Does anyone know of a script that can redirect to a new page if the flash takes to long to load?I want to prevent users from watching the loading screen on a slow server day so I want it to redirect if the load is taking more than 10 secs.

What is the best way to time an http service to see how long it took from HTTPService.send() to HTTPService.result
I have a swf file with 545 kb. and i am loading this in a html page using div concept. but it takes nearly 10 seconds to load the swf file. i want to reduce the loading time to 4 to 5 seconds.
View 0 RepliesI'm trying to play a 10 minute long video (h264/mp4) which is 39MB in size, after I call stream.play(fileURL) it doesn't start playback until its loaded around 12-16MB of the file (many many seconds later), I finally get onMetaData at this point too. Why doesn't it begin playback right away, or at least w/in a couple seconds? What can cause this bloated lead in time?
View 2 RepliesI just created a basic flash file to play a video on my web page and it's taking several minutes to load before it starts playback. I'm using progressive downlaod and the file is in *.mov format and is 84MB in size. At first that seemed large to me for web play back, but I thought it could handle it since I thought the way progressive download works is that it would start playing the first frame right away and progressively play other frames as they download. However, this seems to be downloading the whole file first (or a major part of it) before starting any playback at all.
Is there some kind of setting I'm missing or is my understanding of the download incorrect and the file size is too large? Some vitals: I'm using Flash Pro CS5 - To create my flash file, I used the standard import video wizard and selected the a file that is "on my computer" and "load external video with playback component" and then, I selected one of the standard skins.- To deploy the vidoe on my webiste I have three files:
1) swf file containing the FLV component
2) the swf file related to skin
3) the actual video (84MB, mov file) - Web page includes/embeds reference to swf file
I have a problem when saving flash files in a mac. The process is much slower than in my other computer with windows, using the same file. I save my flash files very often and having to wait that long is very annoying. The problem can't be the file itself, I have tried saving different files and there is always more delay in mac compared to windows. In my mac I have OS X 10.7.2 (Lion) with Flash 5.5 and in my other pc, Windows XP SP3 with Flash CS 5. Has somebody experienced this before? What could be the origin? It's weird because my mac is new and is supposed to have better features than my windows pc which I bought many years ago I am a relatively new mac user and I have heard some people complaining about Lion OS X. What is your opinion?
View 1 RepliesFor some reason connecting to Flash Media Server 3.5 takes around 40 seconds. The server is running on Windows Server 2008 (64-bit edition) on a virtual server located in a reliable hosting center and I'm connecting to it over the internet. The server is using built-in Windows Firewall with all the inbound TCP ports required by Flash Media Server opened (80, 1935 and 1111).
If I disable the server's firewall the connection time drops to 20 seconds, but it's still pretty damn long time just for establishing connection. We probably have some company firewall at this end (the client side), but other streaming media services works just fine over this connection.
Why? Is there another app I can use to publish it?

I have an flv file of an interview and I want to have the user go to another site after watching the interview. Sort of like a getURL on the last keyframe, but when I imported the flv into flash, I only get one frame.
I am looking to find out and track how long a round-trip to the server is taking. Just kinda curious more than anything.

However for some reason in my code the call to Sound.play takes from 40ms to over 100ms in extreme cases, which is obviously more than enough to be very noticeable whenever a sound is played. This happens every time a sound is played, not just when that sound is first played, so I dont think its because the Sound object is still loading data or anything like that...
At the start I have this to load the sound:

This as far as I can tell is following the same process as other Flash programs I found, however none of them seem to have this problem. Is there something that I've missed that would cause the play() method to be so slow?
I'm having a brutal time with a FLA. The wait time to open this thing is ridiculous, and alot of the time the program will just become nonresponsive. Its only this one specific file, as others open fine. It also has nothing to do with the hardware on my system, as we've tried the file on a variety of machines.The FLA itself contains very little bitmap art, most is vector. It's about 16mbs, but publishes down to a SWF thats about 300kb. There were some complex vector elements which were removed in a fruitless attempt to get this thing to move faster. Trying to "save as.." results in flash writing to a file extremely slowly. The resulting file will progress in size from 2 - 4 mb with about 10 minutes wait time in between. Its becoming nearly impossible for us to work in the file. how I could debug Flash itself to find out whats going wrong on load/save?

My Flex application (SWF) initialization takes 25 second to load 1.6mb SWF in widescreen monitor. The same SWF loads pretty fast (3 Sec) in Flat panel monitor 1024x768 resolution. What is the reason for +/- in rendering speed , +/- in CPU utilization on different monitors , screen resolution.
note: my internet sepped is 10+ mbps broadband.
I know this is probably something that is discussed a lot but I cannot find the solution to meet my exact needs. I need to redirect website visitors to an HTML version of my website (or show HTML instead of Flash) when they do not have flash player installed. I need a simple, clean, quick solution because there are about 70,000 letters that went out to customers with the site on them and the client just asked for this behavior this morning, right when the mail is supposed to hit mailboxes today.

View 6 RepliesWhenever I launch the Flash application or try to save or load a file, I get the "beach ball" for 30-60 seconds, sometimes a bit longer.I have plenty of disk space, plenty of memory.I'm on a 8 core Mac Pro with 10GB of memory, so I don't get it. It should load instantaneously just like Photoshop and In Design do.

View 2 RepliesI have made an application in flash, which is more like a photo/video gallery, in it, an event(birthdays parties) can be selected and a scroller appears which contains the thumbnails of all the pictures of that event, and one video appears in another panel,basically one video per event(birthdays and parties) is supported.My problem is that pictures are around 50, and there size can be around 2 MB, sometimes it happens that whole flash CS3 hangs, it is too difficlt to use the application this way...near impossible..these pics are loaded dynamically through xml file and i have used loadMovieClip.loadClip() method to load pics to movieclips and loadMovieClip.onLoadInit() method to resize them to make thumbnail and the main picture in the gallery
View 12 RepliesI need a bit of help with an issue I am experiencing. I am trying to load external swfs on menu link clicks, inside my main movie. However, the external swfs are taking 8-10 secs gap in loading inside main swf.
The external swfs fetch data from a mysql database. My question is - Should I load the external swfs at the time of loading the main menu to override this problem? The concern here is that it might take longer for the main movie to load then.
I have never worked on flash - I used a developer to code a flash based webcam recorder that runs on red5 as backend. He provided me with the swf file and the source like mxml file.This recorder has 3 images and the total size of swf file is 800KB.Now when I load it on my production server - this page takes sometimes upto 10 secs to load. I'm completely lost as to what the reason is and not sure where to start debugging.I'm not sure if the problem is in the flash code or is it that red5 is taking a long time to establish the connection.
View 1 RepliesSome background info: I'm trying to create a website to upload my photography portfolio to; the URL is as such [URL] So what I have done is create a parent page and created a variable that functions as a loader. Whenever a button is clicked an external swf file is loaded into that variable. And within those external swf files are additional buttons that will load an image into another loader.
Here's my question; for those of you who've tried the site will realise the images are taking an eternity to load, everything I learn about actionscript tells me this should not be the case. Each of the photographs are between 100 - 300kb in file size and really should not take more than a few seconds. This leads me to conclude theres something wrong with my code.
The code itself is nothing special, in fact it is the absolute most newbie way of creating a function eventlistener for every button. This is the code for the parent page;

Here is where things got hectic for me for a while. I tried using the same type of code in the parent page for the external swf pages, for some reason it does not work, I had use the loader component (component's instance name is interfaceloader);

Once again to summarise my issues; why are 100 - 300kb images taking so long to load even on a ADSL connection and is my code part of that problem?
I just upgraded to Flash CS4 on my laptop. program that used to take 5 seconds now takes up to 2 minutes. I installed the 10.0.2 update, and searched the web for a solution. I am desperate because all of my programming is based on CS4. I know how to compile a swc and use FlashDevelop with the compiled graphics, but this isn't a solution for me. Whenever I need to make changes to the graphics I can't wait this long. I am using an HP dv5-1190. This meets the minimum requirements by far.
View 2 RepliesAll Flash is playing fine except now in IE7 +, when someone clicks on the Portfolio link, the preloader comes up but it doesn't advance to the 2nd frame with the content. However, if you click the Portfolio button again, it works fully. No issues on a Mac anywhere and no issues with Firefox in Windows. All content is in Flash and there are a couple of other movies that load as well but I've no idea where to start looking to fix this 'two-click' issue. It's set for Flash player 9 with AS2.0 and I used DWCS4 to insert. [URL]

Publish Settings are correct, but it's been 1 hour since i've Publish, still it shows "Publishing...". Any idea? [B]Does it really take such a long time to publish .ipa?[/B] My stage resolution is 1024 x 768, .FLA size is 1.63 MB and external JPGs, SWFs and an FLV files are 503 MB.

But it takes about 3-5 or even more seconds before it will leave the current page.
If I omit the '_self' the new window opens immediately and the page loads immediate...but only when I set it to _self I get a few seconds of a delay before it loads...I have no idea why but it is annoying.. I am wondering if anyone might have any idea why this is happening or anything I can do?
