My menu works fine with a local Array, but I seem to have an issue with the Type being a String and not an Array, but how do I set it up properly so the types are corect?

Heres goes the zip file, which contains .fla and .xml files. What I want to do is when I put the mouse at the top of the mask, the menu stops on the first option, and when I put the mouse at the bottom, the menu stops on the last option. Is it possible? [URL]
View 3 RepliesI'm about to build an OOP signup form in AS2 with realtime data validation. There are 3 fields 'Username', 'Password' and 'Email' and two of those will check with the server to see if the the username or email is taken. This is almost identical to the signup form on [URL] The way I've experimented with so far is to begin an onEnterFrame event on the textField as it receives focus. This onEnterFrame function checks for spelling, character count etc When the textField loses focus it then sends the data to the server and checks if it already exists. If it doesn't, it will validate. What I've written works rather well (up until the submitting - haven't worked that out yet) but the code is rather unwieldy and seems too long.
What is the best way to go about building this? Are onEnterFrame checkers the best way to go? Should the data send to the server onKillFocus? Should the submit button trigger all the onEnterFrame validation functions to run again (in case the user didn't wait for validation)

View 1 RepliesI have a chart with X-axis showing timeline and Y-axis showing value for an object. The time line values are in 'milliseconds'. I have give the user a way to select timeline, user can select a day/week/month/months. So, in my Chart I want to show all the data points for the selected range but want to limit the date labels displayed on the X-axis. For Ex: if user selects a week, I want to display Mon to Sun on the X-axis. And if user selects a day, want to display a label for every 3 hrs like that...
I guess it is possible if only, I look at the selected time range at run-time and based on the starting (t1) and end (t2) time, I make a decision. Is there any API available in Flex's DateTimeAxis to achieve this ? Or any other ideas on how to get this working ?

The usage in the project is to be able to represent any data from a database, with any number of possible groupings on the horizontal and vertical axis.
Could someone offer some guidance on the most efficient structure to get an XML return in order to build these kind's of pivots on the fly. All the examples I have seen are statically defined. What I would like to do is be able to have a structure for a return that could give any level of grouping and data return from a web service call.
The tool I'm building is a reporting tool, so users could drag any DB field into column or row potentially so the key thing is the ability to define and build "any structure" a user would want.
I am trying to create a datagrid in FLEX. The trouble is that I want it to be 100% dynamic - i.e. columns & data.
Basically I need to populate the datagrid via a result set from a database query, this data will be gathered via a standard java spring jdbc dao layer. The query is as generic as 'select * from tablename', so the result set can change from query to query.
My plan is to convert this result set into some form of java object, my initial thought is a Map of some kind that will contain the column name and values for a row.
The bit Im struggling with is that I need to convert this result set into a ActionScript object (via graniteds) that I can then use to populate a datatable.
I have seen lots of examples on how to dynamically add columns to the datagrid, and tie in the data via the datafield object - but Im stuck as to how I do this if I dont know how many columns I will have or what the column names will be.
I'm changing the way I build my UI from this:

It's simple menu that contains one MC at start that works as button, u can edit size of the menu from external .txt file by changing the value of menu length. All that works fine , my problem is that every new duplicated mc contains dynamic text area as a label. Labels are also loaded from that .txt file , but that works only for the 1st mc because the newly created text areas in mc's dont have Instance Name set. How can i assign them from as?

View 1 RepliesBasically, I have a button and on click it displays a menu. I want to click that menu a second time and the menu closes. Currently, every time you click the button, the menu reopens. I pasted the Flex livedoc example below. If you click the button, the menu keeps reopening.Now, I rigged it up by setting a var to open and closed, so when clicking the button it does a check. However, if you click away from the screen, the HIDE event gets dispatched, and the menu closes. This messed up the open close var being set.
How could I make this Flex example below show the menu on button click, and then on a second button click, it closes the menu? Take into affect that if you click away from the menu, it closes it.Also, I played around with the MOUSE_DOWN_OUTSIDE event for the button and set the preventDefault, and the FlexMouseEvent event.cancelable is set to false.Changing to a PopUpMenuButton is not an option. I have to much skinning involved.Here is the Flex example:
