Flex :: Layout Out A Component Differently Depending On The Amount Of Space Available?
Jul 8, 2010
I am trying to build a sort of button bar in Flex - something like the horizontally laid-out bookmark bar you'd see in most modern web browsers, where when you run out of horizontal space, you can click on the arrows button(>>) to get a drop-down to see the rest of the items which did not fit into the horizontal space. Problem is, how can I know how much horizontal space is available for me to tell how many buttons to render into the button bar? This need doesn't appear to be support by the general layout manager framework.
Im trying to create a layout in flex using mxml, the layout contains a Canvas component and a Box. The layout should always be such that the Box sits at the bottom edge of the application and has a fixed height, whereas the Canvas fills the remaining stage area and does not overlap with the Box. My MXML is as follows;
I've run into a strange error and I was wondering if anyone had experience with this.I'm working on a flash platforming game and I recently released a demo. I was having a problem with the getting the file to play correctly when I noticed an error:The file plays differently depending on where the file is saved. For example:Platform Explorer (http://jrjellybeans.net/platformExplorer.swf).This file runs fine. Platform Explorer (http://jrjellybeans.net/flashGames/platformExplorer.swf).This file opens up the level editor. Yet, I make no call to the level editor anywhere in this particular file. The thing is that the files are EXACTLY the same. Just saved in different locations.
I have a randomly-sized array of items. I'd like to display one label for each item in a Repeater component. I want them to display in a grid layout with 5 columns and as many rows as needed. How do I do that in Flex / ActionScript?
I have a fairly straightforward Flex layout question. Is there anyway to get FormItem's contained within a nested container to follow the alignment of the FormItem's in in the parent form container?
In following code, I have one large component, and I'd like only the level4 panel to be scrollable, but instead, the whole application become scrollable.
Is there a good place that has an overview of how Flex layout stuff is managed? I'm trying to create some user-resizeable "windows" in Flex, but I'm having some trouble getting the layout calculations for the contents correct. Right now I'm just trying to get a good understanding of how Flex calculates its layouts, but I haven't found any good overview documentation. For instance, looking just at the width value there are the following:
[Code]....
and the same set for height. What's the meaning of each of these? How is each used? Is there any way using those to calculate some preferred size of a component (like getPreferredSize() in java)?
If you use FMS 3.5 as a DVR to record the live streams, whether it can determine that the hard disk has 100 megabytes? It is necessary that I live streams redirected to another server.
Can anyone point me to a good Actionscript 3 class that handles "masonry" style layouts ala the ted.com homepage? Short of finished code, can anyone describe / summarize an efficient algorithm that handles this effect? Searches turn up arcane articles about kd-trees and other such stuff that's way over my head.
The jQuery Masonry plugin looks great, but I tried reverse engineering it without much success.
I realized that if I do addChild, I can't really see the dynamically added component, since flex did not reserve space for my List to display. So I do parentDocument.addChild, and then it appears no problem. My question is since it's being added in the parentDocument, so it is suppose to be a component belong to parentDocument, so is that component still be able to call this handleMouseDown? From my experience, it's still able to, but which doesn't make sense to me. Can someone explain a little about why it can still work, or any better approach other than parentDocument.addChild
I am using the following itemrenderer in one of the column of my datagrid. However I want to format each row of the datagrid differently. The column consists of numbers but some need to be formatted as Numbers while others as currency etc. Also note that I have an additional column which consists of 0 and 1 where 0 means that it should be formatted as Number and 1 means that it should be formatted as Currency.
I'm having fun with dates in flex, and had a strange bug showing up. It turned out to be not-really-a-bug, but a somewhat strange way of the way Flex works with dates. Namely,
[CODE]....
What's up with that? Is there some good reason not all fields are treated the same way? I kinda guess there is, but was unable to find the 'why' part.
i have done a project, in which, i have loaded set of check boxes in to a empty movie clip and i load that movie clip in to Scroll Pane component. all are working fine, but while scrolling, in the bottom of the scroll pane i got so much of extra empty space. How can i corrrect this.
Changing HUE_MAX slider in app (binded to MAX_RANGE parameter of filter), it doesn't filter out HUE values smoothly, but instead thresholds at HUE_MAX=59.9, where at lower values looks like no filter is applyed, and at HUE_MAX=299.9 where between 60 and 299.9 looks like this: [URL]
I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar. I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. You can see it at: URL...[code]I encoded the video at a high rate so that it would download slowly. It may not playback smoothly, which I am not concerned about. What I am concerned about is the numbers below the video what are derived from ns.bytesLoaded and ns.time. If you watch it for a bit, the amount played should exceed the amount loaded.
I double checked the video duration and the bytestotal that flash is reporting and they are correct. I don't know of any way to check the accuracy of bytesloaded. If your internet connection is super fast, you may not see the issue - it only occurs when it is playing back faster than it is downloading - if this is the case, you may need to throttle your speed down, or start downloading a large file while you are watching this demo in order to see the issue. But this is a serious issue and means that building custom video interfaces with loadbars and playheads is impossible!
how to make the preloader works on the full screen website/ fluid layout. I add the Stage.resize on the code for FYI When I added this code to the bar, it expanded to full screen, but there's no loading bar. The text is also no progress.
I have a component "child" which has a cancel button. Now this component is placed in a state called "newChildComp" I also have another component called "parent". In the parent component, i have a button that dispatches an event. Here is the event code:
[Code].....
so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?
I have an actionscript function which is supposed to launch a panel and then fill in Networktopology data inside it.As, network data is too large that it consumes much time and makes browser hang!Even I tried to display busy cursor which also stopped spinning when data was being processed. How can I ensure processing large amount of data does not hang the browser.
I have a spark skinnable component which contains a datagroup with images. The datagroup is scrolled by hovering the mouse over it. Everything works fine except one thing: after I change the datagroup provider, I need to scroll down automatically. The problem is the images are not loaded immediately after I set the provider so (contentHeight - height) does not yet represent the actual maximum scrolling position. Is there an easy way of telling the datagroup to scroll down as its content loads? Because the workaround seems to be not so straightforward. This is the code for scrolling(thumbnailStrip is my datagroup):
I'm learning layouts in Flex. I try to make the following layout. The red arrow means when enlarge the window, the red arrow widget will become large too. Can anyone implement this layout in Flex?
I need to develop a GUI for a self-service kiosk. The kiosk will take food orders (i.e pizza, burgers, salads) and provide the ability to pay using a credit card. Can anyone suggest the best GUI layout or approach? I want to make it intuitive and simple. I want to minimize the number of button clicks. If you can provide examples,
My flex application gets some parameters from URL when the application opens for the first time(ex: layout=<1,2,3,4> ). Based on layout(1,2,3,4) value I have to change the layout. However the problem is the application is already drawn(Layout is initialized) by the time the control reaches the point where it reads the values from the URL. I was wondering how can I redraw once I read the values from URL. Some thing like refresh.
I was modifying the layout of a Flex application in Flex Builder. What I didn't realize was that the changes I made, were made for a particular state. There are around 6-7 states in my application. Now, I need those changes to be made to all of those states. How do I do it? As of now there are multiple lines like this in one state :
