View 3 RepliesI recently got flex builder 3, and it seems to be a really cool IDE.
View 4 RepliesCreating some flash desktop apps to be run fullscreen in a condo lobby. I'd like the ability for an administrator to login to the interface and then click a button to 'close' the flash app from within itself, thus closing the flash player and returning to the desktop.
View 2 Repliesi saw that one can create apps for desktop and for hand held devices..
View 1 RepliesOr a word doc or XLS file in the native file viewer on iOS devices. navigateToURL does not seem to work. I have included a test.pdf file in the "included files" in my iOS settings but won't launch on the device.
View 1 RepliesIs there any clear view on how to build 3d apps in flash? I have heard of paperview(?) and recently saw something called Away3d. Are there any other choices and any clear leaders?
View 1 RepliesI would like to know if any awesome dude knows if there are any AS3 Flex tutorials on the net or in books that explains how to build apps and games from scratch - step by step via Flex
View 4 RepliesI am a web developer well-versed in XHTML/CSS, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, and XML/XSL. I would like to write a desktop application for music teachers that manipulates audio files. The app will:
-Input one or more audio files
-Let the user pick in and out points of several clips
-Play those clips at the touch of a button with fade-in and -out
-Render those clips out to new audio files
The application must:
-Run on Windows, Mac, and Linux without tons of extra coding for each
-Have a nice GUI for totally non-tech-savvy people (i.e. professors)
I've never built a desktop application before, and am prepared to learn a new language. From what I've read, an Adobe AIR app built with ActionScript and Flex seems to be the most straightforward. I'm not thrilled about learning such a proprietary system, though. Is this possible using AJAX through AIR?
I want to build apps to stream to Apple/IOS devices but I don't have an Ipad or Iphone.......what programs can I use to emulate Apple/IOS devices? Is there an emulator? Or will a download of quicktime work? maybe HTML5 video object will work in any webbrowser. I haven't looked into what it takes to use FMS on Apple/IOS devices, so maybe I will answer this question by this afternoon.
View 6 RepliesIs there a unique device ID that I can use in Flash Builder/AS3 to differentiate between devices in a Flex mobile project? I am trying to circumvent having to code a login/registration system.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to build an AIR app to convert a group of png images in my desktop to SWFs.So far I can do that using PNGEncoder to convert the loaded images into a byteArray and then using another ByteArray to generate the swf.The problem is I want to compress the images as well and PNGEncoder class doesn't support compression. I triyed with JPGEncoder, which supports compression, but it wont support transparency.
What I'm trying to do is something like the properties menu in the Flash IDE where you can select a png and apply a jpg compression to it. And when you export the png's transparency is preserved. The point of this is so is easy to convert, lets say, 100 pngs into swfs (without having to load each one of them into flash, adjust document size, export, ...)
In TFS 2010 build, I have a new build and I want to call an ant script that builds Flash. How do I call the ant script? Also How can I compile the Flash directly? I've seen the Power Tools and this question but it doesn't help me as we don't have TFS 2008. I can't find any documentation on how to use the power tools except the 1 sentence on the bottom of download page saying to create your build the old way and import it (which isn't very helpful). I've installed the power tools on the agent computer but I don't see any new options in the Toolbox when I'm designing the build flow.
View 2 RepliesI just started working with ant a few days ago. Right now I have a general buildall.xml which should call each project's build.xml. Because some projects depend on each other, I need to rebuild some other projects which depend on it. This isn't a problem--I'm just setting the depends property of the target. However, ant is always building the dependencies, even when the files haven't changed.Let's say project1 has no dependencies; project2 depends on project1; project3 depends on project1, 2; project4 depends on project1, 2, and 3; and so on.I could hack a solution which looks at project K, and checks if project 1 .. project K have updated files using uptodate. If so, then run the target. This is messy and appears unnecessary.
What is the cleanest way to implement this?EDIT: So I decided to just hack in a bunch of targets, "check_projectK" where it does the uptodate checks on all of its source files, its build file, and the build files of the 1 .. K-1 projects. Due to dependencies, this is always handled correctly. However, this is still a large amount of copy and paste for a large workspace.
Is it possible to make desktop Air application by using HTML/JavaScript and Flash?Actually I want to make an Air app (which is for desktop) by using flash and want to use HTML , javascript and CSS as well.Is it possible ?

View 1 RepliesI have a situation where I need my swf to load from a domain. Currently my flex set up always loads a SWF from file [URL]...
View 1 Repliesim completely lost on how to do a simple multiline label. The docs say that labels are best used as single lined elements, but that alludes to it being able to do multiline if necessary. Anyone have any clarification on the subject?
View 3 RepliesI have an Adobe AIR/FLEX app packaged as a native installer application running on the desktop. From there, I need to do the following:
a) stay in the "app:" application sandbox so I can load "file://" JPGs into my mx:HTML control
b) authenticate with my server (CAKEPHP) to get a valid CAKEPHP Session Cookie, and
c) securely GET/POST XHR requests from javascript.
Can I authenticate using something like OAUTH or Facebook Connect without losing the application sandbox? It seems if I redirect from my mx:HTML, I lose my local privileges. Can I authenticate with my server using a different sandbox (remote?) and safely pass the Session Cookie to my application sandbox? Are either of these methods safe against scripting attacks?
I have 2 flex apps on the same page. I want them to be able to call each other's public functions. I am thinking of using either externalInterface calls or FaBridge to do so.
View 2 Repliesi'm new to creating desktop applications. I've a working site in php with mysql support. I want to convert this site into a desktop application. Is Adobe AIR or Adobe Flex better?can i use php as such in both AIR and Flex? or should i convert them to xml or something which it uses?
View 3 RepliesI have only worked on web apps for my whole career.I'm starting a new desktop (Adobe AIR) app project but I found myself having difficulties with:
stuck with thinking about overall UI design in the traditional page model
not sure how to handle the navigation part in the UI
not taking advantage of states
deciding what should be implemented on client vs server side, (or on both?).
Suppose I develop an application with the logic as a CLI program that can be compiled to various platforms. To add a GUI, I could develop native versions separately for each platform or I could use a cross-platform tool like Tcl/Tk, wxLua, or PyGTK. Some people, like Bruce Eckel and James Ward, promote Flash/Flex on Adobe AIR for this.[code]...
View 1 RepliesI have created a simple SWF-loader in ActionScript 3.0. It loads an SWF from a server and then plays it. While downloading, it displays the "loading" screen. Its main defect is that it can load only one Flash application - the one which it is compiled for. Let's say it's named test1.swf.Is there any way to make the loader support more than one Flash app (for example test2.swf and test3.swf)? I mean by passing external parameters to it and not by creating another loader. Is using Javascript the only way to do it? I don't want my loader to require the Javascript support.
View 1 RepliesI know there have been similar threads in the past but I can't seem to find a decent definitive answer / workaround for the problem I'm facing. What I'm trying to do: capture ALT+SHIFT+something keyboard events. Pretty straightforward, right?
Issue: When pressing ALT+SHIFT doesn't seem to ever shoot an event. The only combination that seems to work with ALT is CTRL+ALT +something, as pointed out here.
Question: I've read that the browser catches some of the keyboard events, but this happens with the basic flash player too - maybe that catches events too? Would love to know if there is a solution that doesn't involve messing with JS.
Is it possible to have an AIR application built in Flex run as process or receive intents? For example if I wanted to make a calendar and each time there was an event at a certain time, have the AIR up which isn't running in the foreground, pop-up and inform the user that "it's time". Can it be done with the current stable versions of both AIR and Flex SDK?
View 1 RepliesCan Flex be used for a desktop application whose business logic is written using Java? Everything I've read about flex uses a remoting or http protocol to communicate with the backend via a J2EE server, so I'm not sure how that would work for a desktop app (unless an embedded j2ee server was running in the app).
View 4 RepliesI create a Flex Desktop App by Flex builder 4. I want to log some debug info into a file , named by process id
//var pid:int = NativeApplication.nativeApplication.getPid() ??
var logFile:String = "/var/log/MyApp_"+pid+".log";
Is these any API to get pid in Flex/ActionScript3?
I want to create a simple desktop admin application for an IOS app that will work with a REST api I've built.Couple of years ago I would go with Flex/Air, just makes it very simple. But since I am butt-hurt with the way Adobe have handled Flash in general, I am looking to write it using some different tool.So far, Java Swing looks rubbish (UI-wise I mean). Others aren't cross platform and often too complicated.
View 1 RepliesI have a Flex app I built. It uses the BrowserManager class to listen for changes in the # part of the URL. When a change is made to the hash my application updates accordingly so you can link directly to a state of the application. Also inside my programming when a user clicks something, all I do is use the BrowserManager to update the # and then my listener will apply the correct changes once its finished. I believe this is the best practice way to doing this in Flex.
I have some issues though. When using the Back button in FF or IE, it gets "stuck". for example if the hash is like #state4 clicking the back button will take you to #state3 then #state2 but sometimes get stuck where you can be on #state3 click the back button, see it flicker to #state2 real quick then change back to #state3 preventing you from going back any further in your history.

What's the best way to communicate between 2 Flex/Flash apps on the same webpage? I need a 3rd party Flash app to call a function on my Flex 4 app (they are ready to customize their 3rd party app how I specify). I use ExternalInterface.call("javascript_function", arguments) extensively. I know there's a bridge to go from Javascript to Actionscript as well. So I guess I could go from their flash app -> javascript function -> flex bridge -> my flex app. Do I have to go through javascript? Is there a better way?
