24, 2009I trying here to avoid having to bind resources to all my components labels ( ie a button) and find a way to have this automated.
Problem: It corrupts the layout in design mode to bind directly in the mxml label="{resourceManager.getString('myResources', 'submit')}" and makes the design view useless. but when declaring bindings elsewhere, in actionScript or via a bind tag, it is counter productive and prone to many errors and miss.
Proposition: I would like to create my own button that automatically invoke resources to localize a button label. So the author puts "Submit" in the mxml description of my button, and when running it would take the value of the label ie "submit" and use resourceManager.getString('myResources', 'submit').
but I can't find the way to override the set label function, Is it possible if yes how? else how can I go about it?
Maybe I am missing an essential process here that would make the use of resources more elegant, as well as how to override such thing as a button's label.

Nov 24, 2009I create a custom component to override the linkButton to make it behave that if an exist value is found, it would shown as "Added".
By default the button label is "Add to cart", I could not make the button become "Added" after trying many trial and error on uHandler which I suppose, COMPLETE, ENTER_FRAME, CREATION_COMPLETE could not even update the label.

Mar 11, 2011I have a button in my application and I want it to respond a bit in a special way. Initially the label color of the button is White, I want the color of the text to change to 50% white on the Over State and to 25% on the Down state. Is this possible?
I tried an alternative way using css which does not do the percentage stuff but only changes the color (see css code below), but this does not seem to work. I more specifically want the color to change in terms of percentage like I mentioned above.
Note that I am using the Skin file only to loads images for each state on the button.

Jun 12, 2009I have created a linkbar with two labels. Now, I need to keep a track of the label clicks.i.e. If in the beginning "First" is clicked, the details will be displayed. After that, if without submitting the details, "Second" is clicked then an alert message should come to inform the user that "First is still in progress, do you want to cancel and begin Second operation". Unfortunatly I still have to make the decision on which RIA technology to use and its dependent on, among other things, from the following case: How can we wrap a java applet around a Flex application? More specifically, I would like to wrap/integrate NASA's World Wind applet in a Flex panel, similar to what Adrew Trice did with the Google Earth API.
An alternative would be id Flex would support direct access to the 3D hardware through OpenGL or DirectX. But I do not think that that is the case yet, not even through AIR.

The "If you have not entered your credentials, enter your credentials by clicking" is a string.The "Set Credentials" is a button so it can be clicked by the user.I tried putting the string in a textarea which wrapped the text but could not get the button to horizontally align with the text. I also tried adding them both with Tile, then I do not get proper wrapping.

Flex :: Wrap Buttons Items In A Linkbar In It?
Mar 23, 2011I'm working with a LinkBar component with a dataprovider that changes dynamically. Users can add and delete items from the LinkBar using an admin tool.
The problem is if the user adds many items in the LinkBar its width increases until it shows a scrollbar in my container.
I would like it to work so that when the user adds items, the LinkBar width is not changed but the height of the component increases instead and the additional buttons "wrap" around to another row.

It does not recognize myButton. In flash I could access a button instance after adding it using the instance name. Can't you do this in flex?

I am now trying to enhance some of the features.I would like to see if I can display one letter of each word so the Player has a hint. Think of this as a beginners level.The words are random from a text list. Either I can make the letters invisible and the game starts without a hint or I am able to select a letter using charAt() or creating a new variable substring()from the word which is the displayed repeatedly on the stage(not what I want) I have not been able to find a way to display one letter and display it in the correct order within the word and keep the remaining letters invisible.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Drag-the-word Quiz - Make The Word Fit Into The White Box?
Apr 1, 2003I am doing drag-the-word quiz. When you match the word with correct part, the message pop out, saying Bingo! If the word is matched with wrong part, the "Sorry. Try Again" message pops out, says "Sorry. Try Again". I managed to make the "Sorry. Try Again" message disappear. However it dun work anymore after that. Sometimes it is quite funny. When I play it, the "Sorry. Try Again" message dun pop out at all.
Another problem - I am not sure how to make the word fit into the white box. I only know how to make the word drop on the white box. Can you tell me how to do it? I will be adding voiceovers to the quiz when the word is matched with the part. For e.g it will say "bingo" or "Sorry. Try Again". How to attach the voiceovers to it?
