Flex :: Get A File Explorer/Navigator To Work In Adobe AIR Applications?
May 6, 2010
I realize this is probably a simple question but my google-fu is failing me. I would like to get a windows explorer like file browser to popup when I click a button to select images to upload to my AIR application.However I cannot find a component that handles File exploring. Does anyone know what to use?
I am looking for utility/helper classes for Adobe AIR/actionscript 3.0 file system and native process utilization. Could someone point me to opensource library projects specific to Adobe AIR..
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the new Package Explorer window in Flash Builder emulate Flex Builders 'Flex navigator' window?
Bottom line is I don't always need to peer into SWC's, and I don't like having a 'default package' automatically created for me. Not sure why the interface wasn't made simpler, allowing access to more power and complexity only if necessary. I want to focus on the code, not on how to navigate and use the bells and whistles in the coding environment.
I have a flex application mxml file with 3 tabs.the first tab having the link button to select the value in the 3rd tab. Suppose, i have a link button in first atab. And the 3rd tab contains the combobox with values:"basic", "advanced". by default the vaule is displaying "default". When i select the linkbutton on the first tab, the "advanced"should be displayed in the comboBox on the 3rd tab. and the problem is , when click on the first tab link button , at that time the 3rd tab is not initialized. So it is not displaying the "advanced" in the comboBox. selecting the 2nd time on the link button it is displaying fine. But not first time. code: thirdTab.comboBoxId.selectedItem.data = 1;
I cannot afford the Creative Suite or Flex Builder but I would like to develop a commercial Flex/ActionScript AIR application. Is this a viable goal and are there robust tools out there that don't cost a small fortune?
I have a requirement to print a bill from the AIR application.
Following are the constraints.
I need to print to a DotMatrix Printer. I have a complex layout with header, footer and a datagrid with data rolling out to more that one page. I need to have a template to which I will be passing my object.The suffice with the usage of Jasper reports, but I have no server side support.I tried the FlexReport, bentbit and other tools which is optimized for the DotMatrix printers.
Is there a alternative to get the above requirements done. Is there any alternative similar to that of jasper reports without going for a server.
It seems that AIR doesn't come packaged with the powerful FTS module for Sqlite (its a hot requested feature)
What are the some other alternatives I can use? I want to be able to do simple boolean and phrase queries. Support for stemming would be great but not required. I am targeting the mobile platforms.
So far I've thought of three options:
Write a simple inverted index and a scorer Do search on server side (last resort b/c it messes up offline capability) Somehow install FTS module with AIR. First indication from googling is that its not feasible (looks like loading of modules is disabled in air)
I'm going to write an application with the Air/Flex-Framework. I'm looking for Best Practise and general Design Patterns for designing software especially in Air/Flex. I have experience with this framework but never had the pleasure to write a piece of software from scratch.
For instance: I stumbled across lots of software written in Air/Flex with nearly infinity global vars Most of the software I saw was not object-oriented How can I pack the asynchronous method calls nicely?
I'm familiar with general design patterns by gamma. I'm looking more for advise in designing good quality software with Adobe Air/Flex.
Most of the desktop application development I do is in Swing, and I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on using JavaFX and/or Adobe Flex for building desktop applications. Have you had success building desktop apps with these? Or would you stick with Swing for now and use tools to help make Swing development more productive?
How can I get my Adobe Flex applications to seamlessly integrate with HTML pages? That is, I want Flex to: Not take up the entire page (make it any size page element I want). Talk back to the JavaScript on the page (further linking the Flash application with the HTML page).
How does working with SQLite databases work in Flex 4.5.1 for Mobile applications,I'm looking to create a general class that I can reuse. For now I only want it to handle queries and return results or fault events.Also, I am unsure if I should be using Synchronous or Asynchronous connections for mobile devices.
I'd like my users to be able to easily navigate their files, which live on my server. Is there an obvious / built in way to build the front end for this in Flex? My ideal scenario would be to have something that looks like the local file browser - but I'm pretty sure that's not an option (although I'd love to be wrong)
i have a flex file upload application over https it works fine on all IE browsers. Recently a client with IE9 reported a complaint that she's not able to upload files. can see the error generated is IO Error #2038. The adobe documentation says 2038 is File I/O Error.This error occurs when an application can't get file size, creation date or modification data using the FileReference API.
All i can think of is browser issues like, browser cache, some new configuration in IE9 am unaware of or permission on the client directory.
how to put AdMob ads / any-other-ad into Android applications developed in Flash for Adobe AIR ? I repeat , ads into Adobe AIR apps , not java! Or any other way to monetize the app?
For some reason trace does not work on when I put trace into my ActionScript files. I use the Flex SDK to build Adobe Air applications. I am currently on Flex SDK 4.5.1 and Adobe Air 2.7.I have checked that idl is not running, can't find a trace of it ( pun not intended ).I have also added mm.cgf to ~/Library/Application Support/Macromedia, that hasn't worked either.
I designed a flash site with Flash CS4 and Actionscript 3.0.
I am using this simple preloader, basically I learned from a tutorial:
stop(); //PreloaderloaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, updatePreloader); function updatePreloader(evtObj:ProgressEvent):void{//container for the progress of the site (download)var percent:Number = Math.floor((evtObj.bytesLoaded*100)/evtObj.bytesTotal);preloader_txt.text = percent+"%";if (percent==100){ nextFrame(); }}
make it refresh properly in explorer 8, as it works well once, but if you refresh, it stops working, and stays on 0%.
I have a preloader with the following code stop(); this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PRO GRESS, onProgress); this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onComplete); function onProgress(erogressEvent):void { var loaded:Number = e.target.bytesLoaded; [Code] ..... It works great with Firefox and Safari on a mac but when viewing in internet explorer on a pc, the loader does not work at all.
I'm new to flex. Now I'm writing an flex application. I plan to split my application into some MXML files(Application as the root tag). How can I switch from one mxml to another?BTW, what is the best practice for design large flex application? Just one MXML Application and many MXML component or many MXML Application?
I have an AIR application i'm trying to release with flexbuilder. Launching application has no problem ... bin-debug dir is correctly filled with my files. But when i want to create the AIR file (export release fuild), AIR files content view is empty and bin-debug directory is never filled.
