I want to load a MSML component from another MSML component in Flex. To be more specific, I have a Login MSML component that loads from my main Application file and a Overview MSML component. When a user clicks on some button from that Login component it should redirect to the load Overview MSML component in place of Login component.

so, basically,i am checking to see if the cancel button component in the Child component, while i am still in the parent Compoent, was clicked, if it was clicked, call the cancelButtonHandler. The problem is by the time the addNewChild handles the event, that cancel button was still null. My question is how do i solve this without using the itemCreationPolicy on the cancel button?
I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.
UPDATE: *There will be not any object over another.
*I will not use hitTest on bitmaps because all bitmaps are wrapped in another component,as they,for now are itemrenderers.

I have two components. One is called "InsideComp" and one is called "OutsideComp". OutsideComp has InsideComp as one piece of its component, and in my main MXML file, I have embedded an instance of OutsideComp. How do I access a public variable of InsideComp within my main MXML file?In Actionscript, I could just do something like:OutsideComp.InsideComp.valToChange = 5; But I dont know how to do it in MXML. As some Internet tutorial suggested I've built a simple server-client application for FLV Video Player using PHP and Flex. The problem I encountered is that I can't change the source of the video in the mxml file using Notepad++. The source could be changed if I run Flex but It's not a good idea because I want to run different videos through this player.how to run different videos with this Flex Video Player component because my application works only for this given in the source of FlexPlayer.mxml-maybe I shouldn't use this mxml file for the different Video Sources?

I've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
A Flex components values are initlized by init methord. In an application flow, How to refresh a mxml component data value ; as init is callled at the start up it self only.
eg. of mxml componet may be as simple as button label or text as complex as repeater whose data provider is a web service ( means a fresh quesy should be made to pull the data and refresh the dataprovider of repeater )
I was wondering if there was a way to get the sound from a FLVPlayback component and manipulate it with using a custom volume slider? Within my Actionscript I currently have this code which enables me to control the volume of a MP3:

Is it possible to get the component's single lable without having all the labels of the component appearing? Like, I'm trying to include the label into a text's .text the code I'm using now is MoVName.text=MoV.labels; but it gave me all the labels that were included in that particular component.
View 12 RepliesI'm building this game, and it was working fine, until I used the menuBar component. It's not code related, 'cause i've commented out the script that does things with the menuBar. If I drag the MenuBar component from the component window, onto my Stage , the game refuses to work. If I deleet it (but keep it IN my library), it still doesn't work!. But if I turn the export settings of the MenuBar off, it works! The classes that i'm using for my game are called Node.as, JawBreaker.as The class I want to use to do something with the menuBar is called GameMenu.as (but that doesn't matter, since I commented the calling of that class out).

I will have a lot of different data entry / data view screens so I thought I would create many different components to deal with each different type of data that was being returned. I have a MXML application called Layout, and have component called "Navigator" which controls the menu, as well as a ViewStack called "MainContent".
I want the Navigator component to change the ViewStack on the Layout application to that of another Component (each Component is embedded within the Canvas of each ViewStack). I have a click handler on my Navigator which looks like this: Layout.ContentFrame.selectedChild=event.itemRenderer.data.clickValue; However it shows the error "Access of possibly undefined property ContentFrame through a reference with a static type Class." Is my approach a good way of doing it? I have attempted referencing it using FlexGlobals.Layout and topLevelApplication.Layout... neither of which work?[URL]

View 5 RepliesI had a question Yesterday, and posted in the Flash 8 Section of this forum...well, I have a question now...When I open a Window Component(with a movie clip inside it ...ofcourse) via Popup Manager from the Menu Component, the Window opens up, but I can't go back to the menu and open it. All I want to do is have a scrollPane component on the stage and within that component I would like to have a movieclip that is essentially a list, and each list item is a button to be clicked on. I have no problem doing this if I have buttons within a movieclip, but having them in a scrollPane produces the following error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property mcButtons through a reference with static type fl.containers:ScrollPane.It seems that I am unable to use the scrollPane component as if it were a movieclip and to use dot syntax to access it's content.
I have an array of videos coming from an XML doc. I am getting the name of my video in the trace statement okay, but am not sure how to go about loading the FLV video into the player.I have an FLVPlayback component on the interface named "video". The video I'm going to load will be ("videos/" + videoArray[0]))
View 3 RepliesI have my main file which is built in AS3 and I am loading some older AS2 files. These AS2 files have some video in it and use the FLVPlayback Component.
When I click my button to load the AS2 swf, they load fine and the video plays.
When I hit my back button, I do a simple removeChild on my swfLoader object (Loader).
When I go to open a different AS2 movie with video, the video does not work, however, if I restart the movie and click that AS2 movie first the video plays fine.
I've searched a little and in tutorials the progressbar always loads an external mc...I was wondering, is it possible to make the bar load the main movie?

In the first one, the general idea is what i am looking for. Except that i want to load a movieclip and not an image. My problem in this one is the button component that is used. I have no clue how to skin or customize the button, and i cant find a good tutorial to help me so i figured it might be easier to just change the actionscript for this. I want to be able to create my own button (instance button) and use that so that when people release that button, the movie clip pops up![url]...
TextArea component does not load after publishing as AIR .I have a TextArea component in the library. Its Class is: fl.controls.TextArea I add it to the stage using the addChild method. Running it inside the flash CS4 the textArea component gets added to the stage as intended. But after publishing, the textArea component doesn't get loaded. What may be the problem? The stage is blank without any textarea.
