Flex :: Retrieve Information From Sql Database

I use flex and php to retrieve information from my sql database. What i have been doing is formatting the result from the database query into xml and then putting the result into an arraycollection. It all works fine except one of my database fields contains a lot of text that website users enter and as xml doesn't like tags like <> so I leave it un formatted but I would like to format it. Would I be better using flashvars or text than xml? Or is there another way?

I am trying to retrieve some information back from my LMS and into variables in Flash with AS3. I used to be able to do this without any problems in AS2, but can't seem to find a way to make this work in AS3. In AS2, publishing with the "Flash with SCORM 1.2 Tracking" option, I could call a line like the following:
fscommand("LMSGetValue", "cmi.core.student_name,_root.stuname");
This would grab the student name from the LMS and store it in Flash in the variable named stuname.
Any way to do this with AS3? I can set values back to the LMS no problem still through fscommand such as score or completion, I just can't get anything back from the LMS such as student name or lesson location.

I am currently using the latest verion of Adobe Flash Builder to create a Mobile Application. For the application one feature is to allow the users to bookmark content an this is done by storing the id of the object to be Bookmarked into an SQLite db on the device. This part has been done successfully and they are stored fine.
Now what I want to do is to pull back the bookmarked id's from the database and pass them to a WebService call which needs to be made to an External Database. When I retrieve the Bookmark id's from the local database they are contained within object, I now need to find a way to take the id's from the database objects in the ArrayCollection and store them in a new array that will be passed to the WebService, as the webservice is expecting an Array of Int's and not Objects. Below is the code I created to see if the object items are within the array list of objects:

I'm building a Flash website with database information with php>mysql>xml>Flash mx 2004. I'm having some major problems!I need to retrieve information of different tables in mysql, and was worried about performance issues.The first query gets the whole model list...The second query will be performed after a model is clicked. Something like: select * from modelinfo where modelID=modelIDinFlash.
The third query is what I have a lot of trouble with! This has to run on the same time or immediatly after the second query. It reads the picture urls and id's from that particular model. I need the filenames for the picture viewer.But everytime I try this third query, the site becomes very slow and have problems displaying the model info.NOW I have a temporary solution: in the first table I have a field which states how much pics each model has, and this number Flash uses to build the nr buttons. But this is not a very solution since I want to keep everything dynamic. I also want to build a drag and drop function... something like a shopping cart. For that to work, every picture must have an unique ID.

how to retrieve information about size (in pixels) of loaded FLV file? Video object returns 2 pairs of parameters (width,height) which are useless because returns always parameters passed in constructor of Video() object. Another pair is (videoWidth,videoHeight) which is always (0,0). I gave up...
I need this information to scale proportionally video clip to size of area designed to display this video.

I have a problem with a flashpage I am developing. It sends a request to a database through a php-file and retrieve a text that I place in a textfield. The problem is that the swedish and other specialcharacters is shown in code format looking like this u00e4 . I know both my php-file and database is correct because I have used the same request with the same php-file and database in a android app and it works perfect.

Let me see if I can explain this clearly. What I am trying to do is pull information from a seperate file into Flash to be used as variables. I have read several places that Flash cannot pull info from Excel, so that is problem number 1: How can I store the information in a spreadsheet-like file so that Flash can access it. Then I would like the program to use combo boxes to access that information. Say I am going to draw a shape, the first box would choose the shape (ie Square, Circle, Rectangle, ect); this would then determine what would be in the next box.
So if my squares could only be red, purple, or green and my circles could only be blue, pink, or orange and my rectangles could only be black, white, or yellow. If I choose rectangle in the first box, I need the second box to list the three colors available for that shape.

If I have a loop to get information back from the database in PHP, like for example:

I know that I can send a string back to AS2 and read it but I'm not sure how to work with arrays, do I have to save everything to an array and pass the array to AS2 and then have a function in AS2 to output all the elements of the array to the dynamic text box?

I am trying to retrieve data from database through php scripts and display in flash using actionscript 3. For actionscript 3, I have 2 functions:

I've been looking around the internet now and haven?t been able to find anything referencing my problem so I thought I'm looking to create a series of adverts for our website. I say adverts, there more like a ?what?s on? synopsis of our website on a area specific homepage. We have 22 area homepages that need to display certain adverts.
What I?d like to be able to do is setup an admin system for my boss to use so he can control via the admin system the adverts to be displayed on each area homepage. I?ve seen that you can import database information via text fields on the movie itself but I?d like to be able to set the movies up so they pull the relevant information into the action script (basically referencing which file name to load and in what order.

I want to create a slideshow banner that will showcase our products. The slideshow will contain the image of the product, the name, the price, the item code and the link when someone clicks on it. Each week we update the best sellers and it can be from 5 to 15 different products. Similar to what we have now in our website www.deiequipment.com which now is static, we want to animate it and rotate the products like a slideshow.The problem we are encountering is that we have to manually update the slideshow content.
We would like to know if there is a way through scripting or catalyst to connect to a database and simply update all these fields automatically. So for example if the database has 5 items, automatically will pre-fill each field listed above and the slideshow will have 5 products.
If we update the database now with 10 products, to update automatically. That way we can create 1 slide show, the time it takes to rotate to the next product, and add simple button controls to the slide show for next and back that will simply go through the loaded items.I tried to do a research on how to do it online but some takes me to scripting, others to catalyst dabases, but none are specific to what I need.As a note, the image will just be an image holder that will be updated with the image field in the database that points to the URL location of the image.

Got a client that says that Flash ( a panel that is pulling information from a database and simply displaying it in text field.) is not working in IE7. I told them that this is impossible as Flash is completely crossbrowser compatible. Am I missing something?? Is it a possibility?

I need to create a login page in my flash site that relates to information input to a mysql database. after the submit their information we want to send them a link to a differnt flash page with a login screen they will use their first name and a password (already in our database) to gain access to this "new" page. on that page there will be a welcome message that says "Welcome, User First Name" so I guess i have two questions
1: how do i set up a login page?
2: how do i pull that login info to a welcome page?

Using FDT, when I have a debug configuration with several operations in the launcher chain and the final launcher opens in Flash Player, how can I retrieve the build output from the console once the build is complete and Flash player is running?
It seems that once Flash Player has started the console clears to make way for the application's trace output, but I need to be able to look back over the events and build times for each item in my launch chain while Flash Player is running. Is there a setting I can enable to either log my build output to a file or to preserve it in the console?
Edit: I know I can still read the info when building normally, this question is specifically for building with the debugger.

I want to create a Flex 3 application running in Adobe Air that accesses an SQLite database and I need to keep this database in sync with an SQL server 2005 database running a website.Is this something that Flex supports or is it going to be a custom script? Also, has anybody done anything like this?
Edit: The synchronisation can be done on a daily basis rather than real time. The data will be read only from a front end perspective with a CMS to do updates on the website.

I have researched this issue all over and most people say use the .refresh() method to update a datagrid after updating or adding a new record. This does not do anything. So, my issue is this. I have a mySQL database hosted I am connecting via PHP, I have 1 mxml file and 2 php files (I know I can use just 1 but I am learning and this was easier for me to use for troubleshooting). The issue is no matter what I change on the datagrid the update does not show on the datagrid unless I close out of IE and reopen it. I can refresh or open the page in another window and the update does not show. I have to exit entirely and restart in order for any updates or additions to show.Here is my licenseTracker.mxml

I have updated the mxml code to only show the needed code for the program to run the update.
I am new to Flex and have an issue I hope you all can help me out with.

I am planning on using Flash Builder 4/Flex to write an AIR application which is primarily based around recording, storing and analyzing data.I'll be creating charts etc that need to update in almost real time.It's essential to me that the application be able to function without an internet connection so I need a local database of some variety,but I would also eventually like to build in online synchronization of the data where either database can be update each other based on newer information. Moreover, some type of encryption would definitely be welcome, and speed is a large concern
Synchronization: Primarily updates/additions/deletions will be done on the offline database, but ideally I want to have a web interface that will allow the same updates/additions/deletions and will be synced (beyond that I'm not sure exactly how to do it as I can model that based on what is most achievable).I'm wondering if there's any prebuilt engine that could handle the synchronization of 2 databases. I may end up having the web interface only be for additions, which would be significantly easier to sync.. and I may start that way, but i want to build with technologies that will best allow me to implement full online crud at some point.

Here is the issue: a client wants his entire equipment inventory accessible by persons navigating to his jquery mobile site. The inventory that exists on the desktop site was, as I understood, built with Flex. Is it possible to access this database for the jquery mobile site? I believe it is. I have a wordpress based site that stores information about an image in a database field called "background" in a table called "wp_postmeta".The 'loader' gets an url such as "/thisImage/background.swf"The "background.swf" should somehow display "background.jpg" instead but since I've changed the field name in the database (from background to temp_background) it doesn't work.I pass variables to the "loader" swf and they are correct based on the new field name but it still isn't working.I need to know if there is anything in the .fla's (and therefore the .swfs) that is pointing to somewhere in the database hard-coded. Basically I need someone to look at them and tell me how they are working.
