Flex :: Develop A Softare For 3D Object Compression (by Polygon Reduction) In Flex Using Papervision 3D
Jun 11, 2010
I wish to develop a softare for 3D object compression (by polygon reduction) in flex using papervision 3D. Could you please suggest me an efficient algorithm for the same?
I'm trying to find a way to calculate the area of a polygon using lat long coordinates in a Flex 3 site. Hong007 on Google Maps for Flash group was cool enough to post the following function:
[Code]...
I was also playing around with the area calculator at [URL]. These functions produce slightly different results. I'm trying to figure out which one is more accurate. It seems that hong007's function produces results that are on average slightly larger than freemaptools' function. However, I don't know which one is more accurate.
I am trying to build a portfolio application similar to the used by Whitevoid. I am using Flex 4 and Papervision3D 2. I have everything working except for one issue. When I try to load an external SWF as a material on one of the planes, I can see any native Flex or Flash components in their correct positions, but the papervision objects are not being rendered properly. It looks like the viewport is not being set in the nested swf. I have posted my code for loading the swf below.
private function loadMovie(path:String=""):void { loader = new Loader(); request = new URLRequest(path);
[Code]....
Below I have posted two pictures. The first is a shot of the application running by itself. The second is the application as a MovieMaterial on a Plane. You can see how the button created as a spark object in the mxml stays in the correct position, but papervision sphere (which is rotating) is in the wrong location.
My company want to develop an online multitouch scrumboard for our scrumteams. We are still in doubt between flex and silverlight as platform for the application. (don't want to fire a hole new flex vs. silverlight discussion again) Installation rate & platform independence are not critical to us, because it's just for teammembers and only windows 7 enables multitouch events in flash or silverlight. We would like some pros/cons specifically for this project (multitouch, rich user interface, integration with backends).[code]
We have Flex applications that connect to our ASP.NET 3.5 Web Applications and usually download lot of data. Now considering XML as transport, for every item, it transmits meta data twice for example.. instead of transferring int value as <Customer CustomerID=23/> it transmits <Customer><CustomerID>23</CustomerID></Customer> .. now here is where bandwidth conservation becomes an issue.
FLEX Can not read GZip and DEFLATE compressed HTTP Response ( So cant use any of them )I heard of some WSCompression but it requires WSE 3.0 now I am skeptical to introduce too many dependency in my hosting environment which requires too much management and overheads. Is WSE 3.0 only dll library which requires no installation on production server? Does it require rewriting all WebService attribute? Or is it simple one time configuration and more or less, anyone knows does it work with Flex ? Flex dynamically generates web services, and we use lot of its auto generated code, now if we want to support compression then do we need to rewrite lot of code?
Simplest solution I can think of is, reduce unnecessary XML tags and reduce them down to attributes to save bandwidth. Is there an easy way to achieve it, our classes has more then 50-70 properties, I understand it will be nightmare to add attributes to each property but we dont know how to do it in case of SOAP.
I have been looking at posts about determining if a point lies within a polygon or not and the answers are either too vague, abstract, or complex for me. So I am going to try to ask my question specific to what I need to do.I have a set of points that describe a non-straight line (sometimes a closed polygon). I have a rectangular "view" region. I need to determine as efficiently as possible whether any of the line segments (or polygon borders) pass through the view region.
I can't simply test each point to see if it lies within the view region. It is possible for a segment to pass through the region without any point actually inside the region (ie the line is drawn across the region). Here is an example of what I want to determine (red means the function should return true for the set of points, blue means it should return false, example uses straight lines and rectangles because I am not an artist).
Another condition I want to be able to account for (though the method/function may be a separate one), is to determine not just whether a polygon's border passes through the rectangular region, but whether the region is entirely encompassed by the polygon. The nuance here is that in the situation first described above, if I am only concerned with drawing borders, the method should return false. But in the situation described here, if I need to fill the polygon region then I need the function to return true. I currently do not need to worry about testing "donut" shaped polygons
Here is an example illustrating the nuance (the red rectangle does not have a single vertex or border segment passing through the on-screen region, but it should still be considered on-screen):For the "does any line segment or polygon border pass through or lie on screen?" problem I know I can come up with a solution (albeit perhaps not an efficient one). Even though it is more verbose, the conditions are clear to me. But the second "is polygon region on screen?"PS I have a function for determining line intersection, but it seems like overkill to use it to compare each segment to each side of the on-screen region because the on-screen region is ALWAYS a plain [0, 0, width, height] rectangle.
Is it possible to develop flex/Air application as a service. The application doesn't require any GUI it should run as service in embedded Linux/Linux/Windows.
I need to compress video image data (lets say a display object) in AS3 to a Byte Array with high compression at runtime. Framerate only needs to be around 5 but 1024x768 video needs to go to < 40 Kilobyte per Second without the quality being too bad. I wrote a custom encoder and got it to around 80-100 Kilobyte per Second for 1024*768 which still is too much and I don't see a lot of improvements to be mad to my encoder.
Using JPG or PNG Encoder gives way higher KB/s. Is there any open source way to to decode and encode video in as3 at runtime ? E.g. a H.264 as3 encoder and decoder ? Or other codecs? Or maybe a C# source code of h.264 encoder and decoder ? I think I could port it to as3. Doesnt need to be h.264, just something with good quality when running at 5 Frames/Sec and 40 Kilobyte...
Ive been doing some research and I cant seem to find anything on writing to a file. My initial question was writing a array to a seperate file. But now I am looking for resources on how to write any data such as XML or a array to a file. What I want to do is create a game editor. I want to eventually save that data to a file to be opened later.
I am trying to develop a flex 3 application that would appear like a vertical/horizontal hierarchy. It will represent the flow of any application based on user selection.
Here black dots represent the nodes (description) that could be furthur divided into sub-nodes having their own description. White nodes represents the end-point of that expanded view branch. Each node represents some part of application,
I have a DAE model that is parsed into several parts. I am able to deal with them separately, such as changing their material or colour but I am having problems adding click or hover listeners over the children. For example, lets say I have a model of a kitty where each facial feature is a child. I want to be able to hover or click the features and have a window pop up explaining the feature. I've tried parsing the model and adding listeners but it doesn't seem to work.
Currently we are in the design phase of an application that will allow two users to communicate with each other using chat and video (with audio), the application is a web application that currently is a java web app with Spring and hibernate, but we want to incorporate video and chat between two users and we are evaluating the options to developing it, so far we have two choices, either develop a Flex UI that leverages its video and chatting capabilities through Red5 or something like that and communicates with the Spring app using BlazeDS or a completely java based approach using (maybe) JMF and/or applets to achieve the video and chat interaction. The question is, which would be the most scalable approach to develop such an application?, what would be the approach that is the least intrusive from the end user perspective?
Can we develop flex mobile project that runs in both android and iphone. Also I want to know , can we use all the device capabilities of both android and iphone in same project
I need to develop the HTTPS application using Flex and Java. But i have idea about remote objects or HTTPServices. which one is the best for developing HTTPS application.
I have a papervision camera of which turns using keyboard input, I have a radar of which I would like to orientate to direction when the camera turns.I have it all working apart from mapping my (camera) DisplayObject3D.rotationY to RadarInterface.rotation correctly. The camera (or any 3d object) works with values I'm finding hard:Clockwise: 0 to 89, 89 to 0, -0 to -89, -89 to -0 doing a complete 360.So if I were to turn 180 degrees I'd go from 0 to 90 and back down to 0 again.
How can i maintain DPI resolution calculation for various device and UI management for eg,iPhone having action bar at top/bottom , iPad app has control bar component instead. Is it possible to maintain application in SINGLE CODE BASE.
How do I get the 2D screen coordinates of a 3D object when using Papervision 2.0 (Great White)? I've read that following properties should return the screen coords but these always return 0.
anyone actually successfully implement 3D object instancing with papervision 3d?and does it actually perform good enough to be used to instancing many copies of a single model (tress for example)?so far I failed to correctly display the instances and I doubt the performance benefit of doing this as papervision 3d is using software render.
My question is regarding the use of RTMP files (delivered via a Flash Media Server) and Papervision; specifically using an RTMP stream as a texture on a Papervision object. I've already developed a number of successful methods for applying progressive flv/f4v files to Papervision objects. The RTMP streams, however, have presented a number of obstacles.
I will bypass the myriad of research I've done looking into this issue and say that others have inquired about this as well - but from what I can tell, no solid answer or solution has been found - especially under Flash Player 10. So, here's what we have so far:
1. A Flash Media Server running on a University server.
