Actionscript 3 :: 360 Rotation Degrees To 2d Object From 3d Papervision Object
Mar 11, 2010
I have a papervision camera of which turns using keyboard input, I have a radar of which I would like to orientate to direction when the camera turns.I have it all working apart from mapping my (camera) DisplayObject3D.rotationY to RadarInterface.rotation correctly.The camera (or any 3d object) works with values I'm finding hard:Clockwise: 0 to 89, 89 to 0, -0 to -89, -89 to -0 doing a complete 360.So if I were to turn 180 degrees I'd go from 0 to 90 and back down to 0 again.

Program A has a cannon that aims to line up with where-ever the mouse is pointing, in 360 degrees, and fires when the mouse is is clicked. Program B has an eye instead of a cannon that should in theory do similar functions when the capslock key is toggled, but instead only has a 90 degree range of motion from the Right of the eye toward the bottom (quadrant 4 only). Where did the ther 270 degrees of rotation disappear to?

I need to get a certain object to rotate by set degrees (my navigation for this project is organized on a wheel--6 sections on the wheel), and I would like to have buttons that tell this object to smoothly rotate by set degrees (intervals of 60 degrees in this case).
What I have in mind are 5 buttons that control the rotation:
1. 120 deg. ClockWise
2. 60 CW
3. 60 CCW
4. 120 CCW
5. 180 CCW

I am working on a car game in flash where you see the car from a top view and you go straight ahead all the time on an endless road.The game so far is built in the way that I have a image of a car that's the main car and the road is a image itself that keep switching with another image of the road and when you play it it looks like the car is moving very fast. But actually the car is not moving at all except for when you move it yourself by going right or left.When turning right I do not want the car to simply move to the right, but I also want it to rotate a bit so it looks more realistic when turning.So when you press the right key it rotates 5 degrees even if you keep holding it and when you release the button it rotates back quickly.The script I'm using:
onClipEvent(enterFrame) //This
{
if(Key.isDown(Key.LEFT))[code].....

rotating an object based on 90 degrees. For example, I only want the characters rotation values to be 0, 90, 180, or 270 based on the angle between the mouse and an object. I used to know a formula that worked right into the atan2 method, however sadly I had forgotten it

I need to rotate a drag and drop object 360 degrees. I've got the drag and drop working fine, but I could only figure out how to rotate it 4 times using the set property and arrow keys on the key board. Is there another action I can use to rotate it 8 times at 45 degree angles, or will I have to use the go to action and make 8 frames for the object? I would like to be able to rotate it by pressing just one key on the key board.

How do I get the 2D screen coordinates of a 3D object when using Papervision 2.0 (Great White)? I've read that following properties should return the screen coords but these always return 0.

anyone actually successfully implement 3D object instancing with papervision 3d?and does it actually perform good enough to be used to instancing many copies of a single model (tress for example)?so far I failed to correctly display the instances and I doubt the performance benefit of doing this as papervision 3d is using software render.

My question is regarding the use of RTMP files (delivered via a Flash Media Server) and Papervision; specifically using an RTMP stream as a texture on a Papervision object. I've already developed a number of successful methods for applying progressive flv/f4v files to Papervision objects. The RTMP streams, however, have presented a number of obstacles.
I will bypass the myriad of research I've done looking into this issue and say that others have inquired about this as well - but from what I can tell, no solid answer or solution has been found - especially under Flash Player 10. So, here's what we have so far:
1. A Flash Media Server running on a University server.
2. A Papervision project

I am rotating an object by incrementing in 90 degrees,however after 180degrees it rotates to -90...then it can't quite make it's mind up if it should go to -180, or 0, which should be the same thing? (except it messes up my if statements down the line)(by that I mean, sometimes it will go back to 0, and sometimes it will switch to -180??)Where is 270, and for that case, 360?

I'm new to Flash and I'm having trouble rotating my mc 360 degrees using the 3D Rotation Tool. I can rotate it 180 degrees, right side coming forward, but when I attempt to rotate it back to its original position, it doesn't continue the rotation in the same direction (right side coming forward). So instead of apearing to rotate completely, it looks like it rotates half way, stops, and rotates back (left side comes forwards). Probably an easy solution, but as I said, I'm new.

I've a movieclip representing an arrow (with registration point in its middle). When I click a button, the arrow must point to a certain movieclip on stage. I use this code to execute the Tween:
TweenLite.to(arrow_clip,1,{rotation:degrees});
But I can't understand how to calculate the degrees. I tried the following with no luck:
var degrees =Math.atan2((clip.y-arrow_clip.y),(clip.x-arrow_clip.x))*(180/Math.PI);
I found the following is working but I can't completely understand why:
var degrees = -(Math.atan2(arrow_clip.x-clip.x, arrow_clip.y-clip.y))*(180/Math.PI);

I have set up a motion tween using the flash tween class to rotate an image 180 degrees. However, if I should want to work wit hthe image from that point (say click the button again and have it rotate another 180 degrees back to its original position) I can't. It will simply run the tween again because my function specifies to go from 0 to 180. How I can use the tween class to rotate this image 180 degrees on each button click?
Code is below:
import fl.transitions.*;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.Tween;
rotation1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, rotateThePicture);
function rotateThePicture(event:MouseEvent) {
//IMG11_mc.rotation += 180;
var PicRotation:Tween= new Tween(IMG11_mc, "rotation", Strong.easeInOut, 0, 180, 5, true);
};

I need to know what the visible height of a display object will be after I change it's rotationX value. I have an application that allows users to lay out a floor in 3D space. I want the size of the floor to automatically stretch after a 3D rotation so that it always covers a certain area. EDIT: I guess what I am really trying to do is convert degrees to pixels.
On a 2D plane say 100 x 100 pixels, a -10 degree change on rotationX means that the plane has a gap at the top where it is no longer visible. I want to know how many pixels this gap will be so that I can stretch the plane. In Flex, the value for the display objects height property remains the same both before and after applying the rotation, which may in fact be a bug.
EDIT 2: There must be a general math formula to work this out rather than something Flash/Flex specific. When viewing an object in 3D space, if the object rotates backwards (top of object somersaults away from the viewer), what would the new visible height be based on degrees of rotation? This could be in pixels, metres, cubits or whatever.

I have an object, the center of the object I believe is the rotation point. When I click transform and edit the rotation properties on the right side to like 55 degrees then it works, it rotates from the point it's suppose to and looks great. The problem is when I use AS .rotation on the object, I have no idea where it's rotating from and it's going all over the freaking place. I assumed it would rotate from the same rotation point as the transform tool rotates the object from. I also assumed 0-360 was the options for rotation. What am I doing wrong? from the looks of it's odd rotation I can't even tell where it's centering.

I'm at the moment trying to recreate a menu system that I found on URL... as you can see, the menu you get after you've choosen a language is a 3d menu rotating so its always looking at the cursor, but as you will notice, the motion has a little bit of easing to it, which I'm currently trying to recreate using the cube you make with the "Papervision3D 2.0 Interactive Cube" from GotoAndLearn();URL...and here is the code behind that drives the rotation:URL...Now, my problem is that I'm having a hard time figuring out how to create a tween effect on his, resulting in a bit out of sync rotation that slowly stops instead of just following my pointer in an instant.

A longtime AS2 developer finally making the transition to AS3 and Papervision all in one big leap.Working from Lee Brimelow's awesome pv2 tutorial as a base I've been able to create a plane with a movieclip mapped to it. What I'd ideally like to do is limit the rotation of the plane to maximum of -45 to 45 degrees on the X and Y.[code]I've tried using basic conditionals to restrict p.rotationX and p.rotationY but they seem to be ignored.

I need to move between (rotated) object in flex along x, y, or z as an independent observer. The movement relative to x, y works ok, but when I go along the z axis, the observer behaves as it was apart of the xyz system of the objects and doesn't go straightforward to the object but in diagonal for example. Here is some tryout code

I am completely new to AS and have been having a rough couple of days trying to figure this one out.
I'm having struggle creating a xy rotation - or an image "tilt" - on mouseover / mouse position on a movie clip (600 x 300). When the mouseover position is at the top left corner it should be rotated e.g. x = -50 and y = -50 (or "away from the mouse") and subsequently rotated x = 50 and y = 50 (still "away from the mouse") when the mouseover position is at the bottom right position.

check out the attached file. Don't ask me why, but I need that yellow rectangle to follow that grey dot, which rotates around randomly... but see, if you place the dot to the center left of the grey rectangle, you see that the yellow rectangle screws up. I've deducted that this happens for this reason: to the left of the grey rectangle, the rotation value is 178... 179... 180... then it jumps to -180... -179... -178... (you can try this out using an onEnterFrame function and tracing the rotation of an object that follows the mouse).
Since the yellow rectangle follows the grey dot with an ease, it doesn't just do: rectangle._rotation = dot._rotation But instead: rectangle._rotation += Math.round((dot._rotation-this._rotation)/rotatespeed) Some of you guys should already be familiar with this kind of movement, but it's usually used to move objects smoothly. The bug here is that whenever that dot randomly jumps up into -180 from it's original position at below 180, it screws up the yellow rectangle.

I'm trying to get a movieclip to constantly rotate either left or right. At first I set this._rotation=-1 Then I was thinking of using
if (this._rotation==1) {
this._rotation = -1;
But this only makes the object rotate 1 degree and then stop. How do I make it constantly rotate?
