Flex :: Playing A Large/long H264 File With NetStream Takes A LONG Time To Begin Playback?
Aug 1, 2010I'm trying to play a 10 minute long video (h264/mp4) which is 39MB in size, after I call stream.play(fileURL) it doesn't start playback until its loaded around 12-16MB of the file (many many seconds later), I finally get onMetaData at this point too. Why doesn't it begin playback right away, or at least w/in a couple seconds? What can cause this bloated lead in time?

Jan 28, 2010I have an HTTPService that executes the dataLoaded(e:ResultEvent):void function whenever it gets a result from a send() call. OK so If I call HTTPService.send() and then call HTTPService.send() again before the previous one receives a result, I end up repeatedly running dataLoaded() which is undesirable What I want is if HTTPService.send() gets called before a previous call to it returns a result. I want to cancel the first call, and only process the result from the last call to HTTPService.send()

Sep 13, 2010I am trying to add an eventlistener to the stage to respond to a resizing. When doing so i want to keep the relative position of a movieclip-object constant to the upper and leftmost edges, without changing the alignmode of the stage to top left. This can be achieved as shown below - examplified with two classes and reference to fla implied. The problem is now: When supplying the crucial statements with a Math.round, the movieclip-object gets displaced pixelwise with each new resizing:
myMovieClip.x -= Math.round((deltaX / 2));
myMovieClip.y -= Math.round((deltaY / 2));
Whereas the solution without Math.round is rock stable so it doesn't move at all, as it is not supposed to either! Can anyone figure out why? I know it's a luxury-problem, as my use case is solved. The problem is that i don't know why? Shouldn't the use of Math.round just assure the int-value? Such a small issue could easily spoil the whole app! And i fear that i have misunderstood something fundamental in as3, and suddenly become unpleasantly surprised.

Xml :: Automatically Call The Httpservice.send?
Mar 29, 2010I have an application that displays the data from 3 xml files (auto generated from SQL table) using httpservices to get them.The first xml file is small and contains around 30 items, the second and thrid contain around 200-300 items each.The first dataset loads quickly and is invoked on creationComplete. The second and third are called from click events and take quite a few seconds to load. A user of the application will take at least 2-3 minutes reading the data from the first dataset so is there a way I can have the httpservice.send for the second and third xml files called automatically, straight after the first file has finished loading to be able to show the first dataset immediateley and get rid of the waiting times between dataset views.

Mar 25, 2010I am trying to work with a simple HTTPService. The problem is that my webservice is conscious of the order of arguments it gets. I will tell the problem with an example:
var service:HTTPService = new HTTPService();
var params:Object = new Object();
params.rows = 0;
params.facet = "true";
service.send(params);
Note that in the above code I have mentioned the parameter rows before facet, but the url I recieve is facet=true&rows=0. So I recieve the argument rows before facet and hence my webservice does not work. I figured out that the contents of array is always sent in alphabetical order, which I dont want.
Is there any way I can achieve explict ordering of parameters sent?
Note that I am not in power of changing the logic of webservice(its basically a RPC service supporting both desktop and web client).
Flex :: Send Some Data To PHP Using HTTPService POST?
Jun 2, 2010I'm trying to send some data to PHP using HTTPService POST but for some reason it's not working. The same example works with GET but not with POST:

But when I change the method in HTTPService to GET and in PHP I get the result as expected - PHP sends back the date:

Saving File Takes Too Long?
Feb 6, 2012I have a problem when saving flash files in a mac. The process is much slower than in my other computer with windows, using the same file. I save my flash files very often and having to wait that long is very annoying. The problem can't be the file itself, I have tried saving different files and there is always more delay in mac compared to windows. In my mac I have OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) with Flash 5.5 and in my other pc, Windows XP SP3 with Flash CS 5. Has somebody experienced this before? What could be the origin? It's weird because my mac is new and is supposed to have better features than my windows pc which I bought many years ago I am a relatively new mac user and I have heard some people complaining about Lion OS X. What is your opinion?

Oct 19, 2010I've used the Flex HTTPService to connect to a backend blazeDS service without any problems at all. The question I have is, can I also use HTTPService to send a HTTP POST message to a server (with basic authentication)?
Specifically I'd like to be able to interface Flex with Notifo [URL] and to interface with it you just need to send a http POST with authentication and some key:value strings for the message content. (I've done it from java and from the command line with curl and it all seemed pretty easy to set but I'm just not sure how to go about trying this with Flex).
How would this be done via the HTTPService (if at all) ?
Can anyone see how the mxml/as class would look like and what would be in the services-config file and what adapters need to be used etc etc ??
Media Server :: Connecting Takes A Long Time
Oct 15, 2009For some reason connecting to Flash Media Server 3.5 takes around 40 seconds. The server is running on Windows Server 2008 (64-bit edition) on a virtual server located in a reliable hosting center and I'm connecting to it over the internet. The server is using built-in Windows Firewall with all the inbound TCP ports required by Flash Media Server opened (80, 1935 and 1111).
If I disable the server's firewall the connection time drops to 20 seconds, but it's still pretty damn long time just for establishing connection. We probably have some company firewall at this end (the client side), but other streaming media services works just fine over this connection.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash.media.Sound.play Takes Long Time To Return
Apr 25, 2010I'm trying to play some sounds in my flash project through action script. However for some reason in my code the call to Sound.play takes from 40ms to over 100ms in extreme cases, which is obviously more than enough to be very noticeable whenever a sound is played. This happens every time a sound is played, not just when that sound is first played, so I dont think its because the Sound object is still loading data or anything like that...
At the start I have this to load the sound:

This as far as I can tell is following the same process as other Flash programs I found, however none of them seem to have this problem. Is there something that I've missed that would cause the play() method to be so slow?
Flash :: Professional - Video On Webpage Takes Very Long Time To Load Before It Starts Playback
Nov 21, 2011I just created a basic flash file to play a video on my web page and it's taking several minutes to load before it starts playback. I'm using progressive downlaod and the file is in *.mov format and is 84MB in size. At first that seemed large to me for web play back, but I thought it could handle it since I thought the way progressive download works is that it would start playing the first frame right away and progressively play other frames as they download. However, this seems to be downloading the whole file first (or a major part of it) before starting any playback at all.
Is there some kind of setting I'm missing or is my understanding of the download incorrect and the file size is too large? Some vitals: I'm using Flash Pro CS5 - To create my flash file, I used the standard import video wizard and selected the a file that is "on my computer" and "load external video with playback component" and then, I selected one of the standard skins.- To deploy the vidoe on my webiste I have three files:
1) swf file containing the FLV component
2) the swf file related to skin
3) the actual video (84MB, mov file) - Web page includes/embeds reference to swf file

My idea is to wrap all the methods in try. catch blocks which then pass the Error object to the reportError() function (which then fires off the HTTP request and pops up a dialog) but is there a better way?

May 30, 2010im following some suggestions to cut my flash website into a few sections to make preloading a bit easier.
so all i want is to make a small round ring rotate as long as the file is loading. so i looked and followed a lot tutorials but all the preloaders tutorials are much more compliceted then i need. they all have persentige sowing, and a bar that is filling according to how much the file has loaded, and colors changing etc. so i tried to take from the tutorials wat i need for my simple preloader to work but i get stuck.i built the animation of the rotating ring, but i get stuck with the actions i need to make the animation work as long as the file is working. i called my ring animation "circularloader". here is a image of the page with the ring:

I have a button and when its clicked its call a function, that calls loginData.send and does a little IF condition, that IF condition relies on the data returned by loginData.The condition doesn't work because its called right next to the loginData.send, and .send method still didn't returned the values from the XML file. But if you click it a second time a second after the first click the IF condition works.So to deal with i wanted to do a eventListener so that when loginData.send returned the data from the XML it fires up the IF condition. But i don't know how to do it.

Aug 5, 2009The form is in a component lauched as a popUp, form data consists in:
login:String
password:String
I thought of a few different ways, but I don't like them..in the popUp, send button triggers a function that gets the form values and stores them in an Object, then saves the Object in the model, then dispatches a CreateSessionEvent. The CreateSessionCommand execute method is called, and it send the HTTPService passing the object from the model. (but then what if the model somehow doesn't get update and I send the same request twice?) I could try to get the form data from the command execute method itself.. how can I access them though, since it is a popUp (created with PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, LoginDialog),true))
I'd love to see an example flex+rail with restful xml application by the way, know of any?
