I need to execute some javascript string code from flash swf file using actionscript 3.
I read that it could be done by passing the javascript code to the parent html document , using externalinterface.call function. Then I assume it will be faster if I can declare functions in the javascript code in the HTML document in the first use of externalinterface.call funtion ; if flash code calls the javascript code repeatedly. So let me ask you how to do that. For details , any javascript to be loaded is unknown in design time and I can not prepare a javascript file to be loaded.

We're currently building a Flex application using the PureMVC framework with a shell.swf which loads/unloads modules dynamically. We're experiencing issues with memory and we're looking to replace the shell.swf with a JavaScript-based loader.Two questions:What would be a good framework to dynamically load the Flex components and allow the modules to communicate between each other?Would dynamically loading/unloading the modules via JavaScript take care of the typical memory problems associated with Flex/Flash applications?

I want to make div into my intex.htm file (already built site) to place in a .swf file that will cover the whole screen, and a few seconds later the animated page will disapear and the htm page will appear. I don't want to make different htm file, neither put a button on flash(ie on click...). I just want after a few seconds and after the flash has ended, the flash will go away and the page will appear.

I was reading about Flex- JavaScript communication via ExternalInterface.But I had a doubt, it said that the javascript code should be written in the HTML file of the application ? Now which is this HTML file ? Is it the index.template.html file per project or the HTML file created per MXML application ?

I am working to add a transparent flash video to a site of a person walking out. The problem is that I don't want the video to play every time the home page is loaded, so I set a 24hr cookie that if detected the div containing the video is set to hide. This works perfectly in Google Chrome and FF, the problem is in IE the div is apparently hidden because you cannot see the video but the audio of the video is still heard. Perhaps there is a different way to do this then the way I am going about it and maybe even a way to do a remove instead of hide?[code]...

I have some problems removing javascript iFrame from my flash file.I have one index.html (where iFrame is generated) and one index.swf file.In my index.swf file, I have 14 buttons (14 different frame labels). On 4 of those buttons I have a function calling my javascript iframe from index.html file. But, when I go on a frame that don't have that function for calling javascript, that previously called and displayed iframe is still visible.Another problem I have is that on some of those 14 'pages' I have around 10 more buttons on center of stage - that are not clickable because of that javascript iframe.

I am going to be setting up a control that can hide and show a flash video.I want to either stop it when its hidden, or remove it entirely. I've been able to do both, but which is better for the user.Hide and stop means its already loaded. But the flash object is still there, so I worry about it eating up processing power.Removing it entirely means no, its not there, but adding it again appears to send out a call to re-download the file.

I am pulling data from an xml file which has HTML tags in it. I need the HTML tags for the on-screen display, but I am also using printJob to print what's on the screen. The problem I'm having is that when I run printjob it prints all the HTML too. Is there a way to remove the HTML tags? Maybe some sort of script? I'm thinking I could search for the beginning "<" and the end ">" and remove them and what's in between, but I'm not really sure how to go about this.

I don't know if stackoverflow is the correct place for this question. If not, feel free to move it in the correct site.[URL]. my client wants to convert them to something so the text will be in the html code.
I thought to use two gif files. When the user hover the specific div then the second gif replace the first and gives the effect. The text will be positioned with css. I am not sure if this a proper way to do it, or there is a better way.

I'd like to remove the font tags from the htmlText string produced by a TextField leaving the surrounding nodes and any bold etc tags within intact.
Example partial output of htmlText:
<P ALIGN="LEFT"><FONT FACE="ChampagneLimo" SIZE="18" COLOR="#000000" LETTERSPACING="0" KERNING="0">Lorem Ipsum</FONT></P>
My plan was to avoid trying anything with regex and create an XML object.
However if I create a new XML object containing a root node and then attempt to appendChild the htmlText string so that I have a valid XML object to manipulate I run into a problem with html entities, see example below:
<html><P ALIGN="LEFT"><FONT FACE="...
How can the font tags be stripped from htmlText and how can I create a valid XML object from the htmlText string? My plan was to use the XML replace() method

AdobeTV showed a way to allow Flash to "talk" to an HTML page via javascript using the ExternalInterface method. There seems to be a catch. You need to use the ID of the swf in the parameters to have it all fit together and you can only put the ID="swf" into the IE section of the Dreamweaver generated javascript or into the non-IE section. Putting it in both didn't work and the author mentioned only putting in one of them specifically.Is there a way to do this that would work in both sets of generated Javascript?

I am having in issue with IE passing a string back into an swf using the EternalInterface class in Flash CS4.I have an swf with the following code: var externalString:String = ExternalInterface.call("IncomingJS")which is inside an event listener attached to an Event.ENTERFRAME and an if statement waiting for ExternalInterface.available. [code]I am able to successfully get the externalString variable and procceed with the rest of the AS3 script in Firefox, Safari and Chrome, but not in IE.If I add in an alert (stringFromHTML) before the return statement in the Javascript, I get the value of the stringFromHTML spammed, which looks like Flash is firing the function at the right rate[code]Unfortunately, the HTML code is actually working within a 3rd party HTML generator, and one of it's limitations is that I can only have a single line (with unlimited length) of html at a time.Are the other options (swfObject etc) able to run either with no line breaks in the code, or would I be asking for trouble with Javascript and the SWF to, instead of embedding the SWF directly, use something like an iFrame and refer to a 'proper' flash delpoyment html file?

So my team's project has an swf embedded in JavaScript, we're actually using java servlet's to create the html/JavaScript. I am attempting to use as3's ExternalInterface to add a callback which would get called in the javascript but everything I have tried will not work.[code]so if there is a missing tag or something that's probably not my problem. NOTE I embed this correctly and get into the swf allowing it to call javascript functions(as3 calls the getStuff fn), using the ExternalInterface, which works but JS->as3 does NOT work ='I cant use the movie object for anything (the return value of getFlashMovie), if I try to use no code after works.The action script code calls the external interface addCallback function correctly(called in a try catch that's how I know)[code]The only things I can think of;
1) The embed code isnt creating the object correctly, since I cant use the movie for anything
2) my swf is being created weird and doesnt allow script access.We are using FlashBuilder to build the swf.

My client wants a silly intro page where, onClick, doors to a warehouse open into the warehouse itself (redirect into the website). I created a 1920 x 1174 SWF that does just so. It can be seen here. As you will notice, the backdrop of the warehouse and sky are included in the SWF. Just a minor question: is there a better way to do that? One thought was to crop the sky out of the SWF and make the animation smaller so it could be centered with CSS on the intro page. Then make the background-image the sky.
My big problem is the resizing. My (possibly ignorant) assumption is that if I make the SWF really large, it can be scaled down for different resolutions and the aspect ratio kept. I have tried both of the suggestions at www aleosoft com/flashtutorial_autofit.html and they wildly distort my SWF (which can be seen here). Is this because of my publishing settings?

The communicate between javascript and flex, but only if you are using an external HTML file in a browser, and not in a windowed app.

I have the most weirdest problem with Flash Player and FlashDevelop (to be honest, dont know which one causes it), so let me explain. I have recently downloaded FlashDevelop and created an AS3 Project. When I compile the project, the files are generated in the bin folder. Now, when I navigate to the bin folder and open the index.html in Firefox and IE9, everything works fine. However, when I copy the bin folder somewhere else and then try to do the same, i can see the flash movie in Firefox but not IE9.

I'm using a flash rotating banner in my website which takes images and descriptions from an XML file.
I do changes to my XML very often... but in my local machine, the banner takes a day or two to get updated.
Although I can clear my local machine's cache, the problem still remains for other users who visit my web page..
is there a programmatic way in flash or in html to overcome this problem ? Maybe a server configuration?
PS: below code works fine, but it clears out the cache completely... i need to clear XMl cache after a specific time period..
var timestamp:Date = new Date();
xmlData.load("/flash/images.xml?cachebuster=" + timestamp.getTime());
