Flex :: Passing Values To Function Using Alert Window?

I have a function that checks for something when the user clicks a button. if that something is found, an alert comes up saying that it has been found and asks them if they would like to allow this to happen, or undo the action that caused the something to be found. the code looks like this:
Alert.show(thisString1, "Conflict: Multiple Projects", 3, this, conflictAnswer);
upon pressing "Yes" or "No", the conflictAnswer function will be called... it looks like this:
private function conflictAnswer(event:CloseEvent):void[code]....
but it didn't work.
EDIt: After reading the first respond, i've come up with this:
answers[0] = cPositions[i][0];
answers[1] = cPositions[i][1];[code]..........

I am trying to style the Alert window on an external file but I get the following warning and the style won't be applied, keep in mind that the Alert is being called from an external AS file as well so the code is not embedded in the MXML.

I am Working on set up of gmail web service and I am trying to pass parameters from a function after it connects to be sent in a email. It connects just fine but wont pass the peramiters it treats them as functions.
var ws:WebService = new WebService();
ws.addEventListener(Event.CONNECT, connected);
ws.connect("[URL]");
ws.cacheResults = true;

I get this Error:
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "myPassword" to Function.
Why it is trying to convert my parameters into a function.

I have a series values I'm passing (from an FLA) into the constructor of a class. I just want to make clear in my mind that, the only way to pass the variable params, to the function nowDoThis, you'll need a dispatchEvent or a custom event to send it along ?
As an example:

I am having an issue where I show an AlertBox message when the user hits ENTER and the focus is in a text area. The pop up works fine, but when the user hits enter the Alert closes as expected, but the TextArea listener receives the ENTER event from the Alert and pops the dialog up again. I have tried a number of ways to catch and eat the event but so far I have not been lucky. Is there way to accomplish this?

I have a flex compiled swf module inside my flex program I just need to pass it some values like I do it when I use chat.swf?username=john : that works !
I tried it with flex swfLoader and Image
SWFLoader source="../bin-debug/chat.swf?username=john"
Image source="../bin-debug/chat.swf?username=john"
This does not work: these values are not passed !

However when implementing the form into another page my alert window appears on unwanted places.

Adobe AIR provides Alert.show(). However this seems to fail if there is no top level window like in the typical tray example ("Example: Creating an application with no windows"):

I failed to make Alert.show() work in this situation. Seems that there is no alert() either.Is there any way to show an alert prompt (modal or nonmodal) in such a situation without reinventing the wheel?Example AIR tray application skeleton:

I'm trying to make a popup alert modal window thing with an external class. I have a simple swf set up with just some random sample text, a rectangle, and a button. What I want to happen is for the "alert" class to initialize upon startup of the swf and then when I click the button (instance: btn), the alert will show up. If I get rid of all AS in the swf and set alert as the document class, it shows up just fine, so I think it should be working, but for some reason I get this instead when I try the button function:

In C you can pass a reference to a data item as a parameter to a function. then within the function you can write to that address thus passing back a value to the caller. Can you do anything similar in AS3?
I know you can use the return statement but I want to return a status by that mechanism plus a value in a parameter.

My web application pass a javascript object to flex application using addCallback function.
when the flex application is in modal dialog in safari browser, the object in the flex application is null and when I open the flex application just in a new window, the object is passed correctly. But, I need the showmodaldialog to show the flex application.

I'm using the Alert.show in a function and I want to get the user answer from there. So how can I achieve this. The problem is the function that call Alert.show will return a true or false value depend the user answer.but It seem that in Alert.show it only allow to pass in a CloseHandler for this. that is a new function. and since that I can get the user answer from where it is call to return the user answer.

I have committed to doing something that I thought would be really easy, but I can't get it to work.I want to be able to call an HTML page containing a Flash movie and have that Flash movie pick up a value from the URL of the page in which it sits.So, I want to create a link to the HTML page such as: then want the Flash movie on mypage.html to read in the value John and put it into the movie variable myname.I can see how to do it using pre-coded parameters as part of the HTML that loads the SWF, but I want the value to be determined by the calling link, not predetermined within the HTML on the movie page.I also don't want to have to create a dynamic HTML page for my movie if I can avoid it.

I am using AS2 and passing some values from flash to php, flash files is on page file1.php values are passing fine, it pass values when user click button. When button is pressed

When it pass the values, it refresh the page and Flash File is also refreshed and Flash file start from frame 1 and all the values on flash becomes default in other words when user click "file1.php" is submitted, so the page is refreshed What is the solution, that after passing values the page remains or flash remains as it is (not refresh the contents).
