rotating an object based on 90 degrees. For example, I only want the characters rotation values to be 0, 90, 180, or 270 based on the angle between the mouse and an object. I used to know a formula that worked right into the atan2 method, however sadly I had forgotten it

I need to get a certain object to rotate by set degrees (my navigation for this project is organized on a wheel--6 sections on the wheel), and I would like to have buttons that tell this object to smoothly rotate by set degrees (intervals of 60 degrees in this case).

I'm new to Flash and I'm having trouble rotating my mc 360 degrees using the 3D Rotation Tool. I can rotate it 180 degrees, right side coming forward, but when I attempt to rotate it back to its original position, it doesn't continue the rotation in the same direction (right side coming forward). So instead of apearing to rotate completely, it looks like it rotates half way, stops, and rotates back (left side comes forwards). Probably an easy solution, but as I said, I'm new.

when I rotate my avatar. So while "this.rotation = 270" rotates it the correct amount, it registers as being rotated by -90 degrees. Thus, if you type "if(this.rotation == 270)" it won't ever be used.

My character movement has been working all day, now I changed the rotation because I added eyes to my character. Soo... Apparently rotating my character by 270 degrees and then hittesting my LevelArray doesn't bounce him back the way it should, and does, if the rotation is at 90 degrees.

Again, the other movements work, and the left movement works too, only when hitting the wall from the left it stops. Hitting the wall from all other sides is fine.

I have a papervision camera of which turns using keyboard input, I have a radar of which I would like to orientate to direction when the camera turns.I have it all working apart from mapping my (camera) DisplayObject3D.rotationY to RadarInterface.rotation correctly.The camera (or any 3d object) works with values I'm finding hard:Clockwise: 0 to 89, 89 to 0, -0 to -89, -89 to -0 doing a complete 360.So if I were to turn 180 degrees I'd go from 0 to 90 and back down to 0 again.

I am working on a car game in flash where you see the car from a top view and you go straight ahead all the time on an endless road.The game so far is built in the way that I have a image of a car that's the main car and the road is a image itself that keep switching with another image of the road and when you play it it looks like the car is moving very fast. But actually the car is not moving at all except for when you move it yourself by going right or left.When turning right I do not want the car to simply move to the right, but I also want it to rotate a bit so it looks more realistic when turning.So when you press the right key it rotates 5 degrees even if you keep holding it and when you release the button it rotates back quickly.The script I'm using:

I've got the drag and drop working fine, but I could only figure out how to rotate it 4 times using the set property and arrow keys on the key board. Is there another action I can use to rotate it 8 times at 45 degree angles, or will I have to use the go to action and make 8 frames for the object? I would like to be able to rotate it by pressing just one key on the key board.

I'm looking to create a rotating set of images, simulated to look 3D... that can rotate either left or right, reactive to someones mouse location.

The path of the images would look like a flat oval, and as the images came to the forefront, they would be at full scale, have the lowest position (high _y), have the highest depth (appear in front of everything else) and be dead center _x.

As they slide left or right, they would reduce everything by a relative 50% to the final shift (scale, _y, and depth) until they got to the end, moving in an upward arc following the oval path. When they got to the end, and kept rotating beyond (move in the opposite _x. but appear to follow the flow of the arc), continuing to decrease in scale, _y, and depth.

currently i have a function in which my object fish will move to a food i am having trouble getting it to rotate nicely to the food currently my function is as below.if the food is above the fish my fish rotation is 0 which is facing up, if the food is below my fish i will give it a rotation of 180 which will make it face down , however the rotation is too sudden it does not give a nice and realistic effect of rotating to the food.how can i make it when rotating to move some distance and at the same time rotate? because it cant rotate to the food in the same spot as it would not be realistic.

I am working with this function that moves an object around a center point in a perfect circle and am trying to modify it to move it in an oval shape that is 1/2 as high as it is wide?

Basically, I have a set speed
var myVelocity:Number = 0.25;
Then I calculate my Sine and Cosine based on the speed
var myCos:Number = Math.cos(myVelocity);
var mySin:Number = Math.sin(myVelocity);

Then I figure the distance of the the object from a fixed center points along each axis and
var x1:Number = myBall.x - centerX;
var y1:Number = myBall.y - centerY;
var x2:Number = myCos * x1 - mySin * y1;
var y2:Number = myCos * y1 + mySin * x1;
myBall.x = centerX + x2;
myBall.y = centerY + y2;

I have another function that figures x and y based upon myBall.x = centerX + cos(angle) * radius; that is easy enough to modify the radius to become an ellipse, but is there an easy way to mod the one above to become an ellipse? I want to do this to be more efficient with the code and reduce the number of math function calls

Im using the drawing API to draw lines between movie clips, join the dots style, but is there a way to draw an arrow in the centre of the line indicating which direction its going? I know it will involve trig i think and i guess it will be something like (1 find the mid point of the line (2 find the direction by checking the start point and end point (3 draw a triangle somehow that goes in the right spot. I'm trying to label an animated pie chart, and I've been having a great deal of trouble getting rotated objects to line up with trigonometrically-positioned objects. So, for example, if I have a pie piece that's middle is angle theta and has been rotated n degrees in a tween, and then I try to position a label with code like this:

label.x = center.x + Math.cos((theta + n)/180 * Math.PI) * radius;
label.y = center.y + Math.sin((theta + n)/180 * Math.PI) * radius;

the label is often not aligned with the center of the pie slice. Since I am also zooming in to the pie chart a great deal, the error becomes significant enough that it occasionally causes the label to miss the pie slice altogether. The error seems relatively unpredictable, and it looks a great deal like a rounding error, but I don't see any obvious rounding going on (the trig functions evaluate to ten or so decimal places, which should be more than enough here).

How can I get these labels to position correctly?

I am working in AS2 and I have a flash project that is almost complete but I would like 1 thing modified.I have a fish image following my mouse.

The problem is that I would like the fish image to "turn" and face the direction of the mouse. Currently, as is, the fish follows the mouse fine when the mouse is moving to the right, but when it goes to the left the fish swims backwards rather than turns and swims the correct way following the mouse to the left.How would I modify the script to get the fish to turn and always swim forward when going left and right?
